Bill Nye the Science Guy

The famous scientist and TV host of “Bill Nye the Science Guy” speaks at 7 p.m. as part of the Lamplighter School’s Dolores Evans Speaker Series. For decades, Nye has cultivated in kids a love for science and a more scientifically literate society. Reserve a spot at the event online.

The holidays are over and many loved ones surely received e-readers. The library has a wealth of e-books available to check out for free. The Jan. 10 class covers how to access library materials on your Nook, and the Jan. 24 class talks about the same topics for Kindle owners. ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’

This operatic interpretation of the classic children’s tale begins at 2 p.m. The library partners with the Dallas Opera to present the community performance.

Junior symphony ball

Juniors and seniors from participating high schools host the 55th annual event from 7:30-11:30 p.m. to raise funds for the Cecil and Ida Green Youth Concert Series. Students can dress up and take part in casino games, dancing, prizes and refreshments. Participating schools include Hillcrest High School, the Hockaday School, the Jesuit College Preparatory School, St. Marks School of Texas, Ursuline Academy and others.

‘The Story of the Nativity’

See the nativity story through Michael Dudash’s oil paintings. The exhibit is open during the museum’s business hours, found online. Dudash’s art and illustration career includes his design of Clint Eastwood movie posters and more than 1,800 original paintings.
