Just in time for spring, North Haven Gardens 2 celebrates herbs April 2-3. The garden’s Spring Herb Weekend includes a wide variety of herbs on sale, and experts Heritage Herb Company and Herb Society of America will be on hand for customers’ questions. The list of free weekend festivities includes an herb salad dressing contest, with gift card prizes from both North Haven Gardens and Snappy Salads ranging from $25 to $100; lectures from Herb Society of America members Beth DiGoia and Mary Nell Jackson; and a visit from the Texas Worm Ranch. The garden center also will celebrate Earth Day April 22 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with a free program, Bountiful Backyard Gardens. The program educates customers about reducing their impact on the environment by growing vegetables at home, raising backyard chickens and composting. 214.363.5316, nhg.com, 7700 Northaven.
Rosebud’s Restaurant Giftique and Bakery 3 recently unveiled pie bites, mini versions of its popular pies. A few of the flavors are coconut meringue, pecan, banana meringue, apple crumb and chocolate icebox. The bites are $1.25 each or $14.95 to $16.95 for a dozen. Keep an eye out for the bakery’s chocolate coconut pie egg — it’s a chocolate shell with coconut pie filling, with a thin layer of whipped topping and chocolate on top. Turtletique 4 recently held its grand opening after undergoing a massive remodel in its Inwood Village location. Owner Anne Marie Daniel says almost everything in the store has been upgraded — all new fixtures, hardwood floors, a new space for shoes, plus a coffee bar in the morning and an evening wine bar so customers can sip as they shop. On April 2, the store will host a makeup artist representing cosmetics line Jane Iredale to conduct makeovers from noon-3 p.m. Daniel says he has come to the shop before and the response was overwhelming, so the store invited him back. It will also host a jeans event April 8-9 benefitting Genesis Women’s Shelter. Customers are encouraged to bring gently used jeans in exchange for 25 percent off a new pair of jeans in the store. Also on Turtletique’s calendar are two trunk shows: the Starfire Jewelry show April 21-22 and the Laurel fall 2011 show April 28-29. 214.355.9393, turtletique.com, 5550 W. Lovers.
