Neighbor

Annette Leslie knows how pediatric cancer can take a toll, and she’s made it her mission to help others. Her son Carson was 17 in 2009 when he told her after three years of treatment, “Mama, make sure someone studies those tumors in my brain because if those tumors can help some kid someday not die from cancer like I am, I’d like that.” Never underestimate the power of a Preston Hollow mom when it comes to her children. Annette Leslie started the Carson Leslie Foundation, which has resulted in more than $3.2 million in funding for pediatric cancer prevention and research. Recently, the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation announced the donation of a grant and an in-kind donation.

Ursuline rocker

Left: Juliette DiGiuseppe, Ursuline class of 2000 and the musical artist known as Layke, teamed up with Snoop Dogg and recorded a cover of the Marshmello and Bastille hit, “Happier.” Proceeds from the collaborative tune will go to snoopyfl.net and childhelp.org.

Rafi rocks

Rafi Gogan has never listened to Led Zeppelin. She didn’t attend a Queen concert. And she’s not sure about Snoop Dogg’s notorious habit. Nonetheless, the talented North Dallas 9-year-old is creating a buzz –and an overflow of orders – with her pastel whimsical caricatures of music legends. Urged by her mother, Amy, to paint John Lennon just for fun, Rafi now has a backlog of commissions. Rafi currently has more than 30 orders for her $20 paintings. You can commission a painting from her by emailing amygogan@yahoo.com.

• Williams Hoover, Christ the King

• James Reilly, Christ the King
