Making a rainbow statement

Northaven United Methodist Church showed its support of same-sex marriage and gay clergy by covering the words “United Methodist” on its Preston Road sign with a rainbow flag. A photo posted by the church on Facebook had the following caption: “A church that legislates exclusion and homophobia is a church that has left us.”

Maxine Bennett still gets up early every morning, eats breakfast and goes to work. And that’s what she plans to do for the next year. Once she turns 100, Bennett says she’ll have her first cigarette in years — as long as it’s a Lucky Strike.

• A suspect was caught on camera spray painting “Illegal Ugly” on the side of 4010 Hockaday Drive on Feb. 23. The house has been spray painted two previous times. In December 2018, “Greed” was written on the house.

• An empty wallet was stolen from a vehicle March 4 in the 4100 block of Northaven Road while the victim was unloading furniture. T he thief discarded the wallet on Cox Lane.
