Weather and the Seasons
They say in Nova Scotia, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute and it will change.” Hot summers, crisp falls, cold (but often beautiful) winters, and fresh springs.
Here are some things to help you prepare for each of the seasons in Pictou County:

Be prepared for Summer 14 °C to 25 °C (57 °F to 77 °F) Our summers can be very hot – that’s why we love our beaches so much Light clothing, shorts, sandals and sun protection (hat, sunglasses and sunscreen)
Head to your favourite beach, splash pad or pool High UV rates even when it’s cloudy – wear your sunscreen or cover up Fall 5 °C to 20 °C (41 °F to 68 °F) Cozy up with a walk and enjoy the fall colours
Light boots, pants and jeans, sweaters and light jackets for layers, or a vest.
Hike on our trails and enjoy
the beautiful fall colours Flash freezing or black ice can happen in fall – check the weather before venturing out Winter −9 °C to 0 °C (16 °F to 32 °F) Enjoy outdoor sports and the beautiful snow cover
Warm coat and boots, sweaters and layers, warm socks and hats, mittens or gloves and scarves Skiing, sledding, snowshoe, skating (indoor or one of our many outdoor rinks) and snowmobiling Snowstorms – make sure you always keep a scraper or snow brush in your car, and have your winter tires on Spring From 1 °C to 17 °C (34 °F to 63 °F) We get excited when things thaw, and we see signs of new growth Waterproof jacket and shoes, light sweaters and coats

Flooding can happen in some areas – be especially mindful when out exploring and snow is melting
