LOCAL ECO WARRIOR INSPIRED ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Destination Gold Coast’s International Women’s Day luncheon was held on the 8th March 2023 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and featured a rare opportunity to hear from some of the nation’s most inspirational leaders. The panel discussion included 2022 Queensland Tourism Awards Young Achiever and Custodian of Lady Elliot Island, Amy Gash.

“I am honoured to be a panellist for the International Women’s Day Luncheon, representing Gold Coast women in the tourism industry and the opportunities presented to the younger generation within this field.” stated Amy Gash have been the lease holders/Custodians of the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort since 2005, during this time she has worked in the tourism industry for the majority of her working career and has become extremely passionate about the island, aviation, the reef and sustainability. Working on Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort allows her to combine her passion for travel and the environment/ conservation.

AMY WAS HONOURED WITH THE YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE TOURISM INDUSTRY AT THE QUEENSLAND TOURISM AWARDS IN 2022.

Destination Gold Coast’s Head of Stakeholders and Strategy, Rachel Hancock stated, “Women make up around 80 per cent of our tourism workforce and that’s why it is so important we come together as an industry to recognise and celebrate the incredible contributions of women in tourism and other key industries. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome a host of amazing speakers including a local sustainability warrior, powerful female CEOs and a disability advocate for this unmissable event.”

It can be said that Amy Gash began her career in tourism from the moment she took her first breath. Born into a family dedicated to tourism, Amy was surrounded by the beauty of the Southern Great Barrier Reef from a young age. Raised on the Gold Coast, Amy fondly remembers attending past International Women’s Day events throughout her studies and career. Her family

Amy was honoured with the Young Achiever Award for outstanding contribution to the Tourism Industry at the Queensland Tourism Awards in 2022. This is a fantastic achievement and showcases the dedication and commitment shown by the Gash family to tourism in the region. Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort was also honoured at the event by winning the Hall of Fame for the Steve Irwin Award for Eco Tourism.
