Adwick Primary Year 4 Spring Newsletter Class 9 – Fantastic Foxes Miss Wells and Mrs Horn

Class 10 – Learning Lions Mr Filby, Mrs Prescott and Mrs Davidson Topics Our Topics for the Spring term are Ancient Greece in the first half term and Robots in the second half term. In the first half term we will be learning about life in Modern Greece in Culture Week and then life in Ancient Greece. We will explore stories and characters from Ancient Greece and will use artefacts loaned from Doncaster Museum to help bring the topic to life. In the second half term children will be exploring the world of robots, examining remote control toys and discovering how robots affect our everyday lives.

Parent Workshop We would like to invite parents to participate in a workshop on Wednesday 12th February from 1pm to 3pm. The workshop will involve making a Greek urn or pot from clay. More details will be sent out nearer the date

Reading Please encourage your child to read their school reading book at home. Use their reading record to record when they have read at home. Children in Year 4 are being encouraged to change their own reading books when they have finished them so keeping the reading record up to date helps your child with this responsibility.

Reading Challenge The Adwick Primary Reading Challenge will be running again this term so please look out for when it starts. Get into the habit of recording reading in the reading record now! Golden Rules Children are rewarded with Golden Time (45 minute clubs run on a Friday afternoon) for keeping the Golden rules. Children also bring home a Good Behaviour ticket on a Friday to show that they have kept the Golden Rules all week so look out for these. The Golden Rules are: We are gentle, We work hard, We listen, We are honest, We look after property, We are kind and helpful.

Literacy and Numeracy for Spring Literacy: Children will be learning the skills for writing stories with historical settings and plays. In the later part of the Spring term the children will learn about stories with imaginary worlds and explanation texts. Numeracy: Children will be learning a range of skills from the Numeracy Framework. They will be developing the skills of counting, partitioning and calculating; securing number facts, relationships and understanding shape; handling data and measures.

Jumpers, Water bottles, P.E. and morning fruit Could you please make sure that children’s names are written in their jumpers (if you don’t have a suitable pen for labelling ask a member of staff). All children need to bring a water bottle to school which they can refill during the day. Every child learns better with good nutrition. After a healthy breakfast your child would benefit from a mid-morning snack. Please send your child with some fruit that they can enjoy at morning break.

P.E. Year 4 have P.E. on a TUESDAY. Please send your child with their correct P.E. kit. Kit should be a plain, white, round neck T-shirt, black shorts and trainers or P.E. pumps. If children have pierced ears that have been in longer than 6 weeks they must be removed on P.E. days. This is in accordance with safety guidelines for P.E. Newly pierced ears can be covered with micropore tape. Please provide this for your child to put on.

Homework Please continue to encourage your child to return their homework. Children will on occasion be asked to carry out research linked to the topics they are studying. Please remember that reading is a vital part of homework so try to put aside 10 minutes each day to read with your child. Reading for pleasure at a young age has a significant impact on success in later life!

Morning Learning You are still welcome to accompany your child into class in a morning where they use their time before register to do a morning learning activity or to improve a piece of learning they have already undertaken.
