Mr Dukes and Mr Potter would like to welcome everyone back this Autumn. We’ve had three weeks to settle in and the children are starting to show some really good efforts in their work and around the school. We have been focusing the children on keeping high expectations in terms of their presentation and behaviour. We’d like to thank you for supporting this message, as it is important that these high expectations extend to when they are outside the classroom. This is an important year for your children. We will be looking to make a lot of progress over the year, which will stand them in a great position for their SATs next year. Between 8.30 and 8.40 is our morning work time and you’re more than welcome to come in and offer your children support with their tasks.

Maths Literacy Literacy lessons will be planned from the objectives set out in the Primary Framework. We will be linking our Literacy with our Tudor theme. Units covered will include; stories set in historical settings, information texts and play scripts. We thank you in advance for supporting your child with homework and in listening to  them read every night.

Numeracy lessons will be planned from the objectives set out in the Primary Framework. Units covered will be; place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, data handling, measures and shape and space. We thank you in advance for supporting your child with homework and supporting them in learning their multiplication and division facts.

Topic This half term, our theme of study is called ‘Talking of Tudors’. We are going to be looking at the history of the Tudors and how they have impacted upon modern society. We will also be covering the various monarchs, crimes and punishments, Guy Fawkes, Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries and William Shakespeare. We will be looking to link our Literacy work with our Tudor theme. We will be writing stories set in the Tudor period, producing an information text about life in Tudor times and writing our own play script, inspired by William Shakespeare. Towards the end of the half term we will be inviting parents to come and join our Tudor banquet. We will be baking, using old Tudor recipes. Towards the end of our topic we will be visiting Gainsborough Hall to experience some Tudor aspects of life.

In circle time this term we will be using our SEAL programme to learn about new beginnings and friendships. We will also be discussing the importance of high expectations and following our golden rules.

Water and Fruit Break We encourage children to bring a water bottle into school. They can keep it in their classroom during the day. Please ensure they are only filled with water. Also, we encourage children to bring in fruit or a healthy snack for playtime. After all, it is a long morning and they do get hungry!
