Meet Kimber, Boyd’s Best Bud
When NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Spencer Boyd was 3 years old, his parents adopted a yellow Lab named Shammy.
When Shammy passed away, the family waited less than two years to adopt another yellow Lab, Kimber, who is now 11 years old.
Although Boyd, 25, moved out a few years ago, he still lives just down the road from his parents’ house, which is rather convenient when considering his strong affinity for the 80-pound canine he still refers to as “my dog.”
“It’s funny: I tell my mom all the time, ‘I’m swinging by. I miss my dog,’” Boyd said. “So, I stop by and just play fetch, hang out and watch TV with the dog.”
Kimber, who bears what Boyd calls a “spooky” resemblance to Shammy, doesn’t ever get to go to the race track with Boyd, but she’s still with him in another sort of way.
“My parents obviously watch all the truck races, and they have my scanner going. My dog sits on the couch and listens to the scanner with my dad the whole race,” Boyd said. “That’s kind of cool. She can tell when I’m talking on the radio.”
