KALAGHODA HERITAGE PRECINCT REVITALISATION OF PAVEMENT STRETCH Between Jehangir Art Gallery and Prince of Whales Museum

A physical make-over of the Kala Ghoda precinct to demonstrate an existing proposal which was at a stalemate for 2 years. Indian Architect & Builder and the Kalaghoda Committee under the patronage of UTI Bank (Now Axis Bank) realised this project. The portion under make-over was the pavement stretch between the Jehangir Art Gallery and the Prince of Wales Museum. Street furniture as per the municipal regulations were implemented on this stretch.

The refurbishment took into account the pavement which was completely degraded and abused by not just pedestrian but also vehicular traffic. There were no railings or signages to warn or monitor these functions. There was also an absence of street furniture.

The revitalisation scheme too into account laying of concrete interlocking paver blocks, erecting railings along the pavement, providing seating and signage at regular intervals around the place as per the master plan initiated by Kala Ghoda Association. The plan was in the offing and in need of revenue for implementation. Indian Architect & Builder worked as a catalyst in obtaining this when UTI Bank stepped in to support and help realise the project.
