CALL FOR PAPERS SPECIAL ISSUE O N THE AFFO RDABLE CARE ACT GUEST EDITOR: EILEEN BURGIN, UNIVERSITY OF VERM ONT
As the battle over the Affordable Care Act (ACA) continues in its post-‐enactment phase, Politics and the Life Sciences (PLS) will devote a special issue in the Fall 2015 to analyses of the law. Upon passage in 2010, the ACA was hailed as the most sweeping social welfare measure since Social Security was established in 1935; however, as unfolding events continue to point out, a legislative triumph is only part of any battle for reform. Some provisions of the ACA are in the process of being “locked in,” whereas other provisions face obstacles and may even be unraveling. Given the ACA’s ongoing struggle towards implementation, as well as the law’s sweeping nature and its relevance for both politics and the life sciences, research on the ACA merits dedicated attention.
PLS welcomes manuscripts addressing any topic related to the Affordable Care Act. Manuscripts must consist of systematic investigation but may analyze the ACA from policy, ethical, or social scientific perspectives. All methodological approaches are welcome. However, papers must be rigorously researched, well reasoned, fully referenced, and clearly written. To qualify for review, submitted manuscripts should offer new knowledge or new understanding of existing knowledge beyond the author’s personal opinion or point of view.
Contributors to the special issue should aim to submit research manuscripts that are approximately 30 pages in length, but we will consider manuscripts that are 20-‐40 pages in length. Shorter viewpoints, opinion pieces, or letters to the editor will not be considered. Initial submission may use any recognized citation style but final accepted papers must conform to the journal’s formatting conventions (see http://politicsandthelifesciences.org/InfoContrib.html). SUBM ISSION
To be considered for the special issue, manuscripts must be submitted by Friday, October 17, 2014.
Manuscripts will undergo anonymous review by at least two subject matter experts. Submissions should include a separate title page with author names, institutional affiliations, and contact information. Clues to authorship should be avoided in the manuscript. Submissions should include a 200-‐word abstract and set of key words as page 1. Submitted papers must not have been published elsewhere, either in whole or in part. Likewise, simultaneous submissions will not be considered.
Please submit manuscripts, preferably in Word or pdf format, by email attachment to Guest Editor Eileen Burgin (Eileen.Burgin@uvm.edu) by the submission deadline.
