he Macael Awards were created in 1985 with the aim of recognizing professionals who have excelled especially in the fields of architecture, crafts and design at national and international level, and individuals, institutions and media that have performed singular activities for the benefit of the Marble Sector and the Region. Throughout these 30 years,
the Macael Awards have consolidate as the most important event of the Natural Stone Sector at national level, emphasizing as an act of high prestige and, evidenced by the bases of participation. MACAEL AWARDS 2017 XXXI edition First level Awardees in the big night of the Marble Industry in Andalusia, endorse a year of great challenges overcome
T
he Macael Awards returns, the great night of the Marble Industry in Andalusia. "A XXXI edition that demonstrates the robustness and strength of our companies to face, one more year, the great challenges". This is how Antonio Sánchez, president of the Association of the Marble Industry in Andalusia, organizer of the event, began his speech at the gala held last night on November 17, in Macael (Almería). The president, also, took the opportunity to convey to the awardees the congratulations from their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, who, as they had requested and "for agenda items, have not been able to attend the event, as was their initial desire".

This new edition, has had first-level awardees. All of them represent "a clear example of the ability to collaborate, to give new ideas, other points of view that provide different visions". For Sánchez, "the effective collaboration between promoter, architect, artist, designer, communicator, constructor and manufacturer of marble, has made it possible for us

XXXI edition MACAEL AWARDS 2017
The act was attended, among more than 400 attendees, the participants of the ‘VIII Encuentro Internacional de la Piedra’ (International Meeting of the Stone), organized by Extenda Agency, and which, once again, coincided with the celebration of the Macael Awards. It is worth noting that, in this edition, the agents from Kazakhstan, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States, who have come to know the Andalusian Sector offer and held meetings with 20 companies, 18 of them from the Marble Region, are of a high prestige, a fact that has been achieved, mainly, by the Macael Brand official presentation event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York last June, organized by AEMA and Extenda Agency. Throughout his speech, the president, did not want to miss "one of the

3 biggest problems with which companies are currently: the times of the different public administrations", which mean "a ballast, a brake", and recalled that the Third Strategic Plan of the Sector launched together with the Administration, which began "very agile", still has pending conclusions and even it has some that have not been reached. "All of them established in an unconsolidated draft". He urged, therefore, to "continue working on this Strategic Plan begun,

under the premise that it must be alive, that we must set objectives and establish a timetable". However, he said, the industry will continue working to improve, but "we should not go alone, the involvement of the administration should be continuous, realistic and setting goals according to real possibilities”.
And as a sector that reinvents itself and knows how to innovate, the act, presented for the second year by the journalist Isabel JimĂŠnez, has had a completely transgressive character. Digitization, innovation and internationalization became other undisputed protagonists of the night. The objective was to convey that, through these concepts, marble companies are
being able to position themselves in international markets and adapt to the new challenges of society. Large silhouettes of the different awarded works occupied the room so that the guests could take photos with them, a stage with different representations of buildings, a video that graphically showed the immersion of

companies in the digital space and a 'flashmob' show, with dancers dressed in costume and vibrant music, filled the room with energy and surprised the audience. Also, the event, in the constant bet on the diffusion, was broadcast 'in streaming'. Social networks Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube were and will showcase of the night best moments.

MR. ANTONIO LÓPEZ GARCÍA
T
he Spanish painter and sculptor, also a Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts and Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, among other distinctions, was awarded in this XXXI edition of the Macael Awards, for his involvement with the cultural activity of the Marble Region through the ‘Fundación de Arte IbáñezCosentino’.
López, author of the 'Mujer del Almanzora', an 8-meter sculpture, made in 'Blanco Macael' marble and visitable from the inside, picked up, personally, his prize, given by Antonio Sánchez, president of the Association of the Marble Industry in Andalusia (AEMA). "You can count on me" were the words of this icon of Spanish realism from the stage, who also, thanked for it.

the prize that recognizes the 5 star hotel, one of the best known of Las Vegas, for the use of 72,000 m2 of Silestone in the remodeling of the 1,139 luxurious bedrooms, made this summer 2017. Built in 1966, has been the scene of films, TV shows and even video games. From now on, the Macael Marble Region is part of its history.

he Rijnboutt studio, Europe International Award, was recognized for the prescription of marble 'Sierra Elvira' for the Dutch shopping centers Gelderlandplein, in Amsterdam and De Barones, in Breda. HIPOTELS COMPLEX, MALLORCA
T
he National Award, which went to the Hipotels Complex, on the Playa de Palma, was collected by Doña María Antonia Llul, president of the Hipotels Group. Diego Martínez Cano, Almería Chamber of Commerce President, gave this recognition to the complex, consisting of two 4 and 5 star hotels, worthy of this award, for
having used, in total, more than 5,000 square meters of Marble 'Blanco Macael', more than 72,000 square meters of Dekton and more than 1,600 square meters of Silestone. The result is a project with meticulous architectural care, benefit of the great commitment to natural stone and materials from the Macael Marble Region. 1. VILLA RICOTTA, MARBELLA

he private residence 'Villa Ricotta' was worthy of the Design Prize. Its promoter, Joe Ricotta, picked up the award, given by José Cano, president of Asempal (Association of businessmen from Almería). The house, with facade under the direction of the architect Mr. Jesús del Valle and of Renaissance order, integrates

various material and, to a greater extent, ‘Piedra Paloma’. 4600 m2 of cladding and flooring and 390 m3 of sculpted solid material, make up this set where its 18 columns stand more than 7 meters high, with shafts of 6 meters, made in one piece, and an external source with a group of horses modeled in 3D.

ASIA INTERNATIONAL AWARD:
LE MERIDIAN HOTEL, YILAN, TAIWAN
L
ocated in the county of Yilan, Taiwan, and to opt for the construction of its facade by the ultra-compact Dekton surface, born in the Marble Region of Macael, this 5 star resort was granted with the Asia International Award. The facade of Le Meridian Hotel, whose work ended in July 2017, houses 3,800 m2 of material, whose choice lies in its natural character, advanced technology, easy maintenance and sustainable condition. Ms. Lin Hsiu -Fen, Architect of the TMA Architect Studio, in charge of the project, received the award from Gracia Fernández, Government Delegate of the ‘Junta de Andalucía’ in Almería.

PREMIO INTERNACIONAL ÁFRICA: VIVIENDA PARTICULAR EN KENIA
F
rench renaissance architecture, of chàteau style, in Nairobi. This private residence, under the direction of the Architect Iñigo Torrens, was awarded the Africa International Award. With a touch of the colonial style of the area, the rich architectural complex, mixed limestones and travertines and is characterized by its aristocratic lines, facades of numerous windows and sober fenced. Mr. Juan Figuerola-Ferreti, communication coordinator of the Íñigo Torrens studio in Kenya, collected the Award, given by Mrs. Ana Cristina Carrodeguas, First Lady of Miami. Among all the set, stand out its gallery of arches with vaults and the central fountain of the patio (1 y 2).

The project, Award to the work in 'Blanco Macael', is another proof of the intense work of internationalization and opening of markets of the Region’s companies, in general, and of the worldwide recognition of our 'white gold', in particular.
