HPC-NAC REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY: As part of the SI vision for developing and supporting elite level training opportunities and fostering a high performance swimming culture in Ireland, we would like to offer a Regional Development Squad at our Dublin HPC following on from last seasons programme. GOAL: To offer club coaches the chance to provide the athletes they work with at a regional/developmental level the opportunity to increase their training load (time at task) to the relevant level to compete at a National level and above. ELIGIBILITY: Females born between 1997 and 2001 and Males born between 1995 and 1999 who have achieved the relevant qualifying standards will have the opportunity to claim a space on the programme, with a maximum of 30 spaces available, allocated on a first come basis. Athletes who reach the above criteria must be able to complete the basic training performed at squad sessions. Training ability is decided by the HPC Head Coach or Lead Squad Coaches. The entry level criteria are subject to change as we endeavour to continuously raise the standard of the squad. Senior athletes (male born 1994 and older/female born 1996 and older) who were members of last seasons National Programme will be contacted seperately by National Performance Director Peter Banks regarding training/support opportunities to be provided by the NAC –HPC. Athletes on the National Squad programme need not apply for a space on the HPC Regional Development Squad. Instead, coaches of these athletes should contact Coach Paul Donovan directly to arrange the necessary support the HPC can provide. CLUB COACH INVOLVEMENT: Home coaches will receive a weekly e-mail with the sessions performed by their athletes attached. Coaches meetings will be held 3 times per season, with all club coaches invited to take part. Additional contact with the home coaches will be made at regular intervals and the overall development of the athletes remains the home coaches’ responsibility. The Development programme is a way for athletes and their coaches to supplement their club’s training plans to assist in enhancing their development. It is also a stepping stone for athletes who have aspirations to train in the HPC on a full time basis in the future. The coaches meetings will serve as a platform for the staff and home coaches to discuss athletes’ progress and gauge their commitment, understanding and ability to engage in a full time training environment. The purpose of HPC-NAC is to support Swim Ireland’s National Squads programme by offering athletes and coaches the training opportunities necessary to perform on the International stage whilst additionally providing other relevant support areas in addition to pool time when relevant.

COMMITMENT: A regular weekly commitment to attending the sessions is required. The Head Coach must be aware beforehand if an athlete is going to be absent. Regular absenteeism will result in an athlete being removed from the programme. TRAINING GOALS: The emphasis of each individual training session will be on the development of the athletes’ aerobic skills base. Sets will be at a moderate intensity with particular detail placed on the correct execution of fundamental techniques and skills based around a series of controls (i.e. Breathing patterns, Fly kicks of the walls, stroke counting, etc). A secondary emphasis of each session will be on developing the athletes kicking from an endurance standpoint as we feel this is a key building block in the development of all athletes. Basic speed work will also be included with the emphasis again being on performing the swims with correct technique and skills. TRAINING SCHEDULE:  
