INDUSTRIAL LOT COUNT
The annual industrial lot count is carried out to determine the amount of vacant serviced land within the city and to evaluate the yearly additional requirements for industrial expansion. This is the second annual survey of vacant industrial land and thus offers the first opportunity to establish a trend in industrial growth. The data has been collected through the combined sources of aerial photography, building permit applications, architect and assessor's files and finally a field survey. The extent of services shown in the areas include only water and sewer. For the purposes of the survey and the tables of statistics included here, vacant land is defined by separate individual legal parcels which are completely unoccupied (i.e. not "appearineto be put to any use at the time of the survey), except as otherwise noted (as in the case of very large parcels, parts of which are occupied and parts not). In a few instances several contiguous 33 foot lots under old subdivision plans may be combined and treated as one parcel in this report. Acreage calculations of these exceptions are taken as approximate, whereas the surveyed calculations for individual parcels are accurate. It must be noted that no attempt has been made at collecting data on ownership in industrial areas. Therefore a large number of parcels could be vacant for this survey, but unavailable because of ownership. The industrial sites have been divided into three main areas within the city, the northwest, northeast and southeast. A central area comprising the airport, C.N.R. trackage and Stadium Road has been, included in this year's count. However the amount of vacant land available in this area is negligible. The three general areas are further tabulated by subdivision, zoning and the extent of servicing. Strathcona Park has been included within the southeast area this year although the zoning is AG. Table I sets out the vacant industrial acreage that was calculated in January, 1969 and January, 1970 and the acreage developed during 1969.

Table II sets out the details of the vacant land as to zoning, number of parcels in various zones and the range in size of parcels for both vacant and land developed during 1969. Table III adds acreage vacant in January, 1970 that has been serviced by water only or by sewer only. These parcels could probably be completely serviced if necessary. Only legally subdivided parcels are included in this table.
