REAL ESTATE, HOUSING ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY 2014 Business Plan We leverage our real estate, land development, housing and economic expertise to achieve Council's vision for a prosperous and vibrant city. With the recent merger of the Housing and Economic Sustainability and Corporate Properties branches, all services have been consolidated into one branch—Real Estate, Housing and Economic Sustainability (RENEE). While it is business as usual with clients, projects and programs, our branch is working to develop a business plan and align our branch's strategic direction with the Sustainable Development Department and City's goals. A comprehensive business plan is being developed that will include a strategic framework to guide our work in supporting the City's strategic plan (The Way Ahead). Our branch has a diverse and challenging portfolio, and our work on transformative initiatives supports Council's vision in achieving a prosperous and vibrant city. While we are developing the strategic direction for the REHES branch, we continue to provide services and programs to clients and residents, and support City goals through the following major branch initiatives: • Consolidate over 2000 downtown City employees into a single leased civic accommodation office tower • Review of land development governance and business direction • Promote eco-friendly residential developments through Oxford Phase II • Promote industrial investment through the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park • Operationalize and monitor The Way We Prosper implementation plan through industrial, commercial and small business development, including the Council-approved Corner Stores Pilot Program • Continue construction of catalytic projects in The Quarters CRL and initiate construction of the Downtown CRL to promote revitalization • Continue implementation of Cornerstones Phase II to increase affordable housing • Continue implementation of the First Place and Seniors' Housing programs through ongoing development of vacant surplus school sites • Improve space utilization and staff collaboration via Phase II of the Alternative Workstyles Project and the Sustainable Corporate Facility Strategy • Support development of the South-East LRT via land acquisition • Increase branch capacity through review of the clerical service delivery model and initiate the first phase of the Knowledge Transfer Plan and section merger
