Moto Trip
From Aspen, we made our way up the steep and windy Independence Pass, camping riverside on the eastern part of the mountain road, just past the Continental Divide. We woke to a cold morning and tents covered in frost, which melted by midmorning. That sudden freeze seemed to ignite the foliage, creating an almost neon yellow landscape for much of the rest of our ride. Once we broke camp and warmed up, we rode to Salida, then over Monarch Pass to Gunnison and on to Montrose. From there we made our way to the tiny former mining town of Ouray where we camped the second night. The next day checked off a bucket-list item for us: We rode the storied Last Dollar Road to Telluride. The hidden dirt path winds around a low valley, surrounded by the San Juan Mountains, Aspen groves, and scenic vistas at every turn, making it one of the most stunning and memorable rides we have ever done. Moto Trip
After a few hours, we arrived in Telluride, spending our third night in the quaint and beautiful box-canyon town. The next morning we decided to take a side ride to Alta Lakes, located on the backside of Telluride Ski Resort and Palmyra Peak. But no sooner had we arrived at our destination than we heard a snowstorm was coming in, forcing us to race back to Telluride in an effort to avoid it. Finally, we made our way back to Aspen via McClure Pass, passing through Paonia and Carbondale before finding ourselves back where we started. Along the way, we confronted freezing temperatures, unexpected rainstorms, a few bike mishaps, and more mud than our bikes had ever seen, and through it all our new gear persevered, keeping us warm, safe, and looking good—because that matters too. All in all, it was a totally successful ride. Here, some images from the journey. AE THER JOURNAL

IF YOU HAVE A THING FOR CARS, YOU LIKELY KNOW ABOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA-BASED BOUTIQUE RESTORATION HOUSE SINGER VEHICLE DESIGN , FOUNDED IN 2009 BY FORMER CAR DESIGNER ROB DICKINSON TO CELEBRATE THE ICONIC AIRCOOLED ERA OF PORSCHE.
His mantra “everything is important” can be clearly seen in the stunning cars Singer restores with no detail or expense spared. When placed in the hands of the Singer crew, 911s (19891994) become art on wheels, bespoke masterpieces built with customers’ 964 chassis as the starting points, then rendering them in spectacular hues with pristine interiors, custom accents, and superb mechanics. Once reconstructed, the team puts each vehicle through rigorous testing to ensure it performs to their standards. (c o n t i n u e d o n n e x t page) AE THER JOURNAL

Using his medium-format Hasselblad H1 and available light, photographer Lionel Koretzky had the honor of photographing several Singer creations, highlighting the impeccable attention to detail, luxe fabrics, and spectacular craftsmanship. “I was lucky to have been able to get inside Singer—it’s special,” says Koretzky. “I saw [Dickinson] lay down by a car with a leather color chart, figuring out which shade would work best with the chrome bumper and paint color. It’s the supercar culture.” Here, a photo essay of several Porsches restored by Singer Vehicle Design. Suddenly feeling the desire for a road trip? Us too. singervehicledesign.com

Setting up a shot in an Old Snowmass home.
Aspen, CO
WHEN WE DECIDE ON A LOCATION FOR OUR SHOOTS , WE ALWAYS TRY TO HEAD SOMEWHERE VISUALLY STUNNING BUT ALSO SOMEWHERE WE CAN EXPLORE , FINDING UNDISCOVERED CORNERS AND UNEXPECTED BACKDROPS ALL ALONG THE WAY . OUR PHOTO SHOOTS EVOLVE AND GROW AS THEY GO , STARTING OFF AS ONE THING AND OF TEN BECOMING SOMETHING NEW AS INSPIRATION TAKES HOLD .
For Spring/Summer ’17, we decided to head to the picturesque Aspen, Colorado, a town dear to our hearts because it is home to one of our retail locations. We began the adventure by exploring Aspen’s more remote spots and the surrounding areas of the Roaring Fork Valley, all set deep in the Rocky Mountains. We made our way up and down winding mountain roads and valleys, going off trail wherever we could, sometimes getting lost (and sometimes getting stuck). Finally we decided upon two locations for our shoot, one a spectacular ranch deep in Old Snowmass, the other, Independence Pass, a windy and treacherous high-mountain road connecting Aspen and Leadville. We pulled over at various spots along the pass, often hiking or bouldering our way into locations, discovering gorgeous rock formations, secret swimming holes, and expansive vistas wherever we ventured. We concluded the shoot where Independence Pass intersects the Continental Divide at 12,000 feet, shooting our final images as the sun set against the imposing mountain ranges in the distance. Here, some images from our Colorado adventure for Spring ’17. AE THER JOURNAL

ADVENTURE AWAITS
THE AETHER GUIDE TO WHERE TO GO THIS SUMMER AND WHY

E S
E Y
With the arrival of summer comes endless opportunities to experience nature—the way you choose to experience it is, of course, up to you. Are you a beach bum seeking the nearest ocean? A mountain lover who wants to play at high altitude? A devout skier who refuses to let winter end, or a moto enthusiast craving the windiest of roads? We at AETHER understand the need for adventure in all its forms, so we sought out diverse spots we think should be on your must-visit list this spring or summer—and a few of the key AETHER pieces you should make sure are in your bag when you go.

Mediterranean island technically located in France but laced with Italian culture. However, resist the temptation to stereotype Corsica as just another European vacation spot: It actually boasts its own language, traditions, and Men’s Boardwalk Swim
laid-back attitude. A string of charming coastal towns on a mountainous landscape, Corsica is made up of fishing villages in the north and hundreds of spectacular beaches along a scenic coastline. Unsurprisingly there are also luxe hotels (like the private estate, Domaine de Murtoli, in the southwest corner) and even Michelinstarred restaurants. This is the getaway for those who settle for nothing less than the best.

For a scenic summer getaway, get on your motorcycle and take Highway 1 along the Pacific to the Russian River Valley and Autocamp, a luxury airstream-trailer resort in the heart of Sonoma County. Set in a native redwood forest, Autocamp offers plush canvas tents

and handcrafted huts for lodging in addition to its oneof-a-kind trailers. Once you’ve put the bike away, make sure to take a hike in the redwoods and to leave time for wine tasting—you are in the heart of wine country after all. JACKSON HOLE , WYOMING FOR THE MOUNTAIN ENTHUSIAST
Women’s Arden Jacket
There are ocean people and mountain people: If you fall into the latter category then you know how amazing mountain towns are in the warmer months. One such place is Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which sits at the base of the imposing Tetons at just more than 6,000 feet above sea level. Offering virtually every outdoor activity under the sun—from hiking and biking to flyfishing, white-water rafting, and more—Jackson is arguably even more fun once the snow melts. While the town has maintained an Old West authenticity, luxury isn’t far: The all-suite Amangani (which translates to
Men’s Moorland Jacket
“peaceful home” in the Shoshone language) is located about five miles outside of town and offers every creature comfort one could dream of. And, Jackson boasts a prime location near both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, making it a summer destination not to be missed. AE THER JOURNAL
