2011 SEASON PREVIEW

While the first glance of the 2011 Air Force women’s gymnas cs roster may look somewhat inexperienced, with just five upperclassmen and nine newcomers, head coach Doug Day has created a deep lineup of talented veterans and impressive freshmen that is posed to make an impact this season. Under Day’s guidance, the Falcons have con nued to improve … and 2011 promises to be no excep on.

Coming off of a strong freshman campaign, Tara Harris represents the Falcons’ sophomore class. Harris was an important part of the lineup last season, compe ng on the balance beam in every meet, and serving as a consistent performer on the vault.

Despite its youth, Air Force has a strong backbone with its senior class.

Maddie Bannon was the regional champion on the balance beam, as well as a three- me state champion. Emily Bucher made three trips to the na onal championships, while Laura Fauss was the Level 9 Region 1 allaround champion in 2010. Fauss was also a two- me Western qualifier, four- me regional compe tor and a member of the Region 1 team that won the 2010 Western Na onal Championships.

Bri any Du on, a 2008 USAG All-American on the floor exercise and allaround, will serve as the captain for the 2011 season. Du on brings a wealth of experience to the 2011 roster, as she has competed in every single meet of her career, including 36 as an all-around compe tor. Classmate Lisa Wong is another experienced veteran, having competed in all but one compe on throughout her first three seasons. A two- me academic all-conference selec on and 2010 USAG Scholar-Athlete selec on, Wong earned a spot at the NCAA Regional Championship last season. Fellow senior Holland Davis came on strong during her junior campaign, earning a permanent spot in the uneven bars rota on and serving as a consistent performer on the vault. Voted as the Most Improved Gymnast of 2010, Davis will con nue to add depth and leadership for the Falcons.

The largest nine-member freshmen class is the largest in program history.

Linnaea Hance is a four- me Level 10 state and regional qualifier, while twice serving as an alternate for the Junior Olympic Na onal Championships. Jessica Hanner was a five- me all-around champion at the state level, a three- me Western na onal qualifier, a two- me Level 9 regional all-around champion and the 2009 Level 10 regional champion on the balance beam. Ka e Hawthorne adds another Junior Olympic Na onal qualifier to the Falcons’ roster.

The Falcons’ next two classes are comprised of just two members, but the experience that was gained by both gymnasts during their respec ve freshman seasons will provide an invaluable benefit to the Air Force program going into the 2011 season.

Janie Kovacs was a four- me Level 10 regional qualifier and Level 8 Region 5 all-around champion. Jen Larsen was a member of the team that won the 2010 Level 10 na onal tle, while earning three top-10 finishes at the 2008 Level 9 Western na onals. Melanie Or z was a member of the fourth-place team at the high school na onal championships, while also advancing to the Level 10 regional championships.

Air Force will welcome Sammi Jones back to the lineup, a er she missed all of last season with an injury. Despite not compe ng last year, the squad’s lone junior was a vital member of the 2009 squad, compe ng in every compe on on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise.

Day returns to the gym for his fi h season as the Falcons’ head coach. The 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federa on coach of the year, Day led the 2009 squad to some of its highest totals in over six years and hopes to build on that success with his latest recrui ng class.

2010 Season in Review

2010 SEASON IN REVIEW Highlighted by its highest team total in over six years, the Air Force women’s gymnastics team had a remarkable season in 2010. The season, where head coach Doug Day was honored as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s Coach of the Year, saw the Falcons surpass the 190-point mark on three occasions, including a season-high score of 193.300 against a team ranked 20th in the national rankings. The Falcons opened the 2010 season looking for someone to fill the void left by the graduation of two-time MPSF Gymnast of the Year Abbey Rogers. At first glance, the task may have seemed daunting, as the 13-member roster featured just two seniors. However, the lineup had strong veteran leadership from seniors Aftan Boudreaux (team captain) and Michelle Denise, and a wealth of experience from its returning members, which included four USAG All-Americans. The depth of the returning roster, which featured Boudreaux, Denise, three juniors and four sophomores, was bolstered by the addition of four talented freshmen. Air Force opened the season on Jan. 8 at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational in Corvallis, Ore., facing a pair of teams that were ranked among the top 15 of the preseason coaches’ poll. Highlighted by three individual top-10 finishes, the Falcons tallied 184.475 points to place third in the four-team meet. No. 10 Oregon State won its own invitational with a score of 195.625, while 13th-ranked Illinois placed second with a 192.850. Air Force claimed its first win of the season at that meet, as it defeated Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe, Alaska-Anchorage, by one point (183.475) to take third. Sophomore Jenna Dudley posted the highest finish of the Air Force gymnasts, en route to a fourth-place all-around total of 38.875. Dudley’s best individual event finish came on the balance beam, where she tied with junior Brittany Dutton for eighth (9.525). Dudley also claimed a top-10 finish on the floor exercise with a score of 9.600. The schedule didn’t ease up for the Falcons, who traveled to the Winterfest Classic in Denver, Colo., the following week. Air Force once again took on a pair of nationallyranked teams; this time in the form of sixth-ranked Denver and No. 18 Penn State. Air Force improved its team total by more than a point (195.850) to take third behind the host Pioneers (194.650) and Nittany Lions (194.150). Dudley and Dutton picked up a pair of top-10 finishes on the floor exercise, as they finished eighth (9.725) and ninth (9.675), respectively, while freshman Tara Harris placed 10th on the balance beam with a score of 9.475. The duo of Dudley and Dutton also tied for the team’s top score on the vault (9.575) and Dutton used that same score to pace the Falcons on the uneven bars. Air Force continued on the road, traveling to Normal, Ill., for the Illinois State Quadrangular on Jan. 24. With a team score of 185.150, the Falcons posted their second highest total of the season to finish third. Illinois State won its home competition with a score of 190.925, while Western Michigan finished second with a 190.525. Wisconsin-La Crosse rounded out the four-team competition with a score of 183.300. Dutton posted the squad’s best finishes of the night, placing third on the vault with a career-best 9.775 and fourth on the floor exercise with a mark of 9.625. Dudley was the team’s top finisher on the remaining two events, taking ninth on the uneven bars (9.250) and 10th on the balance beam (9.575). Boudreaux also claimed a top-10 finish for the Falcons, taking 10th on the uneven bars with a 9.175. It took nearly a month of the season, but the Falcons finally made their 2010 home debut on Jan. 27 when they hosted conference opponent, Alaska-Anchorage. Air Force took the top three spots on the floor exercise to earn a narrow 185.350-184.800 victory over the visiting Seawolves in the program’s first dual meet of the season.

Dudley’s season-best 9.725 on the floor exercise secured the win for the Falcons, as she wrapped up an impressive rotation. Dutton placed second with a score of 9.650, while Denise and junior Lisa Wong tied for third with matching scores of 9.300.

2010 SEASON IN REVIEW Earlier in the meet, Dutton claimed the program’s first event title of the season, as she won the vault with a score of 9.650. The junior also finished third on the uneven bars (9.400) and second in the all-around (37.700). In addition to winning the floor exercise, Dudley finished fourth on the vault (9.525) and balance beam (9.300), en route to a third-place score of 37.500 in the all-around. Air Force remained at the Academy to host conference leader UC Davis on Jan. 30. Despite event titles from Dutton and Dudley, the Falcons dropped a 191.575-185.300 decision to the visiting Aggies. The Falcons were paced once again by Dutton and Dudley, who claimed event titles for the second straight meet. Dutton won the vault with a score of 9.625, while Dudley placed first on the floor exercise with a career-best matching score of 9.775. Dudley, who bettered the field on the floor by .125, finished second in the all-around (38.425), third on the vault (9.550), fourth on the uneven bars (9.525) and fifth on the balance beam (9.575). Several other Falcons had strong performances during the meet against the Aggies. Denise tied for second on the floor exercise with a season-best 9.650 and finished within the top half on the uneven bars, while Wong earned a top-six finish on the balance beam. Following strong overall performances in a pair of dual meets against Alaska-Anchorage and UC Davis, Dudley earned the first MPSF Gymnast of the Week award of her career on Feb. 2. The sophomore, who won both floor exercise event titles with tallies over 9.700, while finishing within the top five of nearly every event. Air Force headed back out on the road on Feb. 7, traveling to Denton, Texas, for the Texas Woman’s University Quadrangular. The Falcons improved their team score by nearly three points to 188.650, while accounting for season-best event scores on the balance beam (46.650) and floor exercise (47.575). TWU won its home meet with a score of 193.125, while Northern Illinois placed second at 192.425. Air Force finished third, while Centenary placed fourth with a tally of 185.925. Five Falcons combined for six career-best marks at the meet. Dudley tallied a 9.700 to take third on the vault, while Wong claimed the same finish on the balance beam with a score of 9.725. Junior Holland Davis improved her score on the uneven bars to 9.275, while Harris added personal-best scores on both the uneven bars (9.150) and all-around (36.700). Freshman Erin Brown made the biggest scoring improvement of the night, as she increased her score on the balance beam by nearly one point to 9.550. Air Force returned to the Academy to host Southeast Missouri State and conference foe Seattle Pacific on Feb. 20. While SEMO easily won the team competition with a score of 194.050, it was the battle between the two programs nicknamed “the Falcons” that went down to the final gymnast. Air Force led SPU throughout the first three rotations, but that advantage had been narrowed by the last event. Seattle Pacific had locked in a final score of 187.075, but Air Force still had three competitors remaining on the floor exercise. Denise was the first of Air Force’s final three, matching her season-best score of 9.650. Dutton used a career-best performance of 9.800 to cut Seattle Pacific’s lead to just .125 points. Dudley, the final gymnast, recorded a score of 9.750 to boost Air Force’s score up to 188.000 and give the home team the second-place finish in the team standings. The night also featured the triumphant return of senior Stephanie Frick, who competed on the vault for the first time in over two years. The senior, whose career had been cut short due to a shoulder injury sustained during her sophomore year, recorded the Falcons’ thirdbest vault of the night, tallying a score of 9.475. Dutton’s 9.800 on the floor exercise was good for second, while Dudley earned the same placement on the vault with a 9.775 and took third on the uneven bars (9.675) and allaround (37.950).

2010 SEASON IN REVIEW The Falcons remained close to home, as they headed to Denver just two days later for the first of two seasonal dual meets against the 18th-ranked Pioneers. Highlighted by numerous career-best performances, Air Force tallied its best team score in over two years with a total of 191.725. Denver won the competition with a score of 193.900, but the 2.175 margin separating the two programs was one of the closest finishes in the long history of the two teams. Backed by two career-best scores and three season-high marks, the Falcons improved their season uneven bars total by nearly one point to 48.125. Air Force also improved its team scores on the floor exercise (47.900) and balance beam (47.775). Dudley made two trips to the award podium, tying for second on the floor exercise (9.775) and finishing second outright in the all-around (38.825). The sophomore also paced the team on the uneven bars (fifth) and balance beam (sixth, tie), while Dutton was the Falcons’ top finisher on the vault (sixth). Dudley was honored by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation once again, as they named the sophomore Gymnast of the Week for the second time of the season. Air Force embarked on its farthest road trip of the season over the March 12-14 weekend, as it traveled to Anchorage, Alaska, for a pair of dual meets against the Seawolves. Despite top-five finishes on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise from Dutton, the Falcons dropped the March 12 competition with Alaska-Anchorage by a narrow 187.650-187.075 decision. Dutton recorded the squad’s best finish of the night on the vault, as she placed second with a score of 9.675. She also took third on the uneven bars with a season-best 9.650 and tied for that finish on the floor exercise with a mark of 9.675. Dutton and Harris accounted for two of the top three scores on the vault, as Harris finished third with a mark of 9.625. Air Force also garnered two of the top three spots on the balance beam, behind Dudley (9.500, second) and Wong (9.450, third). The Falcons remained in the Last Frontier State for a second dual meet with Alaska-Anchorage on March 14. Air Force earned its first balance beam title of the season from freshman Britany Calley, but was edged by the Seawolves by just .075 points in a 190.050-189.975 final. Competing in just her third collegiate meet, Calley turned in a team-high 9.775 performance on the beam to pace the Falcons to three of the top four spots. Calley, who was joined by Dudley (9.750, second) and Wong (9.675, fourth) on the beam podium, was also one of four Falcons to finish within the top six of the uneven bars. Dutton, who placed second on the vault (9.775) and tied for second on the floor exercise (.725) with Dudley, scored a 9.650 on the uneven bars to place third, while Boudreaux (9.575), Calley (9.475) and Davis (9.450), finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Air Force closed out the regular season on March 22, hosting Denver at the Cadet West Gym. With 12 career-best scores and an additional pair of season-high marks, the Falcons tallied a combined score of 193.300 – their best team total since the 2004 season. The Falcons, who fell by just 2.50 points to the 20th-ranked Pioneers, tallied seasonhigh team marks on three of four events, while not having to count a score lower than 9.500 on any event.

2010 SEASON IN REVIEW The Falcons opened post-season action in style, as Dudley became the program’s first-ever MPSF vault champion. Tallying a career-best matching score of 9.800, Dudley paced the Falcons to their third total of the season that surpassed the 190-point mark. UC Davis won the meet with a score of 194.150, while Seattle Pacific took second at 192.850. Air Force finished third with a score of 192.500 and Alaska-Anchorage rounded out the four-team meet with a total of 190.725.

Following the USAG Championships, Dudley claimed a pair of USAG AllAmerica certificates, earning first-team honors on the floor exercise (based on overall finish in the event finals) and second-team citations on the uneven bars (based on finishing as an alternate for that event in the event finals).

In addition to her vault title, Dudley tied with Dutton for third on the floor exercise behind matching career-best scores of 9.825 – one of the highest scores on that event in recent years. Air Force also accounted for the runner-up in the all-around, as Calley recorded a combined score of 38.375.

Wong was named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, while also earning a spot on the USA Gymnastics All-Academic Team. To be nominated for these awards, a gymnast must be at least a sophomore with a grade-point-average of at least 3.00 and have competed in at least 50-percent of the team’s competitions.

Following the conference championships, two of Air Force’s coaches were honored by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Day was voted by his peers as the Head Coach of the Year, while Nelle Barriteau, in her third year with the program, was the selected as the league’s top assistant coach. It was the first such honor for an Air Force staff member in either coaching category. The Falcons also claimed eight all-conference honors, based on individual regional qualifying scores. Dutton led the squad with a team-high four all-MPSF selections (vault, uneven bars, floor exercise, all-around), while Dudley added three (balance beam, floor exercise, all-around) and Wong claimed one (balance beam). Four Air Force gymnasts were selected to compete at the NCAA Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Apr. 10. Dudley and Denise competed in the all-around, finishing 16th (38.425) and 19th (36.775), respectively, while Denise and Wong competed as event specialists. Denise claimed a 30th-place score of 9.700 on the floor exercise, while Wong finished 39th on the balance beam with a mark of 9.100.

A pair of Falcons collected academic awards during the 2010 season.

In addition, Brown was named a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete. This distinction is given to any student-athlete who have finished at least two academic terms, while maintaining a GPA of at least 3.50. Air Force wrapped up the 2010 season with its annual banquet. Dudley earned the team’s MVP award, becoming the youngest Falcon to earn the program’s top honor since Kimberly Broughton claimed MVP honors as a freshman in 2000. Wong claimed the Warrior Award for the second straight year, while Davis was named the Most Improved Gymnast. The Falcons' banquet closed out a remarkable season, which saw the program cross the 190-point mark on three occasions and post its highest team total in six years - 193.300 - during its final home meet. Six upperclassmen accounted for career-best marks in 13 different events, including six marks over 9.750 and three over 9.800.

The Falcons wrapped up team competition on Apr. 15, with a fourth-place showing in the preliminary round of action at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. The Falcons registered a combined score of 185.925 to finish behind Bridgeport (192.575), Rutgers (189.400) and Seattle-Pacific (187.925) during the first qualifying session. Dudley posted the Falcons’ best finishes on the vault (9.550, 10th), uneven bars (9.550, eighth) and floor exercise (9.650, eighth tie), en route to a fourth-place finish on the all-around (37.550). Dudley shared the eighth-place finish on the floor with Calley, while Wong posted the squad’s best finish of the afternoon on the balance beam, as she scored a 9.450 to take 17th. With Dudley’s finish on the floor exercise (based on overall all-around standings), the sophomore advanced to the USAG national event finals on Apr. 17. She amassed an average of 9.550 to finish 12th.

U.S. Air Force Academy

THE ACADEMY EXPERIENCE The United States Air Force Academy offers a four-year program of instruction and experience designed to educate, train and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation. Each cadet graduates with a bachelor of science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. COURSE OF STUDY Cadets are exposed to a balanced curriculum that provides the knowledge, skills and responsibilities essential to a career Air Force officer. The entire USAFA experience is integrated and mapped to achieve a set of desired outcomes in every graduate. The core academic curriculum includes courses in basic sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities. Cadets take additional elective courses to complete requirements for one of 32 major areas of study. About 50 percent of the cadets complete majors in science and engineering; the remainder graduate in the social sciences and humanities. Some of the most popular majors include management, aeronautical engineering, foreign area studies, history, behavioral science, civil engineering, astronautical engineering, electrical engineering and engineering mechanics. FACULTY COMPOSITION The majority of the Academy's faculty members, more than 500 total, are Air Force officers. They are selected primarily from career-officer volunteers who have established outstanding records of performance and dedication. Each has at least a master's degree and more than 55 percent have doctorates or other terminal degrees in their field of study. About 30 percent of the faculty are civilians who bring great depth of disciplinary and educational expertise and provide academic stability and continuity. Faculty members are intensely focused on cadet learning as an integral part of their officer development. The Air Force Academy has been ranked No. 1 in the nation for the most accessible and involved faculty for four years in a row. To provide greater contributions by a diverse faculty, the Academy has several distinguished visiting professors and endowed professors who serve one or more years. Officers from other services, as well as officers from allied countries are also members of the faculty. Distinguished civilian and military lecturers also share their expertise with the cadets during the academic year. ATHLETIC PROGRAM The Academy's athletic program is designed to improve physical fitness, teach athletic skills and develop leadership qualities. To achieve its goals, the Academy offers some of the most extensive physical education, intramural sports and intercollegiate athletic programs in the nation. Cadets take at least three different physical education courses each year. MILITARY EDUCATION AND TRAINING An air, space and cyberspace-oriented military education, training and leadership program begins with basic cadet training and continues throughout the four years. Seniors are responsible for the organizational leadership of the cadet wing, while juniors and sophomores seek to develop team and interpersonal leadership and instructional skills.

Cadets are projected into as many active leadership roles as possible to prepare them to be effective Air Force officers. Fundamental concepts of military organization -- drill, ethics, honor, Air Force heritage and physical training -- are emphasized the first summer during basic cadet training. Freshmen study the military role in United States society, as well as the mission and organization of the Air Force. Sophomores receive instruction in communication skills and juniors study combat and operational aspects of the Air Force. The Academy offers courses in flying, navigation, soaring and parachuting, building from basic skills to instructor duties. Some cadets may fly light aircraft with the Cadet Flying Team. Summer training for cadets is divided into three, three-week training periods. There are a variety of programs available and each cadet is required to complete two training periods each summer with leave during the other period. All new cadets take six weeks of basic cadet training in their first summer. Combat survival training is a required three-week program during cadets' second summer. For other second-summer training periods, cadets have options such as working with Airmen in an operational unit at an Air Force installation, airborne parachute training, soaring or basic free-fall parachute training. During their last two summers, all cadets are offered leadership training as supervisors or instructors in the summer programs listed above. Extracurricular activities also are an integral part of the education program. The cadet ski club, drum and bugle corps, cadet chorale and forensics are a few of the programs available to Academy cadets. NOMINATIONS Nominations to the Academy may be obtained through a congressional sponsor or by meeting eligibility criteria in other categories of competition established by law. For information on admission procedures, write to HQ USAFA/RRS; 2304 Cadet Drive, Suite 200; USAF Academy, CO 80840-5025. WWW.USAFA.EDU

HISTORY OF THE ACADEMY In 1948, a board of leading civilian and military educators was appointed to plan the curriculum for an academy that would meet the needs of the newly established Air Force. The board determined that Air Force requirements could not be met by expanding the other service academies and recommended an Air Force Academy be established without delay. In 1949, then Secretary of the Air Force W. Stuart Symington appointed a commission to assist in selecting a site and on April 1, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorized creation of the United States Air Force Academy. After considering 580 sites in 45 states, the commission narrowed the choice to three locations. During the summer of 1954, Secretary of the Air Force Harold Talbott selected a site near Colorado Springs, Colo. Colorado contributed $1 million toward purchase of the property. In July 1955, the first Academy class entered interim facilities at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, while construction began. It was sufficiently completed for occupancy by the cadet wing in late August 1958. Initial construction cost was $142 million. Women entered the Academy on June 28, 1976, as members of the class of 1980.

ACADEMY ATHLETICS Few schools in the country have an athle c program as extensive as the United States Air Force Academy's. The goals of the Academy’s athle c program are to enhance the physical condi oning of all cadets, to develop the physical skills necessary for officership, to teach leadership in a compe ve environment and to build character. There are three subdivisions of the athle c program: intercollegiate athle cs, intramurals and physical educa on. The intercollegiate program has 17 men's and 10 women's NCAA-sanc oned teams, facing some of the top compe on in the na on. Men’s teams are football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey, cross-country, fencing, golf, gymnas cs, indoor and outdoor track, lacrosse, rifle, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling. The Academy fields women's teams in basketball, cross-country, fencing, gymnas cs, rifle, indoor and outdoor track, swimming and diving, soccer, tennis and volleyball. In addi on, the Academy sponsors two non-NCAA programs; boxing and cheerleading. The majority of the Academy’s men’s and women’s programs compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons compete in this conference against teams from Brigham Young, New Mexico, Colorado State, San Diego State, TCU, Wyoming, Utah and UNLV. All sports also compete against non-conference opponents, including many na onally-ranked teams. The football team competes annually for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, which is emblema c of service academy football supremacy. The Falcons have won the trophy 16 mes, which is more than Army and Navy combined. The winner of the annual rivalry visits the White House to have the trophy presented by the President of the United States. The USAFA Cadet Field House is one of the most impressive buildings in the country. It’s a modern, versa le structure with seemingly endless uses. The $5.6 million building is five stories high and 396 feet by 426 feet, the size of three football fields laid side by side. FALCONS IN THE COMMUNITY $5,000 over the last two years, were listed among the top 55 on the Denver Race for the Cure's Fundraising Honor Roll for 2010. Denver's Race for the Cure is one in a series of races that take place every year around the world. The races help raise significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrate breast cancer survivorship and honor those who have lost their ba le with the disease.

RACE FOR THE CURE The members of the Air Force gymnas cs program are used to compe ng against other gymnasts, but last week the Falcons came together to compete in a bigger challenge. For the second straight year, members of the men's and women's gymnas cs teams took to the streets of downtown Denver to par cipate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The 33 members of the Falcons' gymnas cs program were some of the over 50,000 par cipants that took part in Denver's 18th annual race on Sunday, Oct. 3. The race began at Confluence Park and con nued around Invesco Field at Mile High, before concluding near the Pepsi Center.

ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROGRAM The Air Force men's and women's gymnas cs teams spent me with some students at Monroe Elementary School in Colorado Springs, Colo., as a part of the athle c department's adopt-a-school program. The a erschool program allows the grade-school children to interact with members of each of the Academy's sports teams throughout the school year.

Men’s team senior Dan Klimkowski served as the captain for the Falcons' volunteer efforts for the second straight year. Last year, he saw the project as a way to promote bonding between the men's and women's teams, while suppor ng a worthwhile cause. This year, the Falcons had a familiar face in their thoughts, as they walked in support of Diane, a photographer and friend of women's head coach Doug Day, who spent the week prior to undergoing a double mastectomy with the team taking photos for the upcoming season. "Everyone was really into the race this year," Klimkowski said. "The race has become something we look forward to every year. When I started this, I had no idea that it would become a tradi on. (This year) was really special, because we had the chance to come together and race for Diane. She is such a strong woman and it puts a lot in perspec ve."

A er each Air Force gymnast introduced themselves to the students by name, class year, hometown and favorite event, the Falcons demonstrated to the students the preprac ce stretching that they do on a daily basis during training. The students joined the Falcons during the stretching. Following a handstand contest between the men's and women's teams, the Falcons divided the children onto two mats and spent the remainder of the me teaching the students basic tumbling moves, including somersaults, handstands and cartwheels. Each student received hands-on a en on from the cadets, who assisted and supported the students through each new move.
