INTRODUCING PALAZZO DI VARIGNANA, BOLOGNA

The 18th century Palazzo di Varignana is situated at the top of the rolling hills in the historic village of Varignana, with Bologna and the Adriatic coast just on the horizon. It is a quick, picturesque, 30-minute drive from the enchanting city of Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy, which is home to the magical UNESCO World Heritage site, The Porticoes of Bologna.

Palazzo di Varignana is set in a 75-acre estate enveloped by botanical landscaped gardens, farmland, vineyards, and olive trees. The 134 spacious and contemporary rooms and suites offer something for everyone. Those looking for exclusive privacy can now stay in one of the five new villas – ranging from four to six rooms they are perfect for families, friends and larger groups celebrating milestone occasions. Activities and experiences can be shared together in one of the many swimming pools, terraces, tennis, padel and squash courts as well as the 18-hole Le Fonti golf course, complete with its very own driving range and putting green. Perfect for a keen golfer to practice getting back into the swing of things.

The impressive Varsana Spa has its own wellness-themed Vital Suites which are often chosen by those visiting the resort just for the spa. New this year, the property boosts its wellness offering with a new extensive Medical Centre, which focuses on detoxifying, boosting immunity, and counteracting oxidative stress through a variety of medical and aesthetic personalised treatments. The sprawling wellness facilities include a hammam, sensory showers, bio-sauna, Finnish sauna, steam bath, ice waterfall and Kneipp circuit. The wellness trails on site allow guests to explore the estate by bike or foot. Wellness experts are on hand to encourage Nordic walking during which guests can discover hidden lakes and breathtaking secret views.

The farm was founded in 2015 and since then, the property has cultivated olives and grapes. The high-quality produce has led to homemade products sold in the shop as well as a farm-to-table concept in all three restaurants, with their fourth restaurant, Il Palazzo, to re-open following a full refurbishment this year. Given the beauty of its surroundings in all seasons, Palazzo di Varignana is open all year round.

Top Tip: Places can now be booked for the muchanticipated annual Varignana Music Festival. The summer classical-music event welcomes some of the most acclaimed international musicians in a series of concerts and dinners.

BOOK IT

There are many flights from London to Bologna Guglielmo Marconi International Airport with British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair. Palazzo di Varignana can be reached from there by a 30-minute transfer, and the resort offers a shuttle service upon request.

Palazzo di Varignana offers rooms from €230 per night, based on two adults sharing on a B&B basis.
