Steam Dreams

I have the quote below stuck on the mirror in my bedroom and one day my grandson read it and questioned me –there ensued an interesting discussion which got me thinking about how we can create our futures.

"The best way to predict your future is to create it".

Life is all about energy and we know that the energy or vibrations we put out can have an impact on what we attract. In that sense we can certainly play a part in creating our own futures.

Below are a few steps you might take in creating a future you want and feel excited about.

Imagination

There is absolutely nothing wrong with dreaming. Almost everything we do starts with an idea – a thought, a dream. So, capitalise on this and let your imagination lead you to what you want. Whether it is a new home, a career, a partner, more money or greater balance in life. Let your imagination run wild and start envisioning the ideal life for yourself.

But don’t ‘just’ imagine what you want, go to town think in detail, colours, style imagine yourself ‘in’ that life – how would it feel. Connect to the emotions that is the most effective kind of visualisation.

Focus

Once you have a detailed sense of what you want then focus upon it – repeat the visualisation, adding to it every time you do and keeping it to the forefront of your mind. But what do we mean by focus – well it means it becomes a central part of our thinking. Part of that often means we need to ignore or at least not be distracted by other things. Of late, there seems to be a view that multi-tasking is the best way of working or managing our multiple responsibilities but actually having a concentrated focus often increases our productivity. We can’t actually give concentrated focus to 2 things at once, one will always take precedence. It’s much better to decide on what is important to you and decide to give full focus to those – it doesn’t mean you can’t ever focus on other things but it does mean you choose to focus first on the things that are important.

Feelings

We’ve already mentioned then when visualising it is worth engaging with your emotions – how would it feel to be living that dream life? Get used to knowing what makes you feel good and try to fit those things into your life.

But it is also helpful to get in touch with feelings that aren’t so good – what was it that lowered your mood or made you feel hurt or upset, notice those things too and then think how you can reduce the impact they have.

Maybe certain situations always make you feel low – can they be avoided? Maybe certain people or certain comments from certain people always have an impact on your mood, well you can either avoid them or be straight tell them you don’t like the impact of what they say.

Some situations can be very hard to exit yourself from –illness of a loved one for example, but in such situations it’s important to shift your mindset away from the situation, which is often out of your control, to the things which are with your control. It can be very hard to do I don’t deny that but when you can, it can bring much greater peace into your life.

Action

Creating a future, building a life you want to live also involves taking action. Once we have a clear idea of what we want then to move it from a dream to a reality we need to ‘do’ things. They may be very small steps but those small steps can add up and move us forward.

This again may not be easy and lack of confidence, fear of failure or even fear of success can get in the way. If that happens you need to remind yourself that you are deserving of a life you love, of the lifestyle you want and work to adjust your mindset if there is a voice that tells you it won’t happen for you, you don’t deserve that life etc.

Doing is a great way to give a message to our subconscious that we won’t listen to those voices that raise doubt and fear, we will forge ahead to create a life we love. It can also be tempting to find reasons why we can’t start now, often because we aren’t sure we are prepared enough or ready in some way – maybe we worry we don’t have the talents or skills we may need. But launching into some sort of action also quietens those cautious voices.

We only get one chance to live this life. Make sure it is one you enjoy.
