The season is very much underway and at Peterborough United, we are enjoying life in the Sky Bet Championship. It is a hugely competitive division, as we knew it would be, but we worked so hard as a club to get promoted last term, we have to enjoy the challenges that we will face this term.

Away from the Championship, the big recent story, certainly at the time of writing this column, was the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United. I think I spoke in this column a few months ago that the pandemic would have a massive impact on the transfer window, but bizarrely those at the top seem to be awash with cash.

First it was Manchester City purchasing Jack Grealish for a reported £100m and then Lukaku arrived back at Chelsea for another hefty fee. Harry Kane flirted with everyone he could by the looks of it, but has stayed put at Tottenham Hotspur and then Ronaldo was due to follow Grealish to City.

However, it appears that Sir Alex Ferguson swayed Ronaldo as he was soon announced as a United player. Although he is coming to the end of his career, there is no doubt that he is a massive signing for United. He will score goals in the Premier League. He is probably exactly what they need. I am certainly looking forward to United with him in the side.

In Europe, Lionel Messi left Barcelona and has joined PSG for unbelievable money and it looks like Mbappe might be joining Real Madrid for over £150m. It is incredible what has happened in the transfer market this summer.

Back to us at the Weston Homes Stadium, and the advantages of being a Championship club is the fact we have international breaks. We might not yet have many players leaving us for international exposure but that will come make no mistake of that. Harrison Burrows and Ronnie Edwards will be representing their country very soon. Look out for them!
