25th ANNIVERSARY REUNION

BATON ROUGE, LA. | October 15-18, 2015

October 15, 2015 Dear Fellow Alumni, As we have grown older we often think back of fond memories of our high school years. It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years! To each of you, thank you for coming and wanting to be a part of this momentous milestone. We have a lot of great talents amongst us! We need to thank Christopher Crockett and his company for designing and printing our T-shirts, towels and bags. He and Nerissa Hives Cheers had a vision and they made it happen. Hats off to both of you! Also, thank you to Larry Knight, who served as our publicist and prepared and printed the reunion booklets. Please refer to page 5 in this book and witness the heart dropping poem entitled “those future days” authored by Larry. Job well done! Thank you to Yolanda Williams for spearheading the tailgate, securing our location and providing the tent. Also, thank you to Nerissa Cheers for all tailgating decorations and set up ideas. You have been a sounding board since day one and have followed through until the end. When obstacles were encountered, there were other alumni who stepped up to assist in making this possible. Thank you to Marlon Antoine and Terrance Dunn for assisting with food preparations for the tailgating event and Lee Henderson for assisting in locating our classmates. I really appreciate you all! A special thank you goes to the committee members and for volunteering your time and efforts over the past few months. You put up with my meeting requests, calls, emails and texts. It was hectic tracking everyone down and pulling us together, but we did it! I understand we all have busy lives but you were devoted to making this a success. Your dedication, energy, ideas and selflessness are truly amazing. It was a pleasure working with each of you. As a final word, “Life is short so live today as if it were your last. Give thanks every day for what you have and never forget to tell someone you love them. For it may be the last time you see them.” I salute you all, the S.U. Lab Class of 1990. Sincerely,

Margolyn N. Davis Margolyn N. Davis 25th Reunion Coordinator

“those future days” By Larry J. Knight, Jr. these days won’t last forever.

now, we think of friendship and knowledge, we think of time seemingly slowing to stillness only to move faster in the end;

instead we cherish them, keep them close; we remember the hours, recall standing at the base staring at a summit of years— dreading the climb; in our minds we rekindle fire nurtured during the journey, how we cradled its flame, forgetting our arrival.

we think of yesterday, foreshadowed moments etched into our dreams; we think of where we will be when these days fade from view, when only memories sustain us;

together we stood, feet at a precipice, eyes fixed on the horizon.

in that moment, in that future, we remember our bond, how we charted paths together—

as we left, as we embarked upon the wider trail we reflect on those days;

we remember the moment we were pushed gently to fly in endless skies.

“The Empty Chair” By Jill Eisnaugle We gather here, a class once more To reminiscence, like years before Upon the days and joys we knew Before our school-aged time was through Yet, as we meet, with memories near We think of those, always held dear— Our friends and classmates, passed away To be with God, every school day. They sit at desks, resting on clouds Surrounded by angelic crowds Where they shall be forevermore The friends and schoolmates we adore They’ll be with us in every prayer Until the day, we join them there Within the walls of Heaven’s class Where friendships formed shall always last. Until that hour, we join again An empty chair, we will maintain In honor of the life-long bond We forged with those, now passed beyond The friends with whom we learned life’s truth Whose bonds lasted far from our youth And shall remain forever near When we gather, year after year. © 2006| Jill Eisnaugle’s Poetry Collection
