unter Douglas spoke to four top interior designers from different parts of the country: Martyn Lawrence Bullard in Los Angeles, Martha Angus in San Francisco, John Phifer Marrs in Dallas and Fawn Galli in New York to make their “What’s In, What’s Out for 2015” list. Live smart. Martyn Lawrence Bullard in Los Angeles says how important the “smart” home is, with everything from the ability to pre-set the water temperature in the kitchen sink to tracking expiration dates on your highly perishable foods through your refrigerator. Also, automatically positioning window shades for privacy, security, and various design and lighting effects, as seen with the Hunter Douglas Platinum™ App. Punch up with color. On opposite sides of the country, Martha Angus in San Francisco and Fawn Galli in New York agree that bold colors are most affective when used in small doses against gently hued backgrounds. Galli often uses bold hues as “electric accents” for chair upholstery and pillows, not on walls. Terrific textures. Another area the designers mentioned as important for the coming year was texture. Galli gravitates toward wallpapers with “enigmatic patterns pulsing with energy and color,” as well as “faux fur for everything from upholstery to wall coverings. It’s so advanced and cozy, much better than the real thing.” It’s all about you. Personalizing one’s home has never been as important as it will be in 2015. All the designers are adamant about mixing furniture styles too. Bullard says, “People are moving back to buying antiques, and mixing them with pieces from other eras.”

BOHEMIAN Decorating?
Y
ou’ve probably heard of the term “bohemian-style” before, however you might not be completely sure about how to define it. What makes something bohemian, and how can you apply this popular way to decorate in your own home? People who take a bohemian approach to decorating are people who want their homes full of life, culture, and interesting items for everyone to enjoy. In essence, a bohemian room should look like it’s been furnished over decades of globetrotting and a lifetime of collecting and scavenging.
