Decorating Taste Test Determine Your Style with A Few Quick Questions

D

oes your home reflect you? Many of us are at a loss when it comes to decorating our home and deciding which colors, fabrics and furniture to use. To help solve this problem, Sally Morse, Director of Creative Services for Hunter Douglas, devised a “Decorating Taste Test” inspired by Meredith’s New Decorating Book. So pick up a pencil, sit yourself down, and answer the following questions: 1. What architectural style is your dream house? a. A restored townhouse with beautiful architectural detailing. b. A thatched roof cottage surrounded by trees and flowers fronting a sylvan pond. c. A penthouse loft with few interior walls, high ceilings and lots of windows. 2. Great grandma bequeathed you an old-fashioned trestle table, the perfect size for dining. What do you choose for seating? a. Chairs from the same era, made of the same wood. b. Dissimilar wood chairs painted a single color. c. Mid-century modern Harry Bertoia metal chairs. 3. The colors you love to surround yourself with bring to mind: a. Favorite jewelry. b. Your flower garden. c. The beach. 4. When hosting a dinner party you set the table with: a. Formal china that’s been in your family for generations, the good silver and white tapers. b. Pottery collected over the years and glass hurricane lamps with pillar candles matching the colorful linens.

14

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

c. Translucent, white china plates, small, rock crystal vases, each sprouting a single purple zinnia marching down the center of the table, and vintage, pearl-handled flatware. Traditional. If you answered mostly “a,” you have a great appreciation for the past, formality, and prefer one definite style over many. At the windows you might keep the treatment simple to draw attention to the furniture with Hunter Douglas Silhouette® shadings with the Signature S-Vane™. Comfortably casual. If you answered mostly “b,” you like furnishings that beckon, sink-into chairs and sofas dressed in solid or boldly patterned fabrics that don’t show wear and tear. Interiors in the comfortably casual mode would look well with Heritance® hardwood shutters crafted with dovetail construction for maximum strength and durability. Simple with a spark. If you answered mostly “c,” you like a sophisticated, refined look sparked with something unexpected, a Victorian papier-mâché chair in a modern setting, for example. One recommended window treatment is the state-of-the-art, Duette® Architella® honeycomb shades from Hunter Douglas with a highly energy efficient cellwithin-a-cell construction. One-of-a-kind. If your answers vary, it probably means you like and are knowledgeable about a variety of design periods and styles and refuse to be limited to just one. Window dressings such as Alustra® Woven Textures®, also from Hunter Douglas are a great accent, artfully blending unique fibers and sophisticated design into distinctive light-filtering fabrics, they’re available in opaque, semi opaque, sheer and semi-sheer opacities. To see a variety of different Hunter Douglas products, you can visit Don’s Drapery Service, Inc., an authorized Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Gallery showroom located at 1261 N. our home is your sanctuary, the place where so much of your life happens. It is important to make that space reflect your taste and lifestyle. Hiring an interior designer can be one way to ensure that happens with the least amount of stress and worry. Designers can make your dreams become a reality without missing a detail. The client featured in this article did just that. With a busy work schedule, she struggled with giving her interior the design attention she wanted in order to create the feel that she craved. That’s when she decided that professional designer Vickie Daeley was the perfect solution. She wanted an elegant and distinctive design that would reflect her personality using a color palette she loved. Vickie met with the client, listened to her hopes and aspirations for her home, and came up with a design the client adored. Using warm golden yellows and rich royal blues, Vickie created an interior that fit all of her clients needs. For the more formal entertainment areas, she used textures and silks combined with decorative trims and stately furniture for a livable yet regal design. While in the kitchen and family room, prints and patterns made for a comfortable and charming cottage feel, the kitchen had warm cream cabinets with patterned wallpaper on the walls for a touch of whimsy. The colors were carried throughout the house with each area flowing together, but holding a distinctive style all its own. Accessories were the jewelry that made this home complete. Custom area rugs, floral arrangements, lighting and more showcased the French country design and allowed the client’s personality to shine through.

ARCHITECTURAL ORNAMENTATION The Difference is in the Details hen it comes to creating a rich and elegant environment, whether indoors or out, the most significant aspects can be found in the details. When you are ready for a new look, you might not need to completely remodel an entire space from top to bottom. In fact, architectural ornamentation is one of the most convenient and successful ways to reinvent a room, cabinet, ceiling, wall or more. Architectural ornamentation can transform any ordinary bathroom into a lavish lair fit for a Greek Goddess. You can give an out dated kitchen the luxury of old world class, dramatically improving the ambiance of the heart of your home. Or, add a touch of class to your ceilings and extend some artistic beauty to all areas of the room. Exclusive modular systems allow you to pick and choose parts to create your own custom masterpiece; which simplifies the design process. Offering a rich look of wood without the high price, resin ornamentation is a superior product in many ways. Resin is flexible and can be used on radius curves, opening up design options that cannot be duplicated using traditional methods. Resin is non-porous which makes it the material of choice for external use. Resin can also be painted or stained just like wood, so you can have the exact look you desire.

It’s Time For An Upgrade How to Modify Your Old Entertainment Center Before

d

o you need to breathe some life into your existing entertainment center? Professionals can modify old furniture systems designed for analog TVs to proudly accommodate the latest flat

panel sets. How to modify an old entertainment center that was designed for a tabletop TV Tabletop TVs are extremely heavy, weighing as much as 350 pounds, and very deep, commonly 22-26". Deep TVs result in deep furniture. A temptation when upgrading these types of furniture systems is to simply set a new flat panel TV inside. However, flat TVs tend to get lost in the depth of large entertainment centers. Further, the screen of the flat panel ends up being recessed several inches from the front of the furniture, significantly reducing the viewing angle. The right way to upgrade your entertainment center takes full advantage of the new slim TVs. First, professionals will construct a false back wall to be installed in the TV section of your furniture, reducing the depth

24

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

of the TV section and preventing you from seeing through to the back of the cabinet. Second, a pullout-articulating arm is mounted to the back wall. Finally, the flat panel TV is removed from its stand and mounted to the pullout arm. How to modify an old entertainment center that was designed for a floor standing projection TV Because projection TVs are much taller than their tabletop counterparts, the retrofit is adjusted accordingly. In addition to a false back wall and bracket, these modifications include a new TV credenza. The credenza is slipped into place between the two existing towers to provide the foundation for the new flat panel TV as well as additional new storage. In most cases, the color and style of your existing furniture can be matched so the credenza looks like it was original to the system. Diamond Case is a full service electronics retailer and cabinet maker. They can provide a complete modification including the furniture, bracket, and television. They also produce new systems from scratch. To find out what it would cost to modify your furniture, you can call them toll-free at 800-616-5354 or visit www.diamondcase.com

What to Know BEFORE REMODELING enovating your kitchen and upgrading your bathroom gives your home a fresh new look, often increasing functionality, while adding to the value of your home. However, the process of choosing a remodeling company can be tiresome and stressful. With so many options available, where do you start and whom should you call? Selecting the right company can make a huge difference in the projects’ success. You want a company that will leave you with a peace of mind throughout the entire process, not to mention an end result that you are completely happy with. Here are some things to consider before tackling that kitchen or bathroom remodeling project. Local stability.: A showroom and local manufacturing plant where you can view examples of their work and get the latest trends and products that are available on the market. Experienced designers: Make sure to ask questions such as, does the company have flexibility in the products they offer, and how is the project managed throughout the remodel. Licensing: Is the company licensed with the right classification for your scope of work? How long has the company been in business? Cabinet Finish: Catalyzed conversion varnish is the most durable finish available today. Finishing should never be done in the customer’s home, or in the person’s garage, so ask to see the finishing equipment and test the durability of the finish in the manufacturer’s showroom. Removing and replacing the cabinets with newly designed and manufactured custom cabinets does have its advantages, like allowing you to

R

redesign the layout or create new interiors with adjustable shelving. Refacing existing cabinets, which means replacing the doors and drawer fronts, replacing the hinges and the molding, and covering the existing frames, is often a viable and cost efficient option. The process could include adding new drawers, slides and pullouts in the lower cabinets, and often being able to adjust some cabinets to accommodate new appliances. A combination of Refacing and Replacing offers savings while dramatically improving the look and feel of the room. The right approach to bathroom remodeling can turn a worn-out old room into a bright, spacious retreat. Custom-made bathroom vanities, cabinet replacing or refacing, granite countertops, and new tubs, showers, toilets and sinks are just some of the ways to reinvent this area of your home. Experienced designers will listen to your needs, know what questions to ask to help clarify your thoughts, and be familiar with the latest products available. They should also be comfortable working with older products that the homeowner might want to bring into the remodel. Always remember—the designer must keep in mind that everyone is different and that kitchens satisfy various needs and uses. The designer must be versatile and innovative in planning in order to accommodate your lifestyles and your budget. Reborn Cabinets has met all of the above criteria for more than 30 years. Founded in 1983, Reborn Cabinets won the prestige 2013 Remodeler of the Year award by Professional Remodeler. Located at 2981 East La Palma Ave. in Anaheim, the company features a 40,000-squarefoot, well-equipped manufacturing and showroom/design center with numerous displays and examples to enjoy—you can even take a tour or ask about their informative seminars given approximately every 6 weeks. Experienced designers are available seven days a week. You can visit and browse the showroom, or you can call Reborn Cabinets for more information at (714) 422-0602. The Continental Patio Awning Deployed

Take Back Your Backyard With Motorized Exterior Awnings

w

hen you invest in a home, you are buying more than just an interior. Think about it—if you didn’t like spending time outside enjoying the view and your beautiful surroundings, then you could have just bought a condominium. There’s a reason why you bought your beautiful home. The real question is: are you using it to its full potential? One of the main issues that might be keeping you and your family from completely utilizing your backyard is the weather. While basking in the sun for a few minutes can be nice, there quickly comes a point when it simply becomes overwhelming. What if you had the luxury to spend time outside whenever you want, whether it’s day or night, and always feel comfortable? Retractable shading systems allow you to finally take control of your backyard. Enhance your outdoor living experience by creating the functional space you have always wanted. One of the best features of innovative motorized awnings is that they don’t change the look of your home. Instead, they can enhance your backyard by adding color, more versatility and creating a new usable space. When an awning is retractable, you can have shade when you need it and sun when you want it. Therefore, depending on the weather and your needs, the control is totally in your hands!

32

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

The Continental Patio Awning Retracted

An awning can be either deployed or retracted. While deployed, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your outdoor surroundings in comfort while being protected from the sun and other natural elements based on the system you choose. Watch the kids play in the pool and enjoy your backyard in the shade without worrying about getting too much sun. Relax by your outdoor fire pit at night and soak in the ambiance of your stunning landscape in the moonlight. When an awning is retracted, it disappears from sight and doesn’t change the look of your exterior décor. Essentially, a retractable shade system helps protect both you and your home at all times. When retracted, you can help protect your investment. Invest in your outdoor living spaces, reclaim your space and start appreciating every aspect that your backyard has to offer. For more information about high-quality awnings and other systems, you can contact Alpha Productions, Inc. at 800-223-0883 or visit them at www.alphaproductions.com. This is a great way to naturally illuminate work or living areas while cutting back on power consumption. Ventilation. During the summer months, a place in the shade is where you want to be. Keep Your Home Safe from Termites

S

ubterranean and drywood termites cause billions of dollars in damages each year in the United States. Unfortunately to homeowners, termites can go undetected for years and cause significant structural damage. Subterranean Termites. These are the most widespread and destructive type of termites. Because they need a moist environment to survive, these termites typically live underground in the soil. These infestations require soil treatment and removal of any conditions that make your home conducive to infestations. Upon a complete termite inspection of your home, your inspector will advise you of any conditions that make your home vulnerable to current or future subterranean termite infestations. Drywood Termites. When a colony of drywood termites invades your home, the damage can quickly eat up your home equity. Treatment methods can vary based upon the extent or location of the infestation. Local or spot treatment is recommended for minor and easily accessible infestations and you are not required to vacate your home. An insecticide is injected into the channels that the termites have created or requires mixing a foaming agent with the insecticide to fill a void area. Using natural insecticide/fungicide products with sodium borate is ideal for local treatment of drywood termites as it kills the termites on contact and penetrates into the wood, leaving a borate crystal barrier behind serving as a wood preservative and future barrier to termites. Sodium borate is a natural mineral used for many commercial household uses such as water softening, laundry detergent, and candles.

36

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

When a drywood termite infestation has extended into inaccessible areas, the only method to ensure 100% elimination of drywood termites is whole-structure fumigation. The fumigation process is a gas that fills the structure, and then slowly dissipates during the aeration process. When the tarp is removed, there is no surface residue left behind. Similar to helium leaving a balloon, you don’t have to worry about dishes, linens, clothing, or other items afterward. Although this method requires preparation and vacating the home, you can return with confidence that the termites have been eradicated. An annual maintenance plan can provide homeowners with the peace of mind that a trained professional will be inspecting their house annually and treating any early indications of termites. Annual maintenance plans can slow down the progression of termites into inaccessible areas that require costly fumigation and wood repairs. In addition to treating termite conditions, homeowners must correct damaged wood to prevent termites from easily returning to the structure. A-1 Bonded Termite, Inc. is family-owned and has been serving the community for over 30 years. Their knowledgeable termite inspectors are not paid on commission ensuring customers will not be oversold. On staff expert carpenters will repair your home with attention to detail and commitment to excellence. Why Switch to Pavers?

w

hen you pull into your driveway, are you greeted by cracked, tired, and discolored concrete? Even if this is the case, you might not want to replace anything due to fear of the same concrete problems down the road. Luckily, there is a perfect solution. Interlocking concrete pavers are becoming one of the most popular driveway, walkway, and patio solutions in Orange County. These interlocking systems provide gorgeous aesthetics while removing all the downfalls of standard concrete. When that next earthquake rolls around, you won’t have to worry about coming outside to see that another crack has formed in your patio or driveway. Pavers don’t crack and are guaranteed for life that they never will. And, with current turf removal programs offering incentives to change out water dependent areas, the time has never been better to cash in on the savings and make the switch to pavers or artificial grass.

38

Perhaps you are also concerned about unexpected access to utilities underground, along with stains and discoloration. These are all a thing of the past with pavers, which can be cleaned or replaced individually. If you need access under your driveway or patio, pavers can be removed to allow for access and reinstalled with no sign of disturbance. So, how are they installed? First, your existing hardscape must be demoed and removed. Depending on soil conditions, a geo textile fabric may be used next to assist with keeping the sub soil from mixing with the base. Next, four-to-six inches of class II road base is installed and compacted two-to-three inches at a time for a full compaction, and a one-inch layer of bedding sand is perfectly leveled before the pavers are installed on top. A compaction is done to allow the bedding sand to work its way between the joints. Joint sand is then installed over the entire paver field, followed by another compaction to give the pavers interlock. Finally, the area is cleaned and an optional sealer can be applied. For more information, you can call Pacific Pavers at 714-718-3970 or visit their website at www.pacific-pavers.com.

Cadette Window

Awning Retracted

Retractable Awning uropeans have been using the drop arm awning for over five decades. Retractable exterior window awnings are the most versatile product on the market today to create shade while maintaining a view, create privacy without installing vertical interior blinds, and of course, to keep the heat out while you’re away from home. The Cadette (drop arm) retractable window awning is a superb solution to creating shade, privacy, and climate control in just about any room of the home. The mechanical concept is quite simple. A roller tube wrapped with fabric sits inside an aluminum housing and has two arms—one on each side of the window. The arms have springs in order to create tension so that the fabric always looks nice and tight, and also so that the wind does not lift them up and down too much. The arms pivot downward all the way to 120degrees, allowing the user to stop the awning arms at any desired position. At 45-degrees deployed, you can still see children playing in the backyard through your kitchen window while keeping the sun out. As the sun’s angle changes, you can deploy the awning further down to 90-degrees, but again still enjoy ambient light coming in from the sides without feeling like you are caged inside of your kitchen. In the bathroom, because many corner tubs have beautiful views, shading the windows from the outside not only controls the intense light but also creates privacy when needed. Yet, the most impactful location for Cadette retractable awnings are bedroom windows, especially second floor windows facing west. By keeping the sun from touching the glass or window all day you essentially eliminate the heat gain entering the room. For more information about high-quality awnings and other systems, you can contact Alpha Productions, Inc. at 800-223-0883 or visit them at www.alphaproductions.com. Alpha Productions have been manufacturing in the U.S.A. since 1978. They design, manufacture and install all of their own systems. Your Barbeque Shined Like New?

T

here is nothing better than a home cooked meal on the grill, especially when the weather starts to warm up and it’s hard not to take the food and entertaining outdoors. However, if you have recently found yourself staring at that dirty barbeque, wondering whether or not it’s even safe to cook on, you are definitely not alone. Eventually, all barbeques start to accumulate grime and grease, no matter how hard you scrub it. Both the grill and the exterior of a barbeque will inevitably lose that like-new luster, and this can happen fairly quickly if you are a regular griller. If you just can’t seem to get things clean, then the time has come to call the professionals for a barbeque makeover. Using a professional-grade steam cleaner, your barbeque will be sanitized with a deep cleaning that helps clear any stubborn grease and residue from your burners. This ensures an even flame as well as enhanced grill performance, completely eliminating hot spots. A professionally cleaned barbeque will not only extend the life of your unit, it will also ensure that your grilled favorites cook better and taste fresher. Additionally, your rejuvenated barbeque will be able to prevent rust, as well as ash, soot, and grease build-up. Keep your backyard looking beautiful and your food tasting delicious!

Simple Solution to the

A

s many as 44 million Americans suffer from a real killer: obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA. “Obstructive sleep apnea triggers heart attacks, strokes and other serious events,” explains Dr. Jack Ringer, an Accredited Member and Past President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. “Sleep apnea is also linked to ongoing weight gain and retention, which begins to explain a lot.” During the course of normal sleep our metabolism naturally resets itself, allowing us to burn calories efficiently. When sleep apnea is present, this automatic reset process doesn’t occur and weight is retained. Those extra pounds lead to increased cortisol and further weight gains, and increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and other serious problems. “It’s a vicious cycle—extra weight leads to exacerbated sleep apnea,” Dr. Ringer says, “which all too often leads to ‘passing away peacefully during sleep.’ There’s no good reason for that to happen, really, other than an event triggered by obstructive sleep apnea.” Traditionally, patients who report common sleep apnea symptoms to their physicians such as morning headaches, daytime sleepiness and loud snoring are sent to an overnight sleep study center, where their sleep is monitored. They are often then prescribed a CPAP, or a continuous positive airway pressure machine, which works by forcing air through the nose and/or mouth, similar to increasing the water pressure on a kinked water hose in order to un-kink a blockage. While a CPAP can work quite well, studies find that in it has not been as effective as physicians believe it should be, because patients simply cannot tolerate it. Dr. Ringer explains

46

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

that due to the discomfort of use, resupply bills, ongoing cleaning and high-energy usage, up to 90% of patients stop using their CPAP within one year. Thankfully, an effective dental appliance is now available: a mandibular advancement device, or MAD. “After researching the available MADs on the market, I chose the best option for my patients and have delivered it for the past few years with incredible success,” Dr. Ringer reports. At Dr. Ringer’s office, after a sleep study has been prescribed and completed, diagnosed sleep apnea patients can choose to be fitted with a customized, comfortable dental appliance that simply and painlessly opens the airway, rather than endure the discomfort of the traditional CPAP. Patients report using their appliances nightly with no issues and with no ongoing maintenance or supply and energy bills. Plus, MADs travel easily so patients are no longer tethered to an electrical cord. Even better—most health insurance companies often cover the dental appliance. “We have treated over 300 patients so far,” says Dr. Ringer. “On a weekly basis, patients stop by to tell us about headaches gone, or extra weight just melting away. We love that, of course, but what we really care about is helping to save lives.” Dr. Jack Ringer has been practicing in Orange County for over 30 years. Reshape Your Body in 20 Minutes! By John Colman

When Diane Rand reached age 50, she got concerned that her weight was slowly creeping higher and her clothes were feeling too tight. As a practicing physician in San Diego, she knew the diagnosis. “Your muscles atrophy as you age, and this slows down the metabolism,” says Rand. “I knew it would keep getting worse if I didn’t correct it.” The antidote? Effective weight training. But, she’d never lifted weights before. Plus, her fulltime job as a physician as well as her family life left little time in her schedule for exercise. Fortunately, Diane read an article about “slow-motion” strength training, a revolutionary new exercise method promising a firmer, stronger, more shapely body from just two 20-minute training sessions per week. Even though the time efficiency and results sounded almost too good to be true, she decided to enroll with a personal trainer at The Perfect Workout, a local company with dozens of private fitness studios specializing in this unique approach. Right away she noticed immediate increases in her muscle tone and energy. After several months she’d also dropped one to two clothing sizes and was fitting into clothes which used to be too small. “My trainer pushes me in a safe way, and I walk away feeling great after each session,” says Diane. “This is the wave of the future.”

Lean Muscles—The Key To Reshaping Your Body The Perfect Workout’s trainers encourage clients to build lean muscle tissue, which increases the body’s metabolism, burning extra calories even while you’re sleeping. Many people—especially women—have a fear of “bulking up” like a

bodybuilder if they were to start strength training. In reality, if you’re older than 25, it’s much more likely that too little muscle is the problem rather than too much muscle. In their book Biomarkers: The 10 Keys to Prolonging Vitality , William Evans, Ph.D., and Irwin Rosenberg, M.D., show the research demonstrating that adults who don’t strength train lose an average of a half pound of lean muscle tissue each year starting at age 25. As an example, a typical 55-year-old woman will have 15 pounds less lean muscle (and significantly more fat) than what she had at age 25. Muscle takes up less space than fat, so this typical

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

55-year-old woman has arms and thighs that are softer and less firm, wears a larger clothing size, and has a slower metabolism that burns fewer calories each day. Effective strength training changes all of this. It increases your body’s metabolism, causing you to burn more fat and calories all day long. Strength training reshapes and tones your legs and arms. And since muscle takes up 20% less space than fat, adding muscle and losing fat will make your body firmer, smaller, and more shapely. A fit 140-pound person can wear clothes several sizes smaller than an out of shape 140-pound person. ONLINE AT ORANGECOUNTYLIVINGMAGAZINE.COM

healthbeautyfitness How Can Slow-Motion Strength Training Work So Quickly? Slow-motion strength training involves brief and demanding workouts to get great results. The basic concept? Lift relatively heavy weights excruciatingly slowly (10 seconds to lift, another 10 seconds to lower) for as many repetitions as you can until you’re unable to move the weights anymore. And when you learn to challenge your muscles as deeply as a skilled trainer can teach, it’s impossible to workout much longer than 20 minutes, even if you try. Dr. Philip Alexander, physician and faculty member at Texas A&M University’s College of Medicine, explains that it’s the intensity of exercise that stimulates greatest changes. “A slower repetition loads the muscles more effectively and efficiently. It’s harder!” exclaims Alexander. “That’s why it stimulates such a great total response from the body.” Dr. Alexander has tracked hundreds of subjects using slow-motion strength training, noting significant improvements in muscular strength, HDL cholesterol profiles, bone density, and glucose tolerance. Other research adds more supporting data. Two separate studies by Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., and one study by Ellington Darden, Ph.D., demonstrate that slow-motion strength training produces 50% to 59% faster improvements than regular weight training. And because the repetitions are harder, each training session must be limited to 20 minutes—making this exercise method quite time efficient.

In 3 months Justin Brunette dropped 4 inches from his waist and lowered his body fat percentage by 6.4% with effective nutrition and weekly 20-minute training sessions at The Perfect Workout.

Joyce Reclaims Her Youthful Figure 54-year-old Joyce Magnuson had always been slim and slender when she was younger. But in her mid 40s, life’s stresses caught up with her and she began gaining weight. “During the next few years, I kept getting heavier, until I was thoroughly broken and disgusted with myself,” says Joyce. Fortunately, she happened to read an article about slow-motion strength training and how it would reshape her body with just two 20-minute training sessions per week. The effectiveness of the method made sense to Joyce, and she decided to enroll with a personal trainer at The Perfect Workout. ONLINE AT ORANGECOUNTYLIVINGMAGAZINE.COM

In 3 months Laura Retana Shelp lost 23.4 pounds and 10½ inches off her waist with improved nutrition and two 20-minute training sessions a week at The Perfect Workout. After five months of combining an effective nutrition plan with two 20minute training sessions each week, not only had she gotten stronger, she’d lost 43 pounds and dropped from a size 16 to a size 10. She was also able to get completely off the blood pressure medications that she’d previously needed to take. She adds, “The perk is looking good in the current styles. Even Macy’s keeps me motivated to stay fit!”

The Perfect Workout has dozens of private studios throughout the United States that specialize in one-on-one personal training with the slow-motion strength training method, including these Orange County locations: Newport Beach (949) 2004067, Huntington Beach (714) 460-5207, Laguna Niguel (949) 485-6000, Mission Viejo (949) 424-1021, Anaheim Hills (714) 400-9319, and Tustin (714) 599-9051. www.ThePerfectWorkout.com
