Collecting art can be something that brings joy to one’s life, and the feeling of falling in love with a work of art should be the same whether you are spending $10,000 or $100. With half of the work priced under $5,000 and many works under $1,000, in addition to quality programming and kids' workshops, there truly is something for everyone at the Fair. In 1999, the first Affordable Art Fair was held in London, and is now taking place in eleven cities around the world. Since it began, the Fair has since welcomed over one million visitors. We are honored to host an Exclusive Benefit Reception for Free Arts for Abused Children, and will be donating 100% of the ticket proceeds from the event. In 2010, Free Arts for Abused Children reached nearly 30,000 children in foster care who are homeless, and/or at-risk due to poverty, substance abuse, and community violence. We at the Affordable Art Fair L.A. want to help them

Dedicated to supporting new art collectors and engaging curious visitors, we also incorporate educational and interactive programming into our event. With the Affordable Art Fair’s variety of special programming such as artxwomen, a special section of galleries exhibiting only female artists curated by Accola Griefen Gallery; artist and curator talks sponsored by ArtStar.com; educational presentations on printmaking by Edition One Hundred; the Recent Graduates exhibition curated by Melanie Edmunds of M. Edmunds Associates; talks and a mural installation by ThinkSpace Gallery; an open artist studio with C.A.V.E gallery; and fun, hands-on activities in our children’s booth hosted by LittleCollector.com, you’ll find it hard to leave! All programs at the Fair are free with admission, and are not exclusive to VIPs – they are for all our visitors. We look forward to many editions of the Affordable Art Fair Los Angeles, and hope you will enjoy visiting our inaugural edition and exploring affordable art you can own! Warm regards,

Judith Pineiro Director Affordable Art Fair US

Speaking to galleries and artists at the Fair gives you that insider chance to learn more about what you are looking at! You’ll find our exhibitors and staff are happy to talk and help you.

Try to envision what a work will look like in your home or office. Choosing to buy a work of art is a personal decision made with the heart, but it is fine to consider the size of the wall you see it hanging on.

Affordable means something different to everyone. There are many works here at varying levels. Many galleries can offer an installment plan, take credit cards, or maybe if you ask you’ll find the artist you love has an unframed work or print that is more within your budget.

It isn’t speed dating! You can take your time, walk the whole fair, have a cup of coffee, and go back to the gallery. Also, exhibitors can give you a readmission pass to come back after you measure that wall again – just don’t be surprised if the work is already sold the next day.

Enjoy yourself!

They have travelled to some of the world’s most important spots, among them Moscow’s Red Square (1999), the Great Wall of China (2001), the Pyramids of Giza (2002) and even Antarctica (2008). Created by husband and wife sculpture duo Joan Benefiel and Jeremy Leichman of Figuration Studio’s Pilings Project, part of this major NYC public art installation has arrived in L.A.! These limited edition sculptures are suitable for both indoor and outdoor display, and customizable to any height.

DABS MYLA Just Breathe, 2011 Spray paint and acrylic 12 x 56 ft Courtesy of Thinkspace Gallery, Booth B-9 Lately DABS MYLA have been working with more repetitive images which fade and change each layer – like moments or days that fade into each other but still can be distinguished by small differences. Airom, Jim Holyoak, Alex Schaeffer, Julia Schwartz, Gay Summer Rick, Douglas Alvarez and others Micro Gestalt, 2006 – present Mixed media on canvas and wood 3 x 3 in – 6 x 6 in Courtesy of Bleicher Gallery, C-6 In Micro Gestalt, the artist Airom groups individual artworks together based on simple gestalt principles of proximity and color to create a pulsating color spectrum. The artist collaborates by incorporating new works by other artists into the installation, creating an organic, constantly changing work. MakerBot Industries, 2012 Art Producing Robot A MakerBot is an affordable, open-source 3D printer that can make almost anything with ABS and PLA (biodegradable) plastic. MakerBot Industries was named one of the top 20 start-ups in NYC, and has been featured in The New York Times, Wired, The Colbert Report, Engadget, Make: Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Time.com, IEEE Spectrum, CNN, Financial Times, NPR, The Economist, and others. The MakerBot installation at Affordable Art Fair Los Angeles will be the West Coast premiere of a bold new MakerBot allowing for larger, higher resolution 3D artwork. www.makerbot.com

Kira Greene Trout Almondine, 2008 Oil on canvas 60 x 60 in Courtesy of Accola Griefen, Booth B-15 Kira Greene’s paintings and drawings negotiate the duality and dichotomy of her existence as an Asian immigrant woman in America. As a feminist, she is repulsed by the objectification of female bodies in art history and popular culture, yet she finds herself strongly attracted to the sensuality of these images. This paradox has led her to combine the rigidity of patterns with the imagery of desire in the female body. In her most recent work, she replaces the body with images of lusciously styled food, while heightening the complexity with a mixture of patterns and icons derived from various Western and Eastern sources.

Worldwide

Since its founding in 1999, the Fair's mission has been to demystify the art-buying experience, making it both welcoming and fun. This year alone, 155,000 art-lovers have visited an Affordable Art Fair and seen work exhibited by more than1,000 galleries – more than any other art fair in the world. Now a global brand, the Fair takes place in Amsterdam, Bristol, Brussels, London, Los Angeles, Milan, New York and Singapore, with an affiliate event in Melbourne. The brand continues to expand with new fairs in New Delhi, Hamburg, Rome, and Stockholm confirmed for 2012.

Where some see only art, we see art and risk. Risk can come at you from many directions. When it comes to managing risks associated with fine art and valuable objects, no company has greater combined experience, knowledge and capabilities than Travelers. We offer underwriting, risk control and claims services specifically designed for the Fine Art business. For coverage that is in-synch with your collection and business, ask your local independent insurance agent about Travelers Fine Art coverage. Because in the art world, risk can turn up where you least expect it.
