4 - Donna Supports Head We are proud to announce that Afford has partnered with the Western Sydney Wanderers for the 2017/18 A-League season! There are many synergies in our partnership with WSW – we share vibrant cultures, celebrate diversity, and exist to uplift and support communities across Western Sydney. Many clients are very excited to hear of the partnership, including Marco from Oran Park, who was one of Afford’s Sporting Legends present at the announcement. The partnership will enable Afford clients to connect with Wanderers players and Powerchair players, attend matches and take part in clinics throughout the year. Western Sydney Wanderers CEO, John Tsatsimas, says he is looking forward to working closely with Afford to raise awareness about our work in the community. “The Western Sydney Wanderers are an inclusive club that represent everyone in the Western Sydney community,” said Tsatsimas. “We are looking forward to supporting Afford and advocating the work they do and thank them for their support.” We look forward to working with WSW on joint projects and initiatives that foster inclusion across Western Sydney. Talk about participants reaching goals!

TTW Think Cops are Tops On Wednesday, TTW trainees were delighted to receive a visit from Senior Constable Julie Graham from the Police Crime Management Unit at Penrith.
Laura Peterson
Customer Care Manager South West Favourite Song: Love Man – Otis Redding. Favourite Movie: Keeping the Faith. Favourite Hobbies: Bush walking, scrapbooking, relaxing. Favourite Foods: Fruit, cheese and anything sweet. If you could be an animal what would you be: A dolphin. What is your dream holiday destination: Anywhere with a good mix of adventure and relaxation. If you had the power what would you change about the world: I would make it IMPOSSIBLE to hurt another living creature. What is the nicest thing someone has ever done for you: Too many things to mention… I am very lucky! If you had to teach something what would you teach: Floristry. Something no one knows about me: Pretty sure I am an open book.
During her visit she spoke to the trainees about a range of topics including the laws we have in Australia and offered tips on how to stay safe in the community and at home. The aim of the visit was to build on trainees’ understanding of safe practices and self-awareness, as well as the consequences of illegal behaviour. Like for all youth, Cyber-safety and awareness were high on the agenda and the trainees were tested on how to spot a scam or suspicious behaviour online. Brave trainee, Sarah Ellick, was all too excited to volunteer to be handcuffed, and all trainees walked away from the days with an informative goodie-bag to remember their trip by. Thanks to Penrith Police for their hospitality on the day.
A Boogie at Blacktown Afford Board Member, Ange Humphries, was thrilled to bump into a group of clients enjoying the Tom Jones concert at Blacktown Workers Club last week. The group shared some laughs, photos, and most importantly killer dance moves. It was a fabulous night!

The Belmore Blokes' Secret Men's Business The men at Belmore have voiced their ideas, and in true Afford fashion, staff have turned clients’ ideas into actions. Belmore is excited to launch a new ‘Men’s Day’ program, where male clients get together to chat about ‘men’s business’ and enjoy a bloke-y afternoon with mates. This week, Men’s Day was filled with pool, a pub lunch and laser tag. The Belmore Blokes can look forward to new “No Girls Allowed” activities every Friday, with the program a regular inclusion. The aim of the program is to foster a sense of mateship and promote mental wellness by linking the guys up with peers they can talk openly to. After all, girls can’t have all the fun!
When You Try your Best, But You DO Succeed! Supported Employee, Tyler Griffiths, from Marrickville ADE has typically shied away from the more difficult tasks in the factory – like precise labelling. Until now that is! With the right support, and opportunity, he has become one of the most enthusiastic workers at site. He regularly completes full days of work without a single error and after building confidence in a task, requires little assistance to complete jobs. Tyler’s incredible progress has brought so much joy to his peers and staff at Marrickville ADE. Keep it up, Tyler!

Donna Supports Head Office Staff
OF
As the largest employer of people with disability in Sydney, Afford is a market leader committed to an Employment Strategy that celebrates our Supported Workforce. At Afford, we are actively seeking employment opportunities for people with disability outside of conventional supported employee roles in our ADEs. As a result, we are proud to announce a commitment to a KPI target of 8% employment of people with disability in 'able-bodied' roles across Afford. This target will be reviewed annually and is another way Afford ensures we live out our mission day-to-day. We are already starting to see the wonderful impacts of this initiative at Head Office, where Accommodation resident, Donna, is not only excited to move into her new Group Home in 6 weeks but also has new job . Donna has started as an Office Hand while she is supported to develop her skills in the workplace. Here she is putting away the latest shipment of Afford polo shirts. Happy to have you, Donna!
