Residents receive person-centred supports to ensure they live the life they want, on their terms. At the Butterflies home, the ladies who recently moved into their new home are celebrating their new start. They now join the other residents to go out shopping for groceries, take part in social gatherings organised by residents and more. At the Panthers home, residents are developing their technology skills by learning how to use iPads. John has learnt how to take photos and is now learning how to load them onto Facebook so that he can share all his new experiences with his family and friends. Staying connected with family is another focus of support for residents. Lifestyle Assistants encourage residents to connect with family regularly and make time to keep up to date with family activities. Residents enjoy the freedom to live life how they want and when they want, and can trust Afford to provide the support they need to achieve their personal goals and happiness.

Kirk’s Green Thumb While out on community access, Kirk, from Belmore Lifestyle Centre, decided to buy some strawberry seeds to plant. When he returned to the centre, Kirk filled a pot with soil and then planted his seeds. He then watered them and put them on the kitchen window where the sun shines through. Kirk was very excited to plant the seeds. He waters the plant every second day without fail. Kirk, as well as everyone at Belmore Lifestyle Centre, can‘t wait for the seedlings to sprout and for the plant to grow and start producing strawberries. Kirk is super excited to see the delicious results of his planting and is keen to share his strawberries with his peers. Berry good job, Kirk!

Children’s Services A Ray of Sunshine

Afford is successfully moving into children’s services, with the Windsor program now in full swing and supporting its first client. Tim has recently joined Afford’s children’s services and has just been the perfect ray of sunshine. Since joining, Timothy has become involved in swimming, bowling, bush walking and visiting Flip Out, amongst other things. He is such a pleasure to be around and Afford staff are ready and keen to work with him to meet his personal life goals and the needs of his family. Afford has experienced significant growth over the past 12 months and we continue to move forward to expand services in more communities, to help more people. Afford is truly a one-stop for all disability supports and our whole-of-life approach makes us a trusted service provider for many families and individuals.
