CARER CONNECTIONS Edition 41 - November 2021

ESCAPE TO ULLADULLA Residents of our Billabong and Rainbow Supported Accommodation, Brett, Bruce, Colin, Mark and Michael, recently hit the road for an Afford Getaway to Ulladulla. The trip was the first Getaway since the lifting of NSW’s COVID-19 lockdown and it did not disappoint. The men and their lifestyle assistants enjoyed adventure, relaxation and met some furry friends during their picturesque coastal escape. “It was such a breath of fresh air for the guys to have some time away and new experiences. They started thinking about booking an Afford Getaway once we knew restrictions were easing and then they booked it as soon as they could,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Lucy Mattingley. The crew headed down the coast on November 1st with three days of fun ahead of them, spirits were high. Their accommodation was 3-minutes from the beachside and once they settled in, they realised that their neighbours would be free-roaming kangaroo’s. The main event was visiting Mogo Wildlife Park, where our clients got to see animals of all shapes and sizes. Mogo Wildlife Park has panda’s, meerkats, camels, rhinos and big cat species, including the kings of the jungle, lions. “Their favourite part of the trip would be between Mogo Wildlife Park, Funland Arcade and the food. Our guys are big foodies, so we did a mixture of eating out and cooking. My favourite part was seeing them have fun together,” continued Lucy. Brett and Colin also celebrated their birthdays on the trip, so of course, cake had to be shared. The bumper cars were a big hit at Funland and they carried on the friendly competition at the mini-golf in Bungalow Park. “Getting to share these moments and be so involved in their lives is very special. They all had such a great time. They went home very happy but very tired. Even Bruce, who can be a hard egg to crack, said he had a great week,” said Lucy. CARER CONNECTIONS Edition 41

REDLAND BAY SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION NOW OPEN! We are proud to announce that our new short term accommodation in Queensland’s Redland Bay is now ready to welcome your loved ones! As our lives start to get busier with the upcoming holiday period, a stay at Redland Bay is the perfect opportunity for you to take advantage of the weekend or book a week away while your loved one is taken care of. The team celebrated the new site with an open day during October. We were introduced to the local community and met many new faces. To pay respects to the land’s traditional owners, the Quandamooka Peoples, Josh, a representative of the Quandamooka Council, attended the opening day and performed a traditional smoking ceremony. “The ceremony wards off negativity and also blesses the home. It promoted positive new beginnings and was a great experience,” shared Customer Care Manager, Carolyn Johnston. Josh also shared some traditional stories from the Quandamooka culture, which has existed for at least 25,000 years. Deputy Mayor Councillor for Division Six, Julie Talty, also attended the open day as well as existing client and members of the local community. “I kept saying I would like to stay there. It’s furnished beautifully and in a great location. This respite is full of promise,” continued Carolyn. The new Redland Bay Short Term Accommodation is wheelchair accessible with five bedrooms, two living rooms and a resort-style pool in the backyard. As the weather heats up, clients will be able to catch some rays and cool off in the pool. Our short term accommodation services are an excellent opportunity for you to take some time out while your loved ones relax in our fully staffed and comfortable homes.
