AFFORD GOES LIVE ON CHANNEL 10
Our Day Program clients had an extra special visit to the Cherrywood Friendship Farm in April, where they were joined by the TV crew from Studio 10, who filmed a live segment for their morning show. It was an early start for our clients at the Cherrywood Friendship Farm, but the misty morning was soon illuminated by the bright smiles of our clients who were very excited to be at the farm and have their moment to shine on live television. For several years, Afford has partnered with Bushbred Horse Assisted Learning Programs to deliver meaningful sensory experiences for clients to help them develop skills and learn more about the world around them. Executive Manager for NSW & VIC Day Programs, Wayne Adamson, took on the role of spokesperson for the day and spoke with Studio 10 reporter Daniel Doody about the importance of the animal therapy program and how it assists our clients. “Our client’s smiles are infectious when they come out here to Llandilo. The energy, passion and enthusiasm they bring is what makes our jobs amazing… you cannot replicate that,” said Wayne. The clients were thrilled to have the TV crew there on the day and were even given VIP access to the broadcasting van where they got to see a replay of their live cross. As always, they also enjoyed their animal interactions, cooking on the fire and the bushman art program throughout the day. “I was so proud of how well the clients adapted to the changes and directions of the TV crew,” said Lifestyle Assistant from Cherrywood Day Program, Daniel Betts. Many Affordians worked behind the scenes to coordinate the day and make sure clients felt at ease with the cameras, animals and overall experience. This invaluable PR opportunity was organised by Maria Crema, who said, “TV coverage like this is worth tens of thousands of dollars, but I was able to secure this national television exposure for free.” Well done superstars!

ENTERING LEAVE IN NAV EXPRESS! Our new intranet system, Afford Central, makes it easier than ever to enter your leave into NAV Express. Your leave requests must be updated and approved to ensure that you are paid correctly.
The new process for entering your leave in NAV express involves: 1. Open Afford central through the Afford Server. 2. Scroll downwards on the homepage, then click on either ‘NAV express for staff’ or ‘NAV express for supervisors.’ You will be prompted to log in and then redirected to the homepage. 3. On the homepage, click on the button on the left-hand side that reads ‘Apply for leave.’ 4. Here you will be prompted to fill in the details of your required leave including: date, time, absence code and description. 5. Above this, there is a tab next to ‘Home’ labelled ‘Actions’ where you can upload an attachment such as a medical certificate if it is necessary. 6. Once you have entered your information, press ‘Finish,’ and the information will be sent to your manager for approval. Ensure that you select the right ‘absence code’ when entering your leave (such as annual leave, personal/carers leave, public holiday, etc.,) and our workday is 7.6 hours. Annual leave and public holidays must be entered into the system before the leave takes place. For instance, leave for a public holiday Monday must be entered into the system the Friday beforehand, otherwise you will not be paid. Sick leave must be entered into NAV as soon as you return to work. You can review all your absences using the tab on the left-hand side of the homepage titled ‘Employee Absences.’ If you are unsure about the Afford Central or NAV express process, please speak to your manager for clarification.

Special mentions must go to all of our ADE’s but also, in particular, our Ingleburn ADE, who achieved their first bonus. The collective effort of our Respite Services must also be highlighted, with all five sites having achieved their bonus. Our Accommodation teams did a fantastic job with everyone excelling well above the 70’s and 6 group homes scoring 100 or above. The ACES team, including SLES, Allied Health NSW/ QLD/VIC, HR, Finance, Marketing, Supported Coordination and Training, also shared impressive results. Congratulations to all, and we look forward to seeing what targets will be hit and exceeded in the next quarter.

ANGELA HUMPHRIES
POSITION: AFFORD BOARD DIRECTOR FAVOURITE SONG? Listening to Ed Sheeran live in Chicago with 200k people singing to ‘Photograph.’ FAVOURITE MOVIE? ‘Dead Poets Society’ changed my life and made me fall in love with reading and writing poetry. FAVOURITE HOBBIES? Being a soccer Mum. FAVOURITE FOODS? Seafood. WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION? My Dad. He is my hero, best friend, mentor and the greatest man I have ever known. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM HOLIDAY DESTINATION? Cuba. IF YOU HAD THE POWER WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE WORLD? I would remove the stigma and negativity surrounding mental health illness. I think the world would be a better place if we saw all illness the same way and treated all people with the same compassion.
WHAT IS THE NICEST THING SOMEONE HAS EVER DONE FOR YOU? I was in hospital after having back surgery and it was birthday. 20 of my closest friends surprised me with a pizza party in the hospital garden and all the kids had races in my wheelchair. I felt so special and loved. IF YOU HAD TO TEACH SOMETHING WHAT WOULD YOU TEACH? Auslan - so every deaf person could communicate freely with everyone in society. WHAT WAS YOUR LAST JOB OR BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT? Being appointed to the Board of Directors for Afford remains the greatest thing that I have done. Being able to work alongside other directors to ensure that the long-term future of the organisation remains robust and be in a position to help the people in Australia who need our services.
