In This Issue

Luxurious draping, chandeliers & feather boas - Welcome to the Afford Great Gatsby Event of the year! Our annual Afford Staff Awards Gala Ball was a night of recognition and celebration for our outstanding Affordians! Despite the challenges due to event restrictions this year, our talented events team were able to host an event that included all our states in one room, both virtually and in person.

Trivia Afford Reward Of The Week

Staff members in New South Wales & Queensland were ecstatic to be able to attend live events held at the glamourous Curzon Hall in Marsfield, NSW and the Brisbane Convention Centre, in the heart of South Bank, QLD. Our team in Melbourne attended the event via zoom and staff members from WA & SA attended either the NSW or QLD event of their choice. Afford is known for making things happen and this was no exception with the river flowing virtually through each state via Facebook live, where all staff were invited to watch the awards from the comfort of their home. 400 Affordians watched the live stream as many deserving staff received trophies in recognition for their outstanding work and dedication.

“Love the recognition from Afford to staff. Truly An amazing organisation go Afford.”

Trivia Answer

“Congratulations everyone! Superstars!!” “Amazing broadcast and thank you for giving us the opportunity to watch.” “What an awesome night! Thanks #affordinclusion” The Afford Awards Gala Ball is all about recognising and celebrating the success of our organisation’s top-performing sites and individuals, who have helped Afford soar to the heights it has in recent years. The theme for the event was Great Gatsby and there were feathers, flapper dresses and sequins galore! A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped celebrate such a success. The venue embodied the 1920’s, with feathered table features, a jazz band at the entrance, a champagne tower at the front door and a stunning gold table feature on the stage which had the words “Afford Staff Awards 2020” printed in Gatsby-inspired font.

SPOOKTACULAR FUN AT AFFORD The end of October is a time for witches and werewolves, black cats and cauldrons. This year, Affordians across Australia were getting into the spirit and enjoying some hair-raising Halloween fun. Our supported accommodation and day programs in true Afford style had Spooktacular events at their sites for our clients to enjoy! Afford Jamisontown Day Program’s Halloween celebrations involved a pizza day with a spooky difference. Dressed up as witches, ghouls and even a cameo appearance by Dr Seuss’ Thing 1 and Thing 2, everyone had fun getting into the Halloween theme. Bexley Day Program staff and clients went all out in decorating their site in terrifying form. Tombstones and jack-olanterns set the scene as everyone dressed up in their creepiest costumes. Blacktown Day Program was just as impressive with cobwebs riddled throughout the front garden to scare any trick-or-treaters. Pumpkin heads, bats and ‘enter if you dare’ signs painted by clients truly captured the Halloween mood. Windsor Day Program costumes were spectacular! Everything from Teletubbies through to pumpkin-headed ghouls and creepy clowns were the guests of the site’s spine-chilling Halloween event. At Neptune Supported Accommodation, Brys and Kristian developed their social skills during the Halloween party at their home. For the Butterflies ladies, Halloween was all about spooky decorations to set the mood. At Logan Village home in Queensland, everyone enjoyed dressing up and handing our lollies to eager trick or treaters. Our staff are the best in the sector, always going above and beyond to create engaging on-site activities that offer unique life experiences and expand our client’s knowledge of the world around them. Supporting our clients to celebrate fun and exciting events like this that bring a smile to their faces is what it’s all about!

Staff Matters ANNUAL STAFF GALA AWARDS CONTINUED As staff arrived in their flapper dresses and tuxedos a buzz of excitement and sense of mystery started to build. The surprises started from the moment the event opened with a special gesture for our CEO, Steven Herald – a mosaic portrait of Steve, made with a collage of Afford photos. Staff members across the room shared beautiful words of their experiences and support from Steve and Afford during the hard times this year. The biggest surprise was our very own Afford song written and dedicated to all Afford staff as a thank you. Our annual Staff Awards Gala was a huge success, it was such an excellent opportunity to shake off the isolation blues and enjoy a night out with peers. It’s all about recognising our successes and awarding those for their outstanding contribution to Afford. Undoubtedly, Afford would not be what it is without the work of our wonderful staff!

Reminder! Staff, please be reminded about the importance of wearing masks: • Please note that all New South Wales and Victorian staff need to wear masks while working – inside and outside. Afford masks are available now, if you have any doubts or issues with stock, please discuss with your Team Leader or Manager. Staff, please be reminded about the importance of how to contact IT for support: • For IT support, please email your request to this address: helpdesk@afford.com.au

Staff Matters AFFORDIANS CELEBRATE MELBOURNE CUP Held at the Flemington Racecourse, the Melbourne Cup has always been known as the race that stops a nation. We as Australian’s gather for the event every year. As always, Affordians were in fine form for Melbourne Cup celebrations. It was great to see so many Affordians celebrating another event and helping bring back some life and culture to our hubs. Many sites held a small luncheon and took a gamble in the sweepstakes. Staff members even dressed up for the day in beautiful flowing dresses and fascinators! It’s important that we get together where possible and utilise these events as ‘buzz lunches’ or opportunities to re-connect with our teams. Congratulations to those who bet on the winning horse Twilight Payment!
