FINAL 2018 EDITION

CHRISTMAS, CULTURE AND CELEBRATING 2018! In This Issue We know that each and every one of you works very hard throughout the year. Working hard to deliver exceptional service to thousands of clients each and every day, working hard to support families and carers through the NDIS, working hard to ensure that everything you do reflects all the best things about being part of the Afford community. So it was with greater pleasure that we could get all staff together for the end of year Christmas Party at the Watershed Darling Harbour on 21 December, to say ‘thank you’ for all your hard work.

The Afford Lifestyle Upcoming Events Selfies of The Week

Steve Herald reminded us of just some of the major highlights of the year including our expansion into both Queensland and Victoria and welcoming new staff into the fold; our growth in Group Homes to provide more magical and genuine experiences for residents; our commitment to letting no person be without suitable supports through our mergers with other services , as well as is our award wins, such as the Voice Project’s Challenge Change Awards which reflective of all the reasons why Afford succeeds. Everyone at the Christmas party was hyped and ready to celebrate. There was a great array of food, great views and the teams and tribes ethos shone through in every corner. Over the past year of growth, our teams have become stronger. We look after each other and we care about making sure our teams succeed - and we have! Congratulations to all staff for a fantastic year! Whether you’re on the front line, in the call centre, dealing with logistics, managing finances, or making sure processes and procedures are at their highest level, everyone’s efforts have contributed to a successful year for Afford. HR TEAM KEEPING CHRISTMAS COVERED

Our Human Resources (HR) team was kept busy in November with some amazing figures about new additions to the Afford community, as well as training opportunities for staff. In the month the team facilitated 140 new starters to Afford and of these, 90 were casual process workers who came on board to assist us with our highly successful Woolworths Christmas tree project. The end result of the project was that we met the order of several hundred thousand Christmas trees with deadline. Without the help of the casual process workers, who were breaking down the shapes, packaging them into plastic bags, and then stapling them, we would not have met the deadline.

FAVOURITE FOODS? Cheese and Thai, not together

The HR team also worked on moving 30 casual employees into permanent positions due to strong performance and professional growth of those employees.

IF YOU COULD BE AN ANIMAL WHAT WOULD YOU BE? A giant panda

Overall the team coordinated 1,818 hours of training for staff with the training encompassing two day Mental Health First Aid, two day PART Training, Medication, Manual Handling, Epilepsy/Midazalom, Peg Feeding, Driver Training, First Aid, as well as an Induction/Orientation Day.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM HOLIDAY DESTINATION? I love everywhere I have been, my favourites would be Spain and Istanbul

Well done HR team! Great results!

IF YOU HAD THE POWER WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE WORLD? Let everyone in the world feel some compassion IF YOU HAD TO TEACH SOMETHING WHAT WOULD YOU TEACH? How to forget a night out SOMETHING NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT ME? I can speak very poor Spanish

RAFFLES CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY

Our amazing Raffles team closed the year with an amazing effort, not only reaching their target but exceeding it and raising an outstanding $320,200. These funds will be reinvested into a range of Afford services to provide further supports for people living with disability. Toni Hooper was the diligent telemarketer who sold the winning ticket to the Raffles first prize winner, Julie Black of Trangie in NSW. Ms Black won the choice of either a $20,000 Coles Myer voucher or $20,000 Open Travel or $20,000 cash. The second prize winner, Mark Attard from Penrith in NSW has won a $2,500 Westfield Voucher and the third place winner, Ian Adamson from Bowen Mountain, NSW has won a $1,500 Myer Voucher. The Bonus Draw winner was Andrew Buchanan from Clareville in NSW who has won a $1,000 JB Hi-Fi Voucher. In the new year, the Raffles team plan to extend their reach into Queensland and Victoria, giving our interstate friends the chance to share in a range of prizes, while supporting people living with disability. The next raffle, the Easter Cherrywood Raffle, will be drawn on 4 April 2019. To purchase your ticket, call our Raffles team on 1800 723 353.

THE AFFORD LIFESTYLE Over the past year, we have grown our Group Home portfolio to now provide accommodation support to residents in NSW, QLD and VIC. Through our Group Homes, we provide an experience like no other for residents which we call the ‘Afford Lifestyle’. The Afford Lifestyle is all about us going above and beyond in supporting residents to live independently, on their own terms. Group Homes are the homes of residents. Places to find friends with similar interests where choices are respected, transport links and recreational activities are close at hand, and where support is available to connect with meaningful employment opportunities. Our Group Homes are designed to offer life changing supports for residents for work, home and life, and are places they can feel safe to reach their full potential. Our qualified Lifestyle Assistants are trusted by our residents to provide support to choose furniture they like for their room and home; learn new skills through person-centred programs; stay connected with family and friends; lead healthy, balanced lifestyles; and get out and about in the community - all on their own terms. That’s all part of the Afford Lifestyle. Next time you think about the Afford Lifestyle, think about providing genuine, life changing experiences for our clients. Afford is at the forefront of the industry in Group Homes. We’re leading the industry, because we care.
