It's important you wait until you get an email from Payroll stating they are ready before you lodge your tax return. This will be completed before the 31 July 2019. This change is because many employers are now required to report your pay and super information directly to the ATO each payday. This means you will be able to find all your information in one place when you need it. It’s important to register for MyGov, as you will receive a message to your myGov Inbox when it's tax ready. NDIS TRAINING REMINDER The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has launched a compulsory new training module which has been developed to assist NDIS workers to better support people with disability. This module must be completed by the 30th June, 2019. It will help staff to understand: • What the NDIS is and why we need it • The role of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission • Workers' responsibilities under the NDIS Code of Conduct • Worker’s role in supporting people with disability to achieve the vision of the NDIS. The four part series called 'QUALITY, SAFETY AND YOU - NDIS Worker Orientation Module' includes necessary information to support staff in providing quality services and supports. With the introduction of the NDIS we have an important role to play in helping people explore what they want their lives to look like. Afford have grown ourservices and supports exponentially with the introduction of the NDIS and are focused on maintaining our high standards. All staff must not only adhere to the NDIS principles which are based on the United Nations Conventions Rights of Persons with a Disability but also our own set of standards and principles which make up the Afford Way.

Staff Matters DISNEY DELIGHT AT TRIVIA NIGHT Afford’s Annual Trivia Night was held last Friday at the Jabalna Restaurant in Emu Plains NSW. The theme of this year's event was Disney! The evening is always a fun way to spend time together as colleagues and enjoy some friendly competition, all for a good cause of course, to raise money for Afford. The night was buzzing with energy amidst the Disney themed trivia, raffle, silent auctions and coin toss all contributing to the final fundraising tally. Attendees from Canley Vale, Human Resources, Respite and our ADEs were joined by some Afford Supporters who enjoyed getting involved in the action. A special thanks to our sponsors who attended on the night: • Kookaburra Plumbing • Response Group • Abcoe Some awesome prizes were won on the night with tables going head to head, but Abcoe were too good with their Disney knowledge winning first prize. Canley Vale and the ADE team came a close second and third. As always, the Annual Trivia event was a great night for staff and their families to mingle, share dinner, play some trivia and most importantly have a few laughs together. “Feedback was that the food was great and everyone said they enjoyed Jasmine the Belly Dancer.” – Cristina Alveraz, Events Manager.
Reminder! Staff are reminded about the importance of training • NEW STAFF - Once you receive an offer accepted, you may roster staff so long as they have completed their Elmo Induction (they would have already completed the NDIS module).
• NEW STAFF - Who have not completed their baseline training and cannot be rostered onto shifts where the client requires medication, has epilepsy or manual handling needs unless it is a support shift with a fully trained staff member in a low risk shift. This is really important that you check this when rostering your new staff. • All staff must attend compulsory training within the first month of employment.

Staff Matters Our Allied Health team in Victoria is growing and have started to see some great outcomes for clients. Afford has big things planned in the Allied Health space with existing services set for more expansion and the introduction of Physiotherapy services available in the near future. The team has already grown to include a Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Psychologist. Our therapists offer 1:1 sessions, group sessions, training for staff & families, support in the community and home visits. All the teams have introduced some unique and specialised interventions to get great results with our clients. One example is the successful implementation of communication aids by the Speech and Language Therapist which is seeing amazing results. Andrew our Psychologist has also been a great asset to the team with a niche set of skills for complex clients, who may not be so readily taken on by other psychologists. These skills include: - Providing intensive dynamic assessment in order to truly discover the cause of challenging behaviours
- Successful implementation of positive behaviour support strategies for clients with very complex behaviours - Working with lots of different people and environments to offer a holistic service No client or case is ever too much of a challenge and Andrew takes great pride in helping clients who may have had troubles finding services elsewhere. “Personally what’s been really positive for me is repeat referrals. I have Support Coordinators contacting me directly, families and schools call me for our services. What’s great is every phone call you get starts with ‘We’ve heard of the great work you’ve been doing’” – Andrew Buchanan, Psychologist VIC For our therapists to receive direct phone calls like this it is a huge feat given Afford is still establishing ourselves as an Allied Health provider of choice in our new Melbourne market.
We would like to congratulate the following Affordian on their new appointment: • Rawvell Miraflor - Acting Internal Recruiter, NSW
