TEAM PLAY THE AFFORD WAY!

In This Issue

In the Afford Spirit, Caboolture staff have banded together and formed their own netball team, ‘The Affordians’ to promote a healthy lifestyle, work/life balance and bonding over team goals!

Team Play The Afford Way!

The team came to be when LSA, Joanna Clarke, put out the call in May to see if anyone was interested in playing. From this, there was a great response, with 9 people wanting to sign up for the team.

Most players have never played netball or have played previously but not for a long time – adding to the fun for all. “Each game the team has gotten better and we have continued to work on our teamwork skills which has been seen by our scores.” – Kristie Hickey. This is a great example of the Afford Way, where we are a family and support each other to work hard and play hard!

Staff Matters HAWKS BLIND AFL LAUNCH

Afford are thrilled to have established our partnerships with the Hawthorn Hawks, who share our vision to encourage inclusivity and acceptance. The partnership also encourages healthy lifestyles and opportunities for people living with disability across Victoria. Hawthorn Hawks and Afford proudly launched an exciting new game of AFL Blind; allowing players who are blind, or vision impaired to participate in the game they love. This is an amazing initiative which highlights that every person, of every ability, has the chance to live their dreams and achieve their goals with innovation and the right supports and opportunities. Afford is proud to be supporting this new competition with the Hawks. At the AFL Blind Hawks team launch event, Afford provided players with an overview of the various supports available under the NDIS and emphasised the organisation’s commitment to being a partner for every individual to achieve their goals, both sporting and under the NDIS. The AFL Blind competition has kicked off with a round robin tournament. Cebby Johnson is one of the players who has been a friend of the Hawks since sharing his Cyril Rioli obsession back in 2017. In August last year, Cebby fell through a roof, tragically losing his eyesight – totally and permanently. A promising athlete in his youth, it seemed football was now out of the question. That was until 14-year-old was called into the Hawks’ team meeting by Alastair Clarkson and announced as Hawthorn’s first AFL Blind player. Afford is known for going beyond traditional disability supports to ensure that every individual has the chance to let their talents and abilities soar! Partnering with inclusive organisations, such as the Hawthorn Hawks Football Club, will encourage greater inclusiveness and diversity in sport and the wider community.

AFFORD STAFF STRESS LESS To coincide with National Stress Down Day, Afford Head Office Staff had their monthly massage visit, as a way to unwind, de-stress and relax. Taking time to look after employees’ physical and mental wellbeing has been found to increase productivity in the workplace. As an Employer of Choice, Afford has incorporated regular massages into the work life of all staff and is pleased to provide the Afford Tribe with opportunities to take advantage of this employee health and wellbeing initiative. It’s important to take time for ourselves, and take time to recharge. If we don’t take some time to relax, you are more likely to experience problems such as: • Memory problems • Poor judgement • Inability to concentrate • Depression • Frustration • Feeling overwhelmed • Irritability • Anxiety • Chest Pains • Skin problems • Problems sleeping • Demotivated and much more!! Don’t forget to book in your next massage and stress less!
