Brys is a mature and very cool 27 year old, who has chosen to move into our Neptune Group Home in Bligh Park to live closer to family and friends while still being independent. Now, Brys can live the life he wants, while having support if and when he needs it. Brys definitely exudes 'coolness' with his sleek haircut, great dress sense and a love of having a good time. He enjoys playing PlayStation and looks forward to sharing his interests with his housemates.

The week before Brys moved in, a delivery of new furniture arrived at the Neptune home - ready and waiting for Brys to furnish his new room. Along with his family and Afford staff, Brys has set up his room just how he likes it. It already feels like home! As a warm welcome to the Neptune family, Afford staff and Neptune residents organised a BBQ for Brys and his family. Brys has already showcased his culinary skills; helping out on the BBQ by cooking the sausages, along with his mum. The other Neptune residents, Kieran, Margaret, Christina and Dieter all made Brys feel welcome. The housemates have shared an instant bond and were soon joking and laughing together as if they had been friends for years. "Home isn't a place - it's a feeling," says our CEO, Steven Herald. "Our homes are places that residents can call their own, develop friendships to last a lifetime and enjoy the freedom of living independently." Every resident that joins an Afford group home has choice, respect, privacy and opportunity ensured as part of 'The Afford Lifestyle'. Welcome Home, Brys!

Staff Matters AFFORD VANS TRANSPORTING THE WORLD
Afford love partnering with the community to make things happen. So when Sport NSW, the peak body for sport in New South Wales, approached us to partner in the inclusive sports space, we jumped at the opportunity. Last weekend was one of the first opportunities in our important partnership, where our highly recognisable Afford vans we were called upon to assist with transport for the 2019 IBSA Goalball Youth World Championships. For those who don’t know, Goalball is a Paralympic sport exclusively for athletes with vision impairment, which appears similar to a modified game of soccer. The modified game incorporates bells inside the ball to help orientate players by indicating the direction of the oncoming ball. Staff from our Far West District used the Afford vans to transport athletes to the World Goalball Championships held at Penrith. This involved Afford transporting 16 international Blind and Vision Impaired Goalball teams to the Global Championships, from from 7:30am through to 6pm daily. Afford had the pleasure of hosting teams from Korea, Great Britain, Poland, New Zealand, Brazil, Sweden, Germany and Australia! Afford is truly shining on the global stage.

Staff Matters AFFORD SHINE IN NRL INCLUSION ROUND Afford made a big splash during last week’s NRL Inclusion Round with our logo shining bright on the field’s digital ad boards and making appearances throughout the primetime slot on Channel 9. More importantly, Afford’s Group Home residents also made a special appearance on the field forming the Guard of Honour as the players from the West Tigers and Sea Eagles ran onto the field. One of our residents, Toby, was particularly excited as he is a passionate football fan and barracks for his favourite team, the Wests Tigers. This was his chance to do more than just sit on the sidelines. He was part of the action and making his goals a reality with the support of Afford. When Toby was asked to be part of the Wests Tigers' Guard of Honour for the NRL’s Inclusion Round, to say he was excited is an understatement. When he was asked to help out in the corporate hospitality suites and match day engagements, he was so thrilled, he left the whole day free to prepare. Toby's involvement in the match is part of Afford's partnership with Wests Tigers to promote inclusivity for people of all abilities. The Inclusion Round is held to ensure that people of all abilities and backgrounds feel welcome, included and empowered by the game of rugby league. As part of the inclusion round, 20 Afford participants had the honour of being on the field during warm up and got to watch the game on the sidelines as close to the action as could be. We thank the NRL and West Tigers for their continual support of inclusivity and are proud to be their partner of choice in the disability space.
