Staff Matters August 30, 2019 Issue 220 Week 9
CARING ABOUT OUR STAFF OUR TEAMS & TRIBES WITH NOOSA Teams and tribes was the vibe at the bi-annual Management Conference for Afford leaders from QLD, NSW and VIC, held last week in beautiful Noosa.
In This Issue 1
Teams made their way up to the tropical Sunshine Coast to take part in an inspiring and motivating two days, with key speakers discussing our concepts from the Afford Way. These conferences are key to the Afford Way keeping our staff updated, connected and involved with what is happening within our organisation. They also provide a forum to network and brainstorm new and exciting ideas for our businesses. They are also a fantastic way to get to know our interstate teams and create stronger connections within our organisation.

Teams brainstormed local marketing opportunities and what we can do to promote our businesses, which is not something we often have time to do. A highlight of the Conference was the team-building activity held at Hastings Beach in Noosa's main town centre. In their teams, staff excitedly taking off on a scavenger hunt around the town centre. Affordians scattered through the town centre collecting wide brim hats from strangers, taking selfies with dogs, finding secret locations and hunting for local celebrities. Teams then chilled out with an Irish themed night at the Flanagan's Irish Pub, enjoying an exquisite three-course meal and time to network. Staff were encouraged to join in on the Irish theme and Charlie Seu – Team Leader and Sarah Pottage – Occupational Therapist, QLD South, both winning best dressed. These conferences would not be possible without the fantastic work of our Call Centre and Events Manager – Cristina Alvarez. Thank you to all staff who attended, we hope you found the Conference informative. We encourage staff who have any questions following the Conference or even ideas for Afford's future, to contact info@afford.com.au If you have any local marketing ideas for your sites, please email: marketing@afford.com.au Check out the rest of our happy snaps here - http://tiny.cc/affordconference

TEAM AFFORD TAKE ON THE BRIDGE TO BRISBANE
Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is something we are very passionate about at Afford, not only for our clients but our staff too. In fact, one of our employer of choice initiatives is all about fitness and exercising, which is the fitness passport! The fitness passport gives you and your family access to hundreds of gyms across Australia, at a hugely discounted price. But if the gym is not for you, we encourage your teams to find other options to stay healthy. Affordians across the business have become involved in outdoor sports, and when an opportunity to form a team and do the Bridge to Brisbane came up, the Queensland team couldn’t say no! A team of 48 Affordians including clients, staff and families all put their hand up to join Team Afford and got started on their fortnightly training to prepare. Team Afford proudly took part in the 2019 Bridge to Brisbane last weekend, sporting their bright pink Afford branded shirts. This event was truly a family affair, with Daniel Massa’s (Occupational Therapist, QLD North) daughter Nora, the youngest entrant for Team Afford at six months of age! She finished the 5km walk with a huge smile, in a pram-pushed by her dad. Ayla, just six years old, also ran the whole 10kms with her mum, Nicole Liedke - Occupational Therapist, QLD South. A cheer squad left Southport at 5am to set up for the day and to cook a BBQ for everyone when they finished. Setting up under the Afford branded marquee and getting into the spirit, everyone had an opportunity to be involved. Awesome job Queensland Affordians!!
