Afford Employment also knocked the ball out of the park. DES welcomed 35 new participants with caseload numbers being 844, a 4.3% increase! SLES has also been growing, predominately being an ‘end of year’ intake and regular exits due to employment opportunities, the numbers tend to fluctuate. SLES welcomed 26 new clients between 1/7/2019 – 30/06/2020, that’s a total of $475,853 service bookings! There were some excellent outcomes from SLES with the primary goal, ultimately being employment for SLES Trainees. SLES had six clients exit, or transition into mainstream employment and nine clients exited or transitioned to our ADE factories across NSW. Our ADEs have grown and blossomed over the last financial year. Not only has there has been a huge positive culture shift, but they welcomed 32 new clients with a total of $399,322.17 service bookings. I’m in awe of you all. Here’s to an even bigger FY20-21!!!

GET PAID MORE WITH AFFORD!

As an Affordian, we invest in you. We invest our time and money into training you to be the best staff in the sector. Our services and supports are award-winning and that is because of our exceptional team, because of you. As an Employer of Choice, Afford is always looking for ways to reward staff achievements, recognise outstanding staff efforts and celebrate success. We are so proud of the hardworking team that we have and that is the reason we continue to give back with an annual addition to your yearly pay rise. Under the award, the required amount for the pay rise was only 1.7%. Afford has more than doubled this to 3.5%! With so much happening in the world, it’s important that we focus on our frontline staff who continue to provide those essential services during the challenging times of COVID. Afford has immense gratitude for its employees and that is why our surpluses are reinvested into services and supports for clients, as well as extensive training and higher wages for staff. Profit made at Afford goes back to our team and it always will. No one does it like us! We genuinely care, which is why Afford will continue to provide the best pay in the sector for our staff, because we value you. This is another way for Afford to show gratitude for our staff going above and beyond to make us the best disability service provider in Australia. Remember – you will see the wage increase from the first full pay period of July 2020.

Staff Matters AFFORDIAN’S SPECIAL FUR FRIENDS

Stefania Ravaschio works as an LSA at our Logan Village Group Home in Queensland. She has been with Afford going onto a year in August and loves living in laid back Queensland. We know as Affordians that we are all huge animal lovers, with our PAWSOME selfies featuring the smiling faces of our staff and their fur babies every week in our staff newsletter. But Stefania is one lucky Affordian, her pawsome selfies are something else! She recently moved to a rural suburb in Queensland with her husband called Kooralbyn, she noticed pretty quickly that a few kangaroos and wallabies liked to visit and eat the grass on their 4500 square meters property. Though the animals were all cautious and would often jump away if she approached, all but one would always stay! So Stefania named her Graziosa (pretty in Italian), although the little roo doesn’t live with Stefania, she comes inside the house to have a look around and often takes a nibble at the cat food! Graziosa likes to eat capsicums from Stefani’s hand and loves a good belly scratch. Giggles is another unusual fur baby that we don’t often see our staff own. He is a red ringed neck parrot who Stefania adopted from the RSPCA in November 2019. Giggles is very shy and still has behaviour problems, though he is recovering well, Stefania hopes to one day take him to visit some of our residents at the Logan Village Group Home where she works. PAWSOME!!

Reminder! Staff please be reminded about the importance of the following: • It is important to have all of the required information ready when calling in a Red Alert. • Please remember to pay attention to the quality of progress notes. Do not write just “Johnny had a good day today”, you need to include facts about how we supported Johnny today. What activities he joined, did we support him in personal care, administer medication, any behaviours etc. If you have questions or concerns, please speak to your Team Leader.
