The
Maintaining Our Standards
Afford is an award-winning organisation that cares for its clients and staff. We have established a positive profile throughout Australia and it is essential to be aware of our actions and the way we represent ourselves and the Afford brand in the community.
1
We are all responsible for ensuring that Afford’s high service standards and reputation for being the best are upheld at all times. We can do this by making sure we follow all the Afford policies and procedures set in place to create safe environments for all.
2
Safety is everyone’s priority and must be up to date and well aware of our safety policies and procedures. Staff members can access all our policy and procedure documents on the intranet.

Also, all sites have a soft copy of an Operational Manual for quick and easy reference. If you do not have a soft copy of this, Ops Manuals are also available on the intranet. For our clients, we need to make sure we are not complacent and keep to our Afford standards that ensure a safe and fun environment for all. We need to make sure we are using our knowledge of smart work practices and general common sense to uphold our standards. Communication is key and as a large organisation, we rely heavily on communicating new policies and procedures either in print or online. Make sure that you and your teams all regularly keep up with emails, read Staff Matters every week, and communicate regularly within your teams and districts for updates via your regular team meetings and Buzz Nights.

VIBING WITH YOUR TRIBE Every staff member at Afford makes a real difference to the lives of our clients and their families. Our strong and supportive culture under the Afford Way is what drives our success. The work that you do each and every day is a testament to what makes Afford great - it’s our people, our tribe vibe! We have implemented annual staff awards, PACES team incentives, monthly customer service awards, monthly buzz nights and so much more. We have great camaraderie and a supportive work environment that encourages personal and professional development to make sure that we are up-to-date with the latest industry information, standards and procedures while retaining a common sense to problem-solving. Over the past year, our teams and tribes mentality has strengthened. We have worked together through troubles and triumphs to come out as one strong community that works hard and plays hard. At Afford, we cultivate an environment of belonging and value. Our regular staff meetings are great opportunities to share ideas, encourage our team to push harder, do better and achieve more. We work towards the same goal, sing from the same song sheet and drive success together. Our teams are supporting each other more so that if one bird in the flock falls behind, we’re all there to help bring them back into the team. Keep your teams and tribes energised and let’s make 2021 our year to shine!

Staff Matters CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARDS - HOW TO NOMINATE! It’s important when you have a co-worker who shines bright that we take a moment to recognise their efforts. For the staff member you nominate, this could make all the difference in the world to how they perceive themselves in the workplace and may make their entire day. At Afford, we foster a team tribe environment, where we treat our co-workers how we want to be treated. For most of us, we see our co-workers as our Afford family. We spend on average 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime, so it’s safe to say, the people you work with can make a huge impact on your job and quality of life. Customer Service Awards are awarded monthly and emails encouraging staff to send in their nominations are sent throughout the month from HR. It’s so easy to nominate someone for an award using the nomination form, simply complete the sections including the staff members name, site location and reason for nomination. Remember a staff member does not need to work at your site for them to be nominated. For example, if you attended an event or visited another site and had a significant interaction with a staff member who you believe deserves to be recognised for how they assisted you, then don’t hesitate! You do not need permission to nominate a co-worker for an award and you can always speak with your Team Leader or Manager if you are unsure. As a reminder, please see below: Monthly awards • 1st prize - $300 • 2nd prize - $200 • 3rd prize - $100 Annual awards • 1st prize – A once in a lifetime overseas trip or cruise to the value of $5,000! • 2nd prize – An action-packed overseas trip, cruise or romantic getaway to the value of $3,000! • 3rd prize – A fantastic holiday, overseas or local, to the value of $1,500! With January coming to an end soon, now is the time to get in those last-minute nominations! Send your nominations to: mia.thulin@afford.com.au

Staff Matters ACCOMMODATION AND RESPITE CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD WINNER OF THE YEAR – KRYSTAL HECKENBERG
We are so proud of the Affordians that received awards at the recent Staff Awards night. Please join us in congratulating our Accommodation and Respite Customer Service Award Winner of The Year, Krystal Heckenberg. Krystal started with Afford 2 years ago, in December 2018 and since then she has fallen in love with the job. “I love being able to make a difference in our client’s lives by being able to support our clients in reaching their goals in life. I love being able to plan activities, birthdays and special events to assist our clients in enjoying life. To have a great time and laugh and for them to feel connected. I think seeing our clients happy is the greatest part of all,” said Krystal. When she was announced at the Customer Service Award Winner of the Year, she was in shock. “No bloody way,” she said, “I asked our state manager Kym Mafi to come up on stage as I was so nervous and shocked. The next day it kicked in what I had achieved and I couldn’t have done it without all my fellow workmates. I felt so honoured to have been even recognised for this award. A massive thank you to all my fellow workmates and managers. Working together to assist our client in having a life they deserve is what makes this job MAGIC!” Congratulations Krystal!
