A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Board of Afford to welcome Joy Kumar to the role of acting CEO.
The Board is very grateful to Joy for accepting this role temporarily whilst we are recruiting for a permanent CEO. Joy has done a fantastic job in her current COO role, so I know you are all in capable hands. We want to thank every member of the executive team and all Afford staff for continuing to do what you all do so well, putting our clients, their families and carers first—providing the best support and care. Moving forward, it will be “business as usual.” Our jobs are about enriching our client’s lives, so there is no reason for change. Heroes With Ability Gala Day
Afford Supports Inclusive Sports
HEROES WITH ABILITY GALA DAY Afford clients across NSW Day Programs recently attended the highly anticipated Heroes With Ability Gala Day at the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre, located in Carnes Hill.
Clients were put into groups named after their favourite NRL teams and took part in a series of sporting games and obstacle courses. Players started with alternating soccer and basketball games finishing with a challenging course that encouraged participants to use their agility and fine motor skills. It was a fantastic day had by all who attended and it was great to see how the activities encouraged clients to learn new skills and have a go, working towards a final competition where the reigning team won the Afford Shield. Afford is dedicated to supporting inclusiveness and creating opportunities for people of all abilities across Australia. Continuing to partner with Heroes With Ability, we are excited to see this partnership grow and our clients experience unforgettable events just like the gala day.

George Tonna and Marco Quintao founded Heroes With Ability. Living with Cerebral Palsy, George wanted to create opportunities for individuals to feel safe and supported to get involved in sport. Afford’s partnership with Heroes With Abilities is another way in which we go above and beyond traditional service offerings to give individuals opportunities to realise their dreams and meaningfully participate in activities they enjoy.

Affordians enjoyed a day in the sun while chatting about Afford’s services and supports available to locals. Our Adelaide customer care team also facilitated an NDIS Chat by The Sea hosted by Afford and My Plan Manager. Held in the beautiful Henley Square Market overlooking the stunning ocean, it was the perfect afternoon full of networking. Our Queensland customer care team members got involved with some local community events and attended the Narbethong Special School Fun Day. A parent on the P&C at Narbethong Special School reached out to our marketing team to see if there was any interest in holding a stall and donating some swag to give away. Held in Woolloongabba, we were contacted due the facilitator remembering Afford putty she received at an expo a few years ago. Another fun day in the sun for our team members, attendees could browse the many stalls, chat with local community members, take part in barefoot and wheelchair bowls and much more. The event was open to the community and was the perfect opportunity to spread awareness about Afford’s services and supports in Brisbane. Customer Care Manager, Carolyn Johnston also assisted with packing
The Anzac Day public holiday is for QLD, and donating 150 ‘Welcome to Park Ridge Packs’ to Park Ridge Connect ACT, SA, WA & NT. for local community members in the Browns Plains area. Every month, NSW, VIC & TAS do not receieve a public holiday this year.
dozens of volunteers from Park Ridge Connect do a variety of community projects around Logan West and one of those was to hand out Welcome to Park Ridge packs in the new estates. The perfect opportunity to spread awareness about our services in the local area.
