It was a night of celebration, glitz and glamour for close to 700 attendees of the Australian Foundation for Disability (Afford) Gala Ball at Penrith Panthers Marquee on Saturday the 24th of September 2016. The inaugural Afford Gala Ball is the first event of its kind, an opportunity for people with disability to celebrate in a formal setting with family, carers and friends.

With a theme of ‘Over the Rainbow’, the Afford Gala Ball was magical night for Afford clients, clients of other disability services providers, and their families and carers. For many, the Gala Ball is the first formal or black tie event that they have attended and gave them the opportunity to for new life experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. Clients received the royal treatment with, formal attire, and hair and makeup services donated or volunteered through community connections or Afford’s skilful staff. Upon arrival they were given a celebrity welcome, photographed by paparazzi and escorted by our very own Afford Security Crew up the red carpet. A big thank you to the Afford Gala Ball sponsors including Penrith Panthers, Kookaburra Plumbing, Southern Highlands Realty, Ingleburn RSL, Blacktown Workers, Sinclair Hyundai, St Johns Park Bowling Club and Cabramatta Bowling Club, who helped make dreams come true!

Cherrywood Village Carers Celebrate on the Belle On the 10th of September 2016, 24 Carers and 6 staff from Cherrywood Village embarked upon the Nepean Belle for a celebration of wonderful memories and new beginnings for our residents. An evening filled with fine food and great company, everyone reminisced on the journey from Cherrywood Village to the bright new world of independent living. It was a night full of laughter and stories of the future. This new chapter in the residents lives had been managed extremely well by the support of Cherrywood staff, with families feeling secure in the knowledge that Afford’s commitment to their loved ones will continue long into the future. The end of the voyage left families satisfied yet eagerly looking forward to seeing each other again at the Gala Ball. Until then, families were happy to savour their memories of a truly wonderful night on the water. Campbelltown Lifestyle Centre clients Paul, Melissa, Connor, Zac, Caylon & Andrew recently went on a fantastic day of exploration to Thirlmere Train Works Museum. The clients got to jump on board and explore all of the restored trains and learn about the history of the railway. Transported through history clients had a great time exploring the dining carriage, sleeping carriages, red rattler & steam engines. Looks like some of the guys even got to find out what it was like to become a steam engine driver at Thirlmere. A fantastic day had by all aboard the fun train!
