AFFORD Community Participation Programs are always searching for projects to get customers involved in learning new skills and interacting with the community. A large number of participants at Blacktown and Kings Park Day Programs are very excited about the latest AFFORD initiative with the recent launch of the KPB All Naturals product range - a Social Enterprise. Customers at these Day Programs have been eagerly learning how to make the products which include bath salts and candles. The participants are then supported by staff in filling orders, delivering orders and taking payments. It is amazing to see how keen customers are to be involved this project and AFFORD look forward to extending the product lines. $400 worth of product has already been sold and as such all participants have been kept extremely busy keeping up the supply. The products are all 100% natural, are made by the participants at Kings Park and Blacktown, look and smell amazing and would make the perfect gift so please keep this in mind when it comes to your gift giving purchases. Why not get on board the KPB train!

AFFORD Fact The highlight of 1994 was the visit to Cherrywood Village of the State Governor, Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair AC, to re-open the Cherrywood Gardens and Swimming Pool. The Governor also launched an Appeal to raise $180,000 over three years to purchase a Community House for people with high support needs.

Liam Visits Chipping Norton

Pictured: Far left: Frank and Near left: Irene

Recently customers at Chipping Norton Day Program had a visit from a horse named Liam and his owner Jo who lives close by at Warwick Farm. Liam stands about 17 hands high but is a very gentle animal. Customers all enjoyed sharing apples and carrots with Liam that they had prepared earlier in the morning and they all had a turn in feeding, patting and talking to Liam. Everyone had a great time with Liam as you can see from the photos and after he left customers couldn’t stop talking about the horse. They all wanted to know when Liam could come back to visit. The customers are all ecstatic that Liam now makes regular visits to the site.

Grant Buys New Marrickville Printer We recently received $13,200 through Community Building Funding and as a result of this grant, Marrickville Factory were able to purchase a new ink jet printer. This new printer allows our ADE to remain a competitive enterprise that can provide packaging solutions to the commercial marketplace. Customers at the Marrickville ADE are thrilled with the new inkjet printer which will really improve the workflow for the factory. A huge thanks goes to the NSW Government for their ongoing support of AFFORD Marrickville’s Disability Enterprise and also to Rhiannon O’Brien for her excellent work in securing grants such as this for AFFORD. Pictured above: customers at the Marrickville factory with their new inkjet printer.

Penrith Panthers Expo An important part of introducing new clients to the services AFFORD has to offer means AFFORD maintains a presence at many Expos throughout the year. Early this month AFFORD staff attended the 2015 Apprenticeship and Traineeship Expo which was held at Penrith Panthers Exhibition Marquis to talk to many school leavers about our services. Fiona Scott, local Member of Parliament for Lindsay called in to the AFFORD stand at the Expo to have a chat to Angela Wilkinson and the team.
