On Saturday the 11th April, Peter Field and Frank Blazi, AFFORD customers from the Chipping Norton Day Program, went to the football match between Parramatta and Titans at Pirtek Stadium in Parramatta. Both Peter and Frank are passionate about supporting the Eels and this trip was organised by DSW Jenny Hedges, who through her connections organised four free tickets to the game. Frank and Peter were taken to the game by Chipping Norton DSWs Kim Snell and Aman Prasad. Both Peter and Frank had a wonderful afternoon watching their favourite team play. This gave them the opportunity to interact with other Eels supporters and the atmosphere put the guys in high spirits for the whole game. Even though the weather was not the best and the Eels were beaten by the Titans, you can see by the smiles on their faces that they had a great day out smiling and cheering for their team. What a wonderful team effort by all the staff at Chipping Norton Day Program to help their customers achieve their dreams.

On Thursday 28 May, AFFORD Canley Vale opened their new coffee shop. Thanks to grant funding from the Club Grants 2014 program through Cabra Vale Diggers Club, AFFORD were able to purchase coffee machines, fridges and to build a purpose built café section into the Canley Vale site. The opening was attended by over 80 people which included customers from other AFFORD Day Programs, parents and carers, and firemen from the Cabramatta Fire Brigade, who also brought their fire truck to show to the customers. AFFORD staff worked hard in the café making coffees and each order was taken and delivered in record time by Canley Vale customers George and Amanda. AFFORD staff had been up all night baking cakes, cupcakes and even a few gluten free treats for the opening day crowd. The café has been designed to allow people to sit on stools in the café area to enjoy their coffee, tea or fruit juice. The café fits beautifully into the site and will be a real asset in helping AFFORD customers to gain some work experience in hospitality and customer service and perhaps even allow them to progress to open employment within the community.

Big Morning Tea at Condell Park Last week Condell Park Day Program held a Big Morning Tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Over 70 people attended the morning tea and this included customers and staff from six AFFORD Day programs, parents, carers and students and teachers from Caroline Chisholm Special School.

There was a wonderful array of sweet and savoury food prepared by Condell Park customers and staff. The students from Caroline Chisholm really enjoyed the morning and they got to catch up with some old friends, as many of the current Condell Park customers also attended Caroline Chisholm School in previous years. At the end of the morning tea the customers, staff and visitors had managed to raise over $570 to donate to the Cancer Council. Everyone had a great time and they plan to do it all again next year. Well done Condell Park!

Surprise Lunch at Minto Minto Factory had a lovely surprise lunch on Wednesday 20th May. Shafraz (pictured right), one of the hard working employees at Minto has a wonderful mother who decided to cook a lovely chicken curry for all employees to enjoy. Turns out at Minto they have a taste for curry as there were long queues waiting for seconds, thirds and fourth helpings. Employees are still talking about how great the food was and how many drinks were drunk to cool the effects of the curry. On behalf of Management, Staff and Employees from the Minto site we would like to give a big thank you to Mrs Fariyal for her fantastic cooking skills and the kindness she showed by providing an enjoyable lunch for Minto staff.

Chalk and Talk at Penrith Recently some of our clients attended a chalk and talk program run by NADO at Penrith. Over a 10 week period the educational program covered subjects like personal relationships, personal boundaries and stranger danger. The clients also learned about the circle of friendship and who fits into each circle. Three of the clients from Penrith Day Program who attended the program were Drew Fodor, Cameron Parkinson and Robert Van Praag. They were all very excited to receive their graduation certificates and thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the program. At Penrith Day Program many components of the chalk and talk program have now been adopted for use on site with other clients.
