Club Afford Rock Out At Guns N Roses Concert

Angela Murray

Accounts Payable Officer Minchinbury Favourite Song: Get the party started – Pink Favourite Movie: Lion King Favourite Hobbies: Taking my kids to the park. Favourite Foods: All Thai Food

Eight lucky Club Afford members had the rockin’ experience of a lifetime last Saturday night when they attended the first Guns N Roses concert of the band’s tour.

If you could be an animal what would you be: A bird – So I could be free to fly.

Supported by two staff and braving an extremely warm summer’s night, the group were picked up from their homes and gathered as a group to attend the concert at ANZ Stadium where they rocked the night away.

What is your dream holiday destination: Africa – would love to go on a Safari tour.

They were determined that the heat wasn’t going to dampen their spirits, with every attendee grinning from ear to ear as they rocked out to the legendary band!

If you had the power what would you change about the world: Stop people being so nasty to each other.

Cherrywood Renovations Commence

What is the nicest thing someone has ever done for you: Hubby surprised me with flowers. If you had to teach something what would you teach: How to respect – Often people forget something so important. Something no one knows about me: I straighten my hair everyday!

The transformation of the Cherrywood site has started! On the 30 January, all hands were on deck as a team of builders began renovations to the Cherrywood activity block. The fit-out for the shower and change room is the first project to be undertaken and other building projects are well on their way. Decorations and furniture are also in the planning process. We are all looking forward to seeing the site transform into our new Cherrywood Super Site!

Adrian Comes Home Adrian had a spinal cord injury 38 years ago, but has been independent his whole life. In April last he had a set back to his independence and ended up in the Royal North Shore hospital. He developed major pressure sores which required extensive surgery to repair. In August last year, Adrian had received his NDIS Plan and had recovered enough to return home. He looked to three service providers for help and support coordination, but all three dismissed his case. This meant that between September last year and January this year, he was stuck in hospital due to inadequate support and missed spending Christmas and his birthday at home with family. In January, Roseanna Barletta, Afford’s Senior NDIS Planning Specialist, received a call Rosie from NDIS management based on the reputation we have developed in the industry, asking us for help to see if we could offer Adrian Support Coordination. Within two weeks Rosie managed to get staffing, a hoist, a sling, beds and mattresses organised and setup for Adrian. Although it has been a difficult process to convince a fiercely independent Adrian that he requires additional support, the outcome has been a great success with Adrian accepting carers support. Last Monday, all the hard work and determination of the Afford team paid off when Rosie and two support workers finally managed to help Adrian return to his home. Adrian said, “I feel like I have been sent Angels to help me and I appreciate all the hard work and support that Afford have given me”. He is looking forward to having a roof hoist installed in the coming weeks, that the team had approved, which will give Adrian confidence to continue to live independently at home, while still having some support for certain activities.
