Reminder – Drive Safe To Arrive Safe! Afford have provided regular training for staff members in the Drive to Survive Training program to teach awareness and valuable lifesaving skills while on the road. All staff who participated had a great time learning different driving tips and statistics, even getting the chance to put their own driving skills to the test. We will continue to provide regular driver training opportunities throughout the year, as this program has been an overwhelming success. It is important to remember that driver safety and road etiquette is a priority for all Afford Employees and remember if you drive for work in a branded vehicle to keep safety in mind at all times. Keep the following tips in mind to protect yourself, as well as others. Stay Focused & Alert Anytime you’re behind the wheel, it’s important to keep your attention focused on the road. A lapse in attention, whether to adjust the radio or eat a snack, can cause an accident and injure you and other people on the road. Obey Road Rules & Limits Make sure you keep to the speed limit and obey all road laws. If you think you could benefit from more driver training, as an Employer of Choice Afford supports regular driver safety training courses. Stay Off Your Mobile Phone It’s tempting to multi-task when you’re behind the wheel, but mobile phones can cause accidents. Remember to use a Bluetooth hands free device if you want to stay connected in the car. Remember Road Etiquette – You represent Afford when driving a company car. The way that you drive says everything about you and your company. Make a positive statement by following basic road etiquette and avoiding aggressive driving. Driver training is available on Wednesday, 19 April, Wednesday, 19 July, and Wednesday, 18 October 2017. Get in touch if you are interested in participating. Stepping Up At Afford

Our Step Up Program which launched last year has been an amazing success. This Afford development program has provided opportunities for staff across the organisation to step up in various roles with support of HR and other departments across the business. Kara is one of our Afford Champions who has recently celebrated her step up into a new role at Afford. Kara comes from working in a corporate external recruitment agency. Afford was a business she had contacted to offer her recruitment services. After meeting with Maureen Brown (who at the time was only weeks in) she fell in love with Afford. Maureen’s passion about what Afford do and her explanation of all the services we provide blew Kara away. She asked Maureen on the spot to consider her for opportunities within her team if they ever became available. Just under a year later Kara was lucky enough to have her hopes come true and to find herself at Afford in the internal recruitment team. From there she began meeting with some incredible Lifestyle Assistants and welcoming them to the team here at Afford. “I am very grateful that in this short time I’ve been with the company I have been able to utilise our Step Up program. I was considered for and now successful in becoming the Events and Communications Coordinator of AFFORD. I am extremely passionate about this business and have a plan and vision to be here long term. I believe the best way to achieve my vision is to continue my studies to further develop my skills and knowledge. I am thankful to both Maureen Brown and Rhiannon O’Brien for allowing me this opportunity and I look forward to embracing whatever my future may hold at AFFORD.”

Mental Health First Aid Course

Afford offers ongoing free training initiatives to build on and enhance employee skills. Build on your skills and join us for the two day Mental Health First Aid course on 26 and 27 April 2017. This has been very well received previously, and we have received excellent feedback on the trainers that we utilise to deliver the training. This is essential training for any Lifestyle Assistant who is working with clients / residents that have mental health as a disability. Although short notice, we ask that all managers to put forward the names of the lifestyle assistants that they would like to receive this training by no later than COB, Monday 10 April 2017.
