Thinking about death, certainly planning for it, is difficult — and we usually avoid doing so for as long as possible. As a result, we too often find ourselves overwhelmed and unprepared when the inevitable occurs, adding immeasurably to the pain and hardship at an already stressful time.
NASCK, the National Association of Chevra Kadisha, created Shabbos Vayechi, an annual end-of-life preparedness program to encourage responsible end-of-life planning that is consistent with halacha and Jewish tradition.
The Simply Jewish Mourning Checklist, by Rabbi Reuven Epstein, is an excellent resource, a step-by-step guide through the challenging period of loss, grief and mourning.
We are proud to join with The Afikim Foundation in disseminating this excellent work. May it provide the necessary clarity, comfort and closure to Jewish families in their time of need.
