All of Afiya's products feature unrefined African shea butter. Fair Trade pricing is an international standard that ensures those who harvest the shea nut will receive a fair price for their harvest, In Fair Trade cooperatives, slave labor is prohibited and farms are inspected to ensure that Fair Trade standards are being met. We at Afiya are committed not only to providing natural, nourishing products for our customers, but also doing our part to ensure a fair economic system for African women. Most of the shea butter sold in the U.S. is provided at the expense of those who produce it.
While African women gather shea nuts and work nearly 30 hours to produce two pounds of shea butter, some receive less than one dollar for a week work. Fair trade policies in the shea butter industry assure that these women will receive their fair share of the shea butter that is traded and
will be fairly compensated for their work. Afiya has recently adopted a fair trade shea butter policy. We hope that this policy will support efforts to rebuild the African economy and ensure that African working women receive the fair compensation that they deserve for their work.

How Afiya Stays Competitive
*These price changes are effective on June 12, 2010.
Afiya's high quality bath and body products compare extremely favorably among a sea of fierce competitors. Our products are very reasonably priced and affordable to everyone. Although they are of exceptional quality, Afiya products are less expensive than most other all natural bath and body products.
A 4 oz jar of Afiya's Body Butter costs *$9, while the Body Shop's Shea Body Butter is $20 for 6.9oz. Bath and Body Works sells 3.5 oz of Shea Butter Balm for $17.50. Afiya products contain absolutely no parabens. It has not been proven conclusively, but recent clinical studies have linked parabens in cosmetics to breast cancer. Afiya's all natural products made
with certified organic ingredients and offered at inexpensive prices enables us to remain competitive within the larger market of bath and body products. We are committed to continuing to provide our customers with exceptional at quality products, affordable prices.
We ve been busy! Over the past few months the Afiya brand had gone from items traded among friends to a product that is gaining notoriety five states. Amazing, right? During the month of April, we were asked to be venders at two events on the campus of Temple th University. On April 9 th and 10 , Afiya was a vendor at the 21st Annual AYA Spring Conference for African American
Afiya Co Founders – Ashley Robertson and Jerilyn Johnson at Temple University’s Black Youth in the Age of Obama Conference.
Studies Graduate Students held on the campus of Temple University. This year's theme was "The Future Role of Black Studies in the Diaspora." The next event was The Center for African American Youth and Public Policy and The Philadelphia Community Institute of Africana Studies presents “The Black Youth in the Age of Obama” conference. The
purpose of this conference is to present a comprehensive direction for a network by African-American youth. Such a network is envisioned to be based on direct action, helping to facilitate a movement for social change in the 21st century. Needless to say we had a great time introducing our product to conference goers and networking.
