Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library

Biblical Texts

Editors: Donald W. Parry and Andrew C. Skinner In consultation with: Emanuel Tov and Eugene Ulrich Quality control: Ariel Tov

The Dead Sea Scrolls represents perhaps the most significant historical manuscript discovery in recent history. Brill’s Electronic Library offers a unique opportunity to study state of the art photographs of these ancient scripts, and understand their meaning using the translations of text and interpretations for missing fragments, all accessible using Brill’s simple navigation system. For the first time, the texts and images of all the Dead Sea Scrolls are available online.

Brill is offering the complete collection in two online products that can be bought separately: Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library Biblical Texts (ed. Donald W. Parry and Andrew C. Skinner, 2015) and, from June 2016, Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library Non-Biblical Texts (ed. Emanuel Tov, 2016). Used side by side, these databases will offer the user access to all the Dead Sea Scrolls texts.

This reference work is an indispensable tool for all biblical scholars and graduate students, theologians, Bible translators, those interested in the history and development of the Bible, the Second Temple period and the origins of Christianity, and seminary and research libraries.

Brill is proud to offer a complete collection of the Dead Sea Scrolls Biblical Texts, on an unrivalled online platform. Nowhere else can you find such comprehensive content with such ease of access.

For the first time all the biblical texts are accessible in one place; search through high resolution photographs of the ancient fragments, study the texts derived from the fragments in Masoretic order (Bible books), or utilize English translations and full transcriptions of the Hebrew Scripture, mainly reproducing the editions from the prestigious Discoveries in the Judaean Desert Series, often updated. Studying these texts, around 200 in total, has never been easier using Brill’s sophisticated ‘Auxiliary Aids’ for searching through the collection.

This online platform is based on The Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library CDROM, published by Brill and Brigham Young University, 1999.

Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online

Edited by: David G. Hunter, University of Kentucky, Paul J.J. van Geest, Tilburg University, and Bert Jan Lietaert Peerbolte, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

The Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity (BEEC) focuses on the history of early Christianity, covering texts, authors, and ideas. The BEEC aims both to provide a critical review of the methods used in Early Christian Studies and also to update the history of scholarship. The BEEC addresses a range of traditions, including iconographic, martyrological, ecclesiastical, and Christological traditions, as well as cultic phenomena, such as the veneration of saints. The history of the transmission of texts and the attention to recent scholarship will play an important role. The BEEC focuses on early Christianity from a historical perspective in order to uncover the lasting legacy of the authors and texts until the present day. Its content is intended to bridge the gap between the fields of New Testament studies and patristics, covering the whole period of early Christianity up to 600 CE. Currently only 330 articles are available.

The encyclopedia will consist of about 1300 articles. Every year about 300 articles will be added until planned competion in 2022. Once the online version is completed the encyclopedia will become available in print in 6 volumes.

Available in Print & Online History of Global Christianity

Editors: Jens Holger Schjørring, Norman A. Hjelm and Kevin Ward

The online edition of this product gives access to both History of Global Christianity and Geschichte des globalen Christentums Online.

History of Global Christianity deals with the history of Christianity and its global development over the past five centuries. Going above and beyond the subject of church history, it deals with the cultural role of Christianity in its widest sense: from the many interactions of Christianity within society, politics, economics, philosophy and the arts, to the myriad of ventures that form civilizations, nations, and communities. How did Christianity involve itself in these overarching structures of human life?

The reference work aims to trace the history of the global shift experienced by Christianity between the sixteenth century and the present day. Starting as a localized religion in Europe and Russia with small outposts in other parts of the world, that shift proceeded via missionary efforts that were accompanied by economic forces, movements of conquest, and trends of migration in its evolution toward the current stage: its demographic centers no longer only in the Northern Hemisphere, but most assuredly in the South as well.
