Plastic Packaging Namibia has introduced a work scheme that has created many jobs within several African countries, as well as keeping employees in those jobs with training programmes and staff incentives. “We employ local staff and then train them,” said Venter, who oversees the operation, including the packaging factory itself in the Southern Industrial area of Windhoek. “I think it makes it more difficult to start off with, but eventually you gain the trust and loyalty of the

With bases across several African countries and a sizeable stake of a mature market, Plastic Packaging Namibia keeps a close nter, MD eye on all its supplier and customer relationships. “There are two very important things that we try to reach with our suppliers,” said Venter. “We try to build a relationship by having trust and loyalty; if there’s a company who are doing well and doing a good job for us, we will not ditch them for the sake of a few dollars – we are loyal to our suppliers and that helps.”

In regards to approaching the customer and the industry, Plastic Packaging keeps its long-term goals at the forefront of current ideas, and don’t sacrifice small gains for the longevity of the company. It is a strategy that the MD believes serves the company well: “We don’t look after just one customer at a time, we see what the industry wants and then we develop what they want as far as we can, then we apply it so we can give it an economy of scale in every instance.” Future Developments
In an industry where research and development are key to long term survival, Plastic Packaging Namibia has been doing all it can to stay ahead of the curve. However as with other aspects of the business, the company takes a considered approach to the development of its wide range of excellent products. “If it’s possible we try to look at a new product and if it’s good enough we will attempt to get commitments from the industry that it is something they want to

see, then we will invest in the product and develop when and as the industry demands – we follow the trends closely and that is how we are able to manage continued success,” said Venter.
