WHAT’S NEW ON THE GROUND? •

We welcomed our first expedition volunteer. Have you checked it out yet? It’s an amazing 2-week adventure and volunteer trip!

The Ministry of Education recently introduced a new curriculum into primary schools which we have had to implement this quarter

The community healthcare unit has had a limited number of healthcare workers. This meant only 10 houses per day could be reached. With the help of our medical volunteers, 30 extra immobile patients were helped per day.

We’ve been giving the old folks at a local old age home physical exercise treatment. We’ve seen a massive improvement in both mobility and mood. It’s always great to see these old folks shifting and grooving!

“One of the weekends spent in Kenya was on safari to the Maasai Mara. This was an awesome experience seeing Africa’s wildlife roaming around. On another weekend, we went on an excursion to the Giraffe Center and Elephant Orphanage. The tour guides were well-informed and answered all of our questions. I was also afforded the chance to encounter a warthog and elephant calf.” Angela Milarch Martin

“I can’t help but thank African Impact enough for helping me fulfil my passion of teaching abroad. Being ‘Teacher Allison’ was an unforgettable role and one I hope to continue to be. The people I’ve met and the memories I have made will forever be a special part of me. Asante sana Africa.” Allison Vaccaro – Teaching volunteer

With the introduction of a new teaching curriculum by the Ministry of Education we have been able to engage the volunteers and set aside prep time to help the local teachers in preparing lesson plans.

The volunteers have helped in improving the teaching methodologies by using different materials in illustrating and demonstrating tasks.

We hosted our first teaching, safari and beach expedition volunteer, Valerie. Her trip began with her volunteering at a local Kenyan school for one week. She then embarked on a week of travel where she saw the very best of the beautiful country. From the Giraffe and Elephant sanctuary, Mamba Village, a safari in Maasai Mara and then finally a beach holiday at Diani Beach.
