is more than a continent. It is more than a collection of countries and states. Africa is an inspiration. Once experienced, it is never forgotten nor ever abandoned.

Whether it is the luxuriance of South Africa’s Cape, Garden Route or Kruger National Park, or the great swathes of the Namib and Kalahari deserts, Africa takes hold of your psyche, your imagination and your heart. Take the wild and wide open spaces of the Serengeti or the Masai Mara, the unknowable jungles and rainforests at its great heart in Rwanda, the wonders of its wildlife whether seen at dawn in the Okavango Delta or at sunset in the South Luangwa National Park, and it will capture your soul. Hear the roar of a lion, the chatter of baboons, the hunting call of a fish eagle, the whoosh of the waves where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean or the laughter of the children in a thousand villages, and Africa will enchant you. Experience it in the infinity of an African morning and recognise its power in the velvet of an African night dancing with a million stars. Come to Africa with us, come to the Africa we love and wish to show you. AFRICA TRAVEL will take you on the journey of a lifetime, and forever you will hold this magical place in your heart.

Weddings and Honeymoons

Let Africa Travel help you plan one of the most important days in your life or organise the most memorable, romantic and idyllic holiday you will ever enjoy. Our experienced travel consultants have arranged weddings, blessings, renewing of vows and honeymoons for couples and their families & friends all over Africa and the Indian Ocean and are happy to lend their expertise to you.

Weddings More and more couples are choosing to marry, or even re-new their vows, abroad in tropical and exotic surroundings, from a deserted island or clifftop at sunset to a picturesque wine estate or atop two magnificent elephants in the African bush. Call one of our wedding co-ordinators to talk through your requirements and everything from the minister, location & flowers to witnesses, the cake and even the dress can be organised, minimising the stresses of the bride & groom to be. We can also look after the travel arrangements of your family and friends, helping them choose where to stay and holiday either before or after the happy event.

8

Honeymoons If there is one holiday that really has to be idyllic, it’s a honeymoon. Whether you choose to remain in the same place that you married or to travel onwards for your honeymoon we can help. We offer a stunning choice of locations, all personalised to create the most important and memorable holiday you will ever take. Upgrades and romantic surprises are the norm, from champagne, flowers and private suites, to a couple’s massage or a sunset cruise for two. Whether you want to stay on a secluded island, take a cultural tour, join a walking safari or enjoy the bustle of a glamorous city location – we know the places and the locations where all of this is possible.

Wedding List In response to requests and enquiries from relatives and friends of the happy couple Africa Travel has developed a flexible wedding gift concept by compiling a list containing elements of the honeymoon that friends and family can purchase or contribute to - a romantic sunset cruise or a hot air balloon ride being examples. Guests enjoy a little insight into your honeymoon, appreciate the convenience of the online wedding gift system and are truly excited about giving an experience instead of an object. The wedding list remains open right up to the wedding day and, after receiving regular updates of the wedding list and returning from a memorable honeymoon, the newly-weds are then sent a final list, making it easy to send out thank-yous.

Giving Back

We at Africa Travel are strong believers in ensuring that those who live in destinations visited by tourists benefit from such visits – whether it be directly through employment in the travel industry, or indirectly via community programmes, outreach projects or educational schemes. Whenever possible we try to feature and recommend those properties and suppliers ‘who give something back’ and who have policies of employing staff and utilizing resources from the local community.

Grootbos Nature Reserve Grootbos has always shown a serious commitment to conservation. However a major threat to this is high local unemployment and a lack of access for local communities to natural resources, which the Reserve has set out to redress and has resulted in many accolades. The Grootbos Foundation works tirelessly in the conservation of the biodiversity of Grootbos and its surrounds plus the development of sustainable nature-based livelihoods through eco tourism, research, management and education projects. One such project is the Green Futures Horticultural and Life Skills College which provides training programmes for local unemployed people as well as transport, meals, uniforms, equipment and a basic wage. Linked to the college is a plant nursery and landscaping business which generates income, and Grootbos’ guests are always encouraged to visit the school, and of course to contribute.

Another project is the Spaces for Sport Project where, with the encouragement and passion of Grootbos, the Gansbaai Communal Sport Centre was opened for the use of the local community and townships. Add to this a Future Trees Project and a number of greening initiatives within local communities and guests can easily see and understand Grootbos’s commitment to its locality, to conservation and eco-tourism. Uthando Uthando South Africa is a non-profit organization and a truly unique Responsible Tourism initiative based in Cape Town. Its mission is to provide a platform and infrastructure to raise funds from individuals, groups and organizations who have an interest in the region. Money generated from organizations such as Africa Travel supports a broad range of local community-based, innovative empowerment projects with substantial and enduring value to the beneficiaries.

In addition Uthando aims to provide tourists with an authentic introduction to the social problems confronting so many South Africans, and the innovative and inspirational ways in which these problems are being handled. The exposure of this programme to overseas visitors facilitates a vital role of ongoing awareness, creation and education, which in turn helps to make a significant difference to the lives of the most destitute and marginalized communities. One of the many projects supported is Nazareth House, an orphanage for children living with HIV/AIDS, with visitors to Cape Town able to share in a truly moving and uplifting experience. Other supported projects include drug rehabilitation, housing and shelter support, human rights development and sustainable economic development.

outh Africa

Whatever the traveller seeks – he can find in South Africa. Vast empty spaces, wilderness, glorious beaches, dramatic scenery and the warmest of welcomes. From the scorched plains of the Kalahari desert to the rich fynbos, and from the great game reserves teeming with lion and elephant, thousands of antelope, the elusive leopard and the endangered wild dog to the biggest night skies filled with millions of stars, South Africa offers abundance. It’s the country where two oceans meet and converge providing a spectacular coastline, much of it ringed with vast golden beaches enjoying the seductive warmth of the Indian Ocean and the great rollers of the Atlantic. It is also the ideal place to see the greatest creatures of the deep during the whale-watching season and is one of the few places on the planet where you can spy penguins on the sands. Add to this the gentleness of the Garden Route, the splendour of the Drakensberg mountains, and the riches of the Kruger National Park, which supports

And then of course there are the sophisticated cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg with their world-class restaurants, cafes and bars and their superb galleries and shops. All of this plus a near perfect climate - even out of season it can be warm and temperate - the friendliest of people and, with just an hour’s time difference, no jet-lag, is it any wonder that the traveller falls in love with South Africa.

A magnificent, magical and mysterious land, Namibia is one of the oldest places on earth and one of the youngest nations, (it gained independence only in 1990.) It is a land of two deserts – the Namib and the Kalahari, searing plains, vast areas of nothingness and an extraordinary coastline where the icy waters of Antarctica meet the searing heat of the African desert. Penguins and wrecks abound here – the remains of ships gone aground and whales which have lost their way give it its name of the Skeleton Coast. Like a different type of ocean, the desert defines Namibia with its constantly changing colours, from the palest silver to the deepest red as the light plays with the shifting sands. Sossusvlei, one of the oldest and driest eco-systems on the planet, also sports the world’s highest sand dunes, and walking to the top is a must for visitors. anzania & Zanzibar The vast plains of Tanzania provide some of the greatest game experiences in Africa with the wildlife there considered by many to be the best anywhere. It is particularly spectacular during the annual migration in which over a million wildebeest and more than 200,000 zebra head south every October and November, returning northwards after the long rains from April to June – an amazing experience to see and hear. This takes place through the Serengeti, the most famous of all East Africa’s safari parks, where the Masai have grazed their cattle for millennia and which they know as Siringitu “the place where the land moves on forever”.

to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in the northeast; the remote Selous Game Reserve; Olduvai Gorge where the fossil remains of the two million year old Nutcracker Man were discovered; the Ngorongoro Crater, an extinct volcanic caldera which provides nature’s own theme park for game; and the silken beaches of the Indian Ocean – and here is a destination that cannot disappoint. Head across to Zanzibar for the spices and souks, deserted beaches and pristine coral reefs, and the bazaars and Arabic architecture of Stone Town for a totally different side to your holiday.

For wide open spaces, great herds of game, and over 350 species of bird it is difficult to beat Tanzania. Add to that the chance

If getting away from it all is what you truly desire, then head for the Seychelles, just over 100 tiny islands scattered across 455 square kilometres of Indian Ocean. They are, as the locals say, a thousand miles from anywhere, the African mainland being that far away while the Indian subcontinent is twice the distance in the other direction. And while they may be a sunworshippers paradise they are also a nature lovers dream come true – with giant turtles, some over 250 years old and giant fruit bats, one of the noisiest eaters on the planet - not to mention the birds.

Created out of five smaller riads, this is a haven of luxury in one of the oldest parts of the city – indeed some its walls are more than 400 years old. Inside all is cool and contemporary with just nine super-comfortable suites and an exquisite roof terrace with glorious views – be there at sunrise, when a

magical light washes over the rooftops, or at sunset, when all is bathed in a golden glow. The ground floor consists of traditionally-proportioned rooms, all opening onto a courtyard - here guests can relax, take tea or dine. It also sports a hammam and pool with a jetstream, and there is also a swimming pool and garden outside the Medina where guests can spend the day.

La Mamounia Marrakech

Not just the most famous hotel in North Africa but one of the most famous in the world, and it has recently been renovated and refurbished – taking three years and costing in excess of £100 million. Of course what this means is that this iconic Moorish/Art Deco palace is mouth-watering in every area. The rooms and suites are a glorious combination of traditional and modern, with carved woodwork, Moroccan tiling, WiFi

and satellite TV. The restaurants are a foodie’s joy; two have Michelin stars and the traditional Le Marocain is now housed in a riad-style building in the garden, whilst there is a stunning spa and state-of-the-art fitness centre which offers yoga, aerobics and pilates. The gardens are a real joy, described as an example of studied confusion with tumbling climbers, exotic roses, fruit trees and a number of olive trees over 100 years old. Former aficionados such as Winston Churchill & Marlene Dietrich would still feel at home here.

Royal Mansour Marrakech

Like no other hotel anywhere in Morocco, if not the world, this exquisite resort is built on three and a half hectares within the walls of the old city of Marrakech. Conceived as an authentic representation of a traditional medina, the hotel has dispensed with rooms and suites and instead offers accommodation in

53 private riads, each with its own courtyard, roof terrace and private pool. The decor showcases the best of traditional Moorish art in silks and stucco, carvings and tiles, and the central area of the hotel houses dining areas as well as lounges, a library and bar. Nestling in the exotic foliage of the gardens is the magnificent spa complete with traditional hammam.
