Dlamini Zuma African Unions Secretary Gen.

Angelina Jolie Celebrity UN Ambassador

Dlamini Zuma AU Sec. Gen. Gradually, the history, statistics, perception and of course, the of women is beginning to get established in Africa. For the very first time, a woman has been elected almost unanimously, to head the African Union - an institution that failed to live up to it’s expectations since it’s creation. Dlamini Zuma of South Africa, is the African Union Secretary General carrying a heavy load on her head. She is heading an organisation that has more challenges than any other one of it’s kind in the world. Well, perhaps one might exclude the Arab League, an Arab regional body with many of it’s member states in crisis. But then, the African Union has more share of the Problems and crisis of the Arabs as many Arab countries are a part of African Union as well. Can a woman - Dlamini Zuma dare to tread where angels fear to tread? This is the question that many are asking and time will tell. Addressing the economic and crisis in Africa, seems to be her priority and headache from all indications as they are the most pressing African problems at the moment. Well, there are indications that where a man fails, a woman can successfully deliver. We saw that in Liberia. But let us wait and see as we write again in the next issue.

Angie is one example of celebrity women in showbiz that have found passion in helping to improve the quality of the poor and less privileged worldwide, especially in the developing and underdeveloped nations. She is one of the examples of women revolution who show example to others on the importance of charitable works. She was at the World Economic Council early 2013 to give more encouragement to richer nations to contribute more resources to aid the less privileged. As an adoptee of 2 African and Asian children, Angie has already proved herself as a true Godly person.

Celebrities prepare for the Felicities presentation at the Somerset House in London

Felicities presentation is one of the most attracting events at the London Fashion Week. The presentation sees a number of high class high quality designers showcasing in a little more spectacular way than the catwalk show in the main show space. The presentation provides the opportunity to have a more cocktail friendly atmosphere with interactions between the media, buyers and exhibitors. It is fair to say that it is a more modernised way of showcasing.

Doing business at the London Fashion Week Exhibition has always been main target of the event. British Fashion Council sponsored exhibitions are all over the place. The BFC sponsored talented upcoming designers who have got something to show for the never saturated fashion market.

With the separation of Mens and Womens London Fashion Week events, in terms of exhibition and catwalk shows, the menswear will now be hosted in June while the Womens will stay as it is in September. The separation started from January when the Menswear came a few weeks before the Womens. It was about the most major change this year by he British Fashion Council. The separation of the 2 was for convenience and to address the heavy load of catwalk shows as well as the exhibition.

London Collections: Men is set to be the strongest showcase of menswear this summer with over 60 designers confirmed to show in London between 16th – 18th June 2013. The line-up of shows and events sees some of menswear’s most prominent international names showing alongside Britain's renowned heritage designers and rising stars. The schedule was announced by Dylan Jones, Chair of London Collections: Men, at an event held at The British Residence of the HM Consul General in New York, celebrating the strength of the British menswear industry.

This season also marks the first season for New York based brand rag & bone and luxury accessories brand, Jimmy Choo to show menswear collections in London. Further new additions to the line-up include Paul Smith who will show a presentation and a cocktail reception by BOSS on Monday 17th June. Alexander McQueen, Oliver Spencer, Jonathan Saunders and Richard Nicoll all return to the schedule to show stand out collections in London, whilst Tom Ford, Nicole Farhi and Christopher Kane will hold private appointments for press and buyers.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will host a celebration of London Collections: Men on Tuesday 18th June, highlighting the history and heritage of the menswear industry in London. For June 2013, the BFC introduce a third show space at Victoria House in addition to the official venues of the Hospital Club and the Old Sorting Office. This move accommodates the growing number of on-schedule designers and provides a flexible space to facilitate the diversity of the menswear shows. This season, The Hospital Club once again forms the central hub for London Collections: Men, providing a growing focus on the exhibitors in Designer Galleries, whilst catwalk shows from designers including J.W. Anderson and Christopher Shannon will take place at The Old Sorting Office.

Alongside the catwalk shows and presentations, events celebrating the British menswear industry will take place, with highlights including the Esquire and Jimmy Choo party; a drinks reception held by Duchamp; a dinner hosted by Jonathan Newhouse and Tommy Hilfiger and a party at Ralph Lauren’s RRL store with Port Magazine. One such is Kareena Kapoor, the daughter of Randhir Kapoor recently married to fellow acor, Raj Ali Khan. Her sister, Karisma Kapoor too, who herself is an indian Bollywood star, is becoming a director. Ashwarya Rai, another undisputed Bollywood queen, is a writer, director and producer. She indicated interest in this a few years back when she slowed down from acting due to family commitments.

State of Medical Care Thank you so much for featuring this important cause. As a recording Artist in the public eyes we all have a responsibility to give back and help those in need.Nigeria on my mind.

Accident site by vehicle type. INJURY PARAMETERS: twelve thousand and forty persons were involved in the accidents with 1,292 (10.7%) immediate fatalities. Eighty thousand three hundred and fifty six (69.4%) persons were injured, 1996 (23.9%) of which were seen at the casualty of the four hospitals.

Nigeria also has 2.5 million AIDS orphans, more than any other country in the world. Nigeria’s state healthcare system is one of the worst in the world, and only 20% of those with HIV have access to lifesaving antiretroviral drugs. The rest will develop AIDS and many will die alone, rejected by their families and communities. “On the average, between $20,000 and $40,000 is said to be spent by a traveller on each health trip. Records also show that over $500m is lost annually by Nigeria on account of medical tourism to countries outside Nigeria. Indeed, it has been shown that India earns over $260m from medical tourism from Nigeria alone. It has been projected that this year India will realise between $1bn and $2bn from a medical tourism market worth over $20bn.” My priority is to have MEDICAL MOBILE CLINICS ALL OVER NIGERIA ESPECIALLY ACCESS TO THE VILLAGES. We have become a begging Nation we have natural resources we should be leading and setting the standard. We should have State Of The Art Hospitals all over Nigeria. We should have a health care system like we have here in the UK the NHS. Nobody should die because they cannot afford to be treated because they have no money.

PRE-HOSPITAL CARE

Carol Jiani Writes

One hundred and seventy two (8.6%) of the patients were given some form of pre-hospital care by bystanders. Seventeen patients had their wounds irrigated with water, wound coverage by clothing materials was accomplished in 10 patients, and 5 patients had their fractures splinted with wooden bars while 4 patients apiece were given water to drink or food to eat. The rest were brought to the hospital without any form of treatment before arrival at the casualty department of the participating hospitals. TRANSPORTATION

Our people deserve better they are worthy our people are in bondage and a change must come. Without health really we have nothing. WORLD AIDS DAY ........................I campaigned like mad and realized the seriousness how bad things were back home . Everyday our people are messaging ,emailing telling me that they cannot afford to be treated. Simple operations like removing ones appendix if left can lead to death. THIS IS NOT GOOD THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS ARE PEOPLE ARE DYING WE NEED AMBULANCES IN NIGERIA

One hundred and sixty (8.0%) patients were transported to the hospitals in ambulances none of which were manned by trained health workers. Table 2 itemizes how the patients were transported to the hospitals. Doctors, nurses, and other health workers in Nigeria face challenges such as poor pay, lack of facilities, and lack of opportunities to develop professionally. In Nigeria most doctors earn less than the equivalent of £500 a month, which has led to strikes by doctors. Many Nigerian medical students and junior doctors leave the country soon after graduation, largely to developed countries of Europe and North America.

e In Nigeria The Nigerian health care system is poorly developed. No adequate and functional surveillance systems are developed. To achieve success in health care in this modern era, a system well grounded in routine surveillance and medical intelligence as the backbone of the health sector is necessary, besides adequate management couple with strong leadership principles. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS ESPECIALLY IN NIGERIA DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE PHYSICIANS OATH. T SEEMS TO ME THAT THE DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS ESPECIALLY IN NIGERIA DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE PHYSICIANS OATH. The health of my patient will be my first consideration. We need to create a system like the N H S back in Nigeria period too many people dying ................A change must come. Purpose of the Physician's Oath (1948) This oath seems to be a response to the atrocities committed by the physicians in Nazi Germany.[3] Notably, this oath requires the physician to "not use [his or her] medical knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity."[4] This document was adopted by the World Medical Association only three months before the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) which provides for the security of the person.[3]

Upon a physician's retirement, the "Physician's Oath on Retirement" is being proposed "to address the moral, psychological, social, and cultural responsibilities that a physician assumes when voluntarily relinquishing the responsibilities of active medical practice."[5] [edit]The Physician's Oath At the time of being admitted as a member of the medical profession: I solemnly pledge myself to consecrate my life to the service of humanity; I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude which is their due; I will practice my profession with conscience and dignity; The health of my patient will be my first consideration; I will respect the secrets which are confided in me; I will maintain by all the means in my power, the honour and the noble traditions of the medical profession; My colleagues will be my brothers and sisters; I will not permit considerations of religion, nationality, race, gender, politics, socioeconomic standing, or sexual orientation to intervene between my duty and my patient; I will maintain the utmost respect for human life; even under threat, I will not use my medical knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity;

Exercise

Aisha It has always been a problem getting women It has n o t in Africa to engage in one form of been an easy task, getting exercise or the other. Many think that women to exercise for the exercise and sports is to do with elites or sake of healthy living other than for educated women only. Informally educated professional sports. On most occasions, women in many parts of Africa, especially in the women take to exercises after putting on too rural areas, see exercise as unnecessary to much unwanted and unacceptable weight. But healthy living. But exercise remains the definitely not as a means of regular activity cheapest thing to improve health, control with the aim of staying healthy. cholesterol and have a healthy heart.. In Africa, particularly, unless a woman is into some form of sport as a profession, it is never seen as a necessity of life. Although there are those whose day-today activities amount to exercise on daily basis, and such women differ from those who either sit at home, or work, in which situation their work does not warrant enough exercises required for healthy living.

How often do you relax? How often do you get your head and mind off the hassles and ups and downs of life? Certainly there is much more to life than just work, school, business and other commitments that even go to the extent of taking your mind off food. Relaxation, is one of the most important components of healthy and good living. There is mistake in that assertion. Every part of the body requires a relaxation at certain times of the day. Overwork kills. It eats into one’s brain, mind, soul and body other physical body components, which is the reason why taking regular relaxation helps the body support the soul for a youthful, quality and longlasting life. Yoga, simsaga and even prayers, do get one relaxed. It is not only sitting down watching TV, drinking I a pub or just doing some other tuff that get one relaxed. It is far more than that. The mind and soul must attract one’s attention to get the whole of one relaxed. Sitting quietly and getting rid of thoughts for at least 2 hours a day is about what one needs.

The British Textile Industry sees an opportunity here to assist in promoting fashion and business of textile material in aid of the economy. There are exhibition as well as catwalk shows. The spectacular performance at the catwalk shows was beyond imagination. Looking forward to this year’s. One would expect nothing less than perfection.

Africa Cultu &Traditio

Some of the best musical instruments in the world come from Africa. Music of black origin has swept across the globe and can only be played with African instruments whether modified or natural. In Africa today, young musicians have completely destroyed African arts and music. That is to say that the culture is under threat. It might be extinct soon if care is not taken, leaving African with nothing. The amount of culture pollution is just beyond any acceptable proportion.

ure on Above, is a trumpeter (KAKAKI) a traditional Hausa entertainment instrument that requires blowing power to play. It is a culture of one of Africa’s largest ethnic groups, The Hausa. The Hausas are commonly found in northern Nigeria, Niger, Cameroun, Chad, Ghana, Togo and Republic of Benin.

africa

Cry of a Pollute Music, movies and fashion

The continuous defamation, rape and misrepresentation of true African culture, by the young entertainers in different aspects of entertainment such as music, movies and fashion, spells doom for the continent. Africa is in trouble. It risks having all it’s rich historical values carpet-bombed by those who should be protecting it. Africa’s rich and enviable cultures and traditions, spanning across the entire continent, are under threat unless something is done to save the situation. Africans learnt more of the bad and even surpass those they learnt from, and learn a little of the good ones. African music, natural African music, which

Was intact before the advent of colonisation, now becomes second class. Colonisation, more than anything else, dealt a huge blow to African values and the situation keeps getting worse by the day. OUR MAIN TOPIC FOR TODAY IS; “THE POLLUTED AFRICAN FASHION” Once upon a time, the entire African fashion, from the tip of north Africa, down to the bottom of south Africa, one could boast of saying that it is decent. A fashion of decency if you like. But all that has gone with the winds. There is little or nothing left to be proud of as a pure African fashion.

In the last 2 decades, African fashion suffered it’s worst pollution with modern fashion designers coming up with all sorts of alien designs and calling it African. Majority of such designers either live in the west, or in Africa but with the belief that if they do not pollute and corrupt it, they would not get anywhere with it. They see pure African designs as obsolete in nature. They see African fashion of decency as outdated and if they do not add a modern European touch, it would not sell. In most cases, it is only the fabric, rich in colour that says a little abut Africa. This attitude is very much associated with mental colonisation, or even mental slavery if wouldn’t mind that. The funny and sad part of it is the fact that most of the designs are purely indecent even by European standards. African designers go beyond western designers in

ed Culture Promoting nude designs thinking that they are doing something creative, or progressive. Fashion is culture. Loose it loose your culture. But lack of understanding of the importance maintaining and sustaining standards will one day wipe out even the little traces of true African fashion. Majority of African designers in the west do not make it. One of the reasons why they find it difficult to make it, is the fact that they give the west what it already has and the market is already saturated with the same form of designers. There is nothing new or different for people change to, which definitely is pure African designs. There are many people out there in the form of cultural and fashions tourists worldwide who are looking for something different from what they are used to as modern, and that is natural African fashion.

In The Beginning

“No man can know where he is going unless he knows exactly where he has been and exactly how he arrived at his present place” – Maya Angelou

g e B

A lot of women say covering their hair with straight weaves and permanently changing the structure with chemicals is a choice, and they are absolutely right. I couldn't wait to perm my hair at 16, because at school in Nigeria, we were not allowed to use chemicals on our hair. I had now finished secondary school and could do what I liked with my hair. I chose to get rid of the ‘kinks’ , I continued to get rid of them the moment they popped out from my scalp for the next 17 years. Then when I realised why I was making that choice and that choice alone I cut it all off and never used relaxers or weaves again. This was my realisation.

e h T

Somebody said I was ugly and I believed them. They said I was so ugly they never included my image in beauty adverts, they never used my image to depict a beautiful woman, they didn't want me to work with the public, my colour, my features, my hair was ugly, although what they said to me was, "you just don't look the part".

In

Don't get me wrong, they did use my image, it was in adverts, in newspapers and magazines, posters and stamps, and I did work in public places. These pictures will prove it.

There are things that are forgiven but hardly forgotten in life. They are so ugly that their place in history has come to stay forever. There are also traces of such ugly things that are very much around and living with us today.

Editor’s Digest

Editor’s Digest Iat some point, I decided not to bother to say anything for this edition, but then I suddenly changed my mind. From the first to the last page, AfroEuro magazine contains almost everything it requires to entertain our viewers and fans. It does not concentrate on fashion and entertainment only, tourism, culture and many more, have found their places in the magazine. Although there is a plan to split the magazine into 2, with one concentrating on Fashion entertainment and showbiz related, while the other will have deal with culture and tourism, events and write ups. It will also contain more on business and economy. I will also seize this opportunity to say that the June Issue may be my last as editor. Until then, have a blessed viewing.

JLS Splits after 5 5 years might be a long time for the group to be together, but for their fans, of course, it is not about time. Why do young and aspiring groups keep splitting? Well there are indications that they are getting somewhat tired of one another rather than just trying to pursue a solo carrier contrary to what they said. JLS, a group that came to limelight through xfactor some 5 years ago, have already left their mark in the music industry. They have grown to be one of the most successful groups in the UK and even beyond. The group, which was mentored by Louise, had a very lucky escape at qualification stage as it was a hotly contested xfactor then.

How does it Feel to have no One to call you His son and no One to call Daddy It is really one of the saddest things in life for a child to grow up without anyone to call his biological father, and no one to call him/her son /daughter. But it is clearly the culture of “no rule of engagement” to blame. When a culture of marriage is not respected anymore, then all sorts of wrong things will surely happen. Oprah Winfrey says: “I think we are reaching a tipping point and just maybe the time is now. One in three American children grow up without a father…one in three. Consider this – Without a father in his life, a boy is SEVEN times more likely to drop out of school and TWICE as likely to end up in prison. Can you see the connection? The thread that runs through some of the most challenging issues of our time? What’s unquantifiable is the PAIN. If you are a fatherless son, are raising a fatherless son or care about any man who grew up without a father in his life -- I know I am hitting a chord with you. Iyanla Vanzant and I begin the dialogue with an audience of 150 men who grew up without their fathers. It is a two hour special LifeClass.

Iyanla and I will be tweeting and posting LIVE during the airing to stand with all who are moved to connect. Let the healing begin”. Oprah

Janet Jackson as M

Mrs Wassam Wassam & Janet Janet Jackson and her hubby are really enjoying their marriage life to the admiration of most of Janet’s fans and each other’s families. Janet and Wassam got Married about a year ago in a quiet and less extravagant wedding that attracted only their families and very close friends. Janet Jackson, is now a Qatarimerican as she is married to Billionaire Wassam Al Mana from Qatar. Janet is now a proud and practicing Muslim as she converted to the faith a few weeks ago, after undergoing some Islamic education. For her change of faith, Janet did not only convert because she married a Muslim, but it was a long thought idea as her elder brother Jarmaine too has been a Muslim for a long time now and she envies his lifestyle. This marriage is Janet’s third. Her first marriage to fellow singer, James Debarge, was annulled in 1985 which she did at an unexpectedly early age than anyone would have ever imagined. She was too young then. Her second was with a director, dancer and songwriter Rene Elizondo Jr. That marriage ended in 2000. Janet never bothered about hooking up seriously with anyone since then, until now. From all indications, the relationship is here to stay as it was reported that they both love and respect each other.
