Meet Market
Introduction Can a person driven by a bottomless need for love, causing her relationships fail time and again, get up the courage to look inwards, become aware of where this need comes from, realize the disastrous effect it has on her relationships and take the necessary steps to conquer it? Many singles are “dying” to have a relationship to such an extent that they are willing to “fall for” whoever shows interest in them. When one relationship ends they very quickly “fall for” another person, only to be abandoned once again. The problem is that those driven by such a huge need to be loved are not aware at all as to how their need controls them and drives them to behave in ways which are counter-productive to developing and maintaining a healthy and satisfying intimacy. Here is a brief story of one such person, taken from Ira Levin’s book “A Kiss before Dying”: “I met her a couple of weeks after classes began last year. I’d seen her before but I never spoke to her until this particular day…On the night before this day when I spoke with her, I’d been talking with some guys and one of them had said how the quiet girls were the ones who you’re more likely to have a good time with. So when I saw her the next day I remembered what this guy had said. I started a conversation with her. I told her I’d forgotten to take down the assignment and would she give it to me, and she did. I think she knew it was just an excuse to talk, but still she responded so eagerly it surprised me. Well anyways, we went out that Saturday night and we really had a nice time. I don’t mean fooling around or anything. Just a nice time. We went out again next Saturday night and two times the week after that, and then three times until finally, just before we broke up, we were seeing each other almost every night. Once we got to know each other, she was lot of fun. Early November it turned out that the guy was right, what he said about quiet girls. She was a nice girl, (but) it was just that she was love-starved. Not sex. Love. Things went that way for a while. She was really in love. I loved her too, only it wasn’t the same. It was – sympathy love. I felt sorry for her. The middle of December she started to talk about marriage. It was right before Christmas vacation and she wanted me to go to New York with her. Meet her family. I told her no, but she kept bringing it up again and finally there was a showdown. I told her I wasn’t ready to get tied down yet, and she said that plenty of men were engaged and even married by now…There was a scene and it was terrible. She cried and said I’d be sorry and all the things a girl says. Then after a while she changed her tack and said she was wrong; we would wait and go on the way we had been. But I’d been feeling sort of guilty all along, and told her it was all over, and there was more crying and more “I’ll be sorry” and that’s the way it ended. Towards the end of January she was starting to go with another guy…”. (From Ira Levin’s “A Kiss before Dying”). (PAGE 21) :: After5ive.org
“Falling in Love” or Pure Neediness? The Difference Might Determine the Future of the Relationship By: Doron Gil, Ph.D
The Bottomless Need for Love and its Consequences You might wonder: can someone who is “so much in love with another” begin to go out with someone else so quickly after a separation? Doesn’t she need to take the time to heal? What is she running into? What is she escaping from? Is her need for love so great that it drives her to go out with whoever shows the slightest interest in her? What does it all say about her self-esteem? And is it possible for her to eventually get in touch with her bottomless need for love and counter-act her tendency to jump from one partner to another? Would she ever be able to understand where this horrific need comes from, and de-activate the power it exerts over her? Is it possible for her to ever develop a healthy relationship without first working on her bottomless need? What should a person in such a situation do to conquer the need and heal? For those driven by a bottomless need for love – or by any other needs which harm their relationships time and again - the best way to counter-act and conquer the need is: get up the courage to look inwards, become aware of where this need comes from, realize the disastrous effect it has on their relationships and take the necessary steps to conquer it. This might mean being without a relationship for a while and taking the time to work on the issues. Your Personal Story Regardless of what your personal story is, if you have experienced a number of failed relationships and wish to find out what might have stood in your way from developing a successful intimacy, you can do so by developing Self-Awareness: It will enable you to understand what might have hindered your attempts at having a satisfying relationship and in what ways you might have sabotaged yourself and your relationships (due to your needs, fears, or other factors). The time you’ll spend figuring it out is a time well spent. Following your self-exploration you’ll become empowered to develop the relationship you so much desire. After5ive.org :: (PAGE 22)
Men’s Fitness
G
etting yourself to the gym may be the hardest part of any fitness plan, but what’s the point if you’re making huge mistakes while you’re there? Working around a weight room, I see a lot of misguided attempts at exercise. For some reason, guys think that if they throw on a lot of weight and half-ass it around the room for an hour they’re going to get bigger and more cut. The same guys that do that usually end up either seriously discouraged or, even worse, injured.
By Adam Landolfi Here are 5 things that a lot of guys just can’t seem to get right in the gym. 1. Using too much weight. I’ll admit, this may seem obvious, but it’s #1 for a reason. Stacking on more weight than you can handle is just a bad idea for any exercise. Using too much weight can lead to injured muscles and joints, as well as more serious injuries (like dropping a bar on your neck) if you’re not careful. If you’re a beginner in the gym, start low and work your way up. If you’re a seasoned vet, then you should know better. Stay within yourself so that you can live to lift another day.
3. Improperly doing an exercise. Some more advanced exercises (especially Olympic style lifts) can be difficult to execute and require supervision, preferably from a trainer. I’m not talking about those, however, I’m referring to the most basic of exercises.
It’s important to go through your full ROM so your muscles get a complete workout. Otherwise, you’re just cheating yourself (and fooling yourself into thinking you can lift more than you’re really able to).
(PAGE 23) :: After5ive.org
We all want to look good with most of us) so we bust our asse the gym to try to get a shredded tely, by only doing crunches you’ yourself to what you can achiev
4. Not doing legs. Ever.
It cracks me up when I see guys come into my gym with well-built upper bodies and toothpicks for legs. Not only does it look funny (it really, really does look funny) but it’s also keeping guys like this from reaching their full potential.
2. Not moving through a full range of motion. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about what constitutes a full range of motion. Let me clear it up with an example: while doing bench press, full range of motion is from when you’re elbows are fully extended (but not locked) to touching your chest.

Your legs are home to the largest muscles in your body, as such they produce the most testosterone and have the ability to spike your metabolism, but that’s only if you work them out. Does bloodtype determine personality? By Ruth Evans
Are you A, B, O or AB? It is a widespread belief in Japan that character is linked to blood type. What’s behind this conventional wisdom?
FAR OUT!
Blood is one thing that unites the entire human race, but most of us don’t think about our blood group much, unless we need a transfusion. In Japan, however, blood type has big implications for life, work and love. Here, a person’s blood type is popularly believed to determine temperament and personality. “What’s your blood type?” is often a key question in everything from matchmaking to job applications. According to popular belief in Japan, type As are sensitive perfectionists and good team players, but over-anxious. Type Os are curious and generous but stubborn. ABs are arty but mysterious and unpredictable, and type Bs are cheerful but eccentric, individualistic and selfish. About 40% of the Japanese population is type A and 30% are type O, whilst only 20% are type B, with AB accounting for the remaining 10%. Four books describing the different blood groups characteristics became a huge publishing sensation, selling more than five million copies. Morning television shows, newspapers and magazines often publish blood type horoscopes and discuss relationship compatibility. Many dating agencies cater to blood types, and popular anime (animations), manga (comics) and video games often mention a character’s blood type. A whole industry of customized products has also sprung up, with soft drinks, chewing gum, bath salts and even condoms catering for different blood groups on sale. (PAGE 25) :: After5ive.org
Humans Smell Fear, and It’s Contagious By Tia Ghose
Humans can smell fear and disgust, and the emotions are contagious, according to a new study. The findings, published Nov. 5 in the journal Psychological Science, suggest that humans communicate via smell just like other animals. “These findings are contrary to the commonly accepted assumption that human communication runs exclusively via language or visual channels,” write Gün Semin and colleagues from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Most animals communicate using smell, but because humans lack the same odor-sensing organs, scientists thought we had long ago lost our ability to smell fear or other emotions. To find out, the team collected sweat from under the armpits of 10 men while they watched either frightening scenes from the horror movie “The Shining” or repulsive clips of MTV’s “Jackass.” Next, the researchers asked 36 women to take a visual test while they unknowingly inhaled the scent of men’s sweat. When women sniffed “fear sweat,” they opened their eyes wide in a scared expression, while those smelling sweat from disgusted men scrunched their faces into a repulsed grimace. (The team chose men as the sweat donors and women as the receivers because past research suggests women are more sensitive to men’s scent than vice versa.) The findings suggest that humans can communicate at least some emotions by smell, which could prove useful in crowded places, the authors suggest. “Our research suggests that emotional chemo-signals can be potential contributors to emotional contagion in situations involving dense crowds,” the authors write in the study. that relies heavily on the use of electronic equipment and a specific tempo range. Low cost technology has allowed DJ/producers to build brands without help from major labels. Electronic dance music has emerged from the underground scene to become a worldwide phenomenon.
IS TRANCE DEAD? RELAX, RELAX WE’RE JUST ASKING A QUESTION! By: Brandon Marquez
Trance is arguably one of the most popular and enduring genres of electronic dance music in the world. Its most popular DJs (Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Tiesto) consistently top global DJ rankings. However, the Trance scene in the United States is nearcomatose. How did that happen?
So perhaps Trance may be a joke to some, but to others it is still the embodiment of pure dance music. Its obvious build-ups, huge breakdowns and serotoninlaced synths are cheesy to many, but for years people have slated trance, made fun of its glow-stickwielding, furry leg warmer-wearing fans and dismissed its faithful followers as kids who wouldn’t know decent dance music if they put their heads in a bass bin. And yet, Trance’s enduring popularity continues to grow. And grow. Trance music offers club-goers and music aficionados an alternative to the techno and house music of the late 20th century. Since the beginning of the 21st century, trance music has captured audiences on a global basis. Record labels, clubs and radio outlets around the world specialize in this genre of music. Electronic dance music was once an underground genre, but its highenergy rhythms and thundering
bass-lines have now exploded into the mainstream. Its success has made global superstars of DJs who began mixing beats in their bedrooms, and generated revenues that defy the current music industry downturn. Acts like David Guetta, Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia or Deadmau5 are now household names, adored by millions, and their homegrown success has made the major labels sit up, take notice and even adopt radical new business models. So is Trance music dead? No, it is simply evolving, taking elements from trance and infusing it into house music. Even some dubstep takes cues from trance thus, giving the tracks a more melodic feel. All this roots from the blending of genres we all have been hearing about. Overall, delivering stunning melodies, harmonies, textures and emotions.....it could theoretically have a renaissance and will continue to evolve. After5ive.org :: (PAGE 28)

EDM
AfteRHours With Electronic Dance Music (EDM) having its own unique culture and arguably being the fastest growing genre in music today, fans crave to be informed of what is happening in the EDM scene. After5ive Magazine teamed up with edm afterhours to get the inside scoop .Take a look at what these two dynamic duo’s had to say! Over the last year, Joey aka Dj “Joey Illness” and Jr. Jurado have become powerful forces on the local “EDM” Electric Music Scene, finding their own lucrative niches with sounds slighted by various music lovers. Yet whether the goals are to become permanent fixtures here in their own rights or to create valuable entities to abroad, edm afterhours definitely caught our attention.
“ EDM provides a social gathering of many races and cultures that have come together in a celebration of electronic music and its sub-genres, uniting everyone as a whole. Peace Love, Unity & Respect.

ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC ALL NIGHT!
Q&A: What inspires you to keep going and how do you keep yourself motivated? Dj “Joey Illness”: My inspiration to keep pushing forward is my own love for the music and the opportunities I have gained within my time as a DJ. Getting Sponsored by JoJo Electro & my move to Vegas has opened up an even bigger door and has me motivated to keep my head held high.
How would you describe your style? Jr. Jurado: Im a very cool, blunt and humble guy... I like being different.. like no other being. I’m the illegitimate love-child of Strategy and Creativity.
When did you first discover your creative talents?
EDM Afterhours can be best described as a coalition of a partyminded DJ and aspiring talented entrepreneur that believe in giving its fans a little extra spark in the desire for “after hours” debauchery and the best selection in underground “non mainstream” Electronic Dance Music.
Dj “Joey Illness”:The first moments that I can recall, were as a youngster watching the ITF & DMC battles only hoping to one day be able to manipulate music in my own way. DMC competitors like Dj Craze & Bad Boy Boy have a style of turntablism and have applied it to EDM as I have done myself. The moment I graduated High school was the summer I started my first Club gig which than lead me to the be on the list amongst the top local DJs in El Paso.
What does El Paso offer that keeps you here? Jr. Jurado: El Paso is not only home to my family & the city i’ve been raised my whole life in but has also many opportunities for people in diverse areas of work and with the EDM scene booming it’s now definitely a place I would consider being part in if not the rest of my life but for sure a very good amount of time.

DJ ANGEL VALENTIN
Music Feature
DJ REVIEW
f you’ve had even a passing interest in the local music scene, you’ve probably heard the name Angel Valentin thrown around in conjunction with bass, dubstep, house, techno, breaks, and many other genres. When he is behind the decks, he lets the crowd dictate what he should play: vibing off of the energy, the mood and the groove, instead of what’s popular on the charts. He’s a party rockin’ DJ whose greatest satisfaction comes from seeing club goers dance their heart away.
EXPLOSIVE!!!
From what started as a mere childhood dream, DJing has developed into a full time career for DJ Angel due to his persistence, hard work, and dedication. The modern essence of profound desire has created a multi-faceted spinster that can spin and mix anything.
1. When did you first discover your creative talents? Trial and error honestly. Growing up I played classical guitar, piano, and the violin. I've done a lot of different things but music; playing, mixing, manipulating have always been the main focus.
Angel prides himself on being able to cater to any theme and any crowd. With this kind of dedication to his craft and desire to better himself as a man and as an artist, it’s clear why he’s earned nods from us at After5ive Magazine. There is no stopping this DJ’s Artistic altruistic mission to share the passion, love and enthusiasm with his fans.
2. How would you describe your style? Super fun party club riot music.
Check out what he had to say on what keeps him pumping and ready to

rock!
3. What gave you that initial push to become a DJ? Realizing I could make a difference in someone’s day or night by mixing tracks and sharing a connection like a satellite with everyone's focus receiving my message. 4. What does El Paso offer that keeps you here? The always growing ever so popular electronic scene. It’s one of the biggest in the Southwest. 5. What is your favorite song to belt out at the bar or in the car for karaoke? Ah dang... Haha Probably Fall Out Boy, Mayday Parade or Panic at the Disco.
All About Woman, Lifestyle, Sport and Activity
6. What kind of equipment do you work with? Personal Preference would be anything from Pioneer Dj. I myself own Pioneer 400 series equipment and Serato Scratch Live because you never know when you might have to adapt last minute. 7. Other local DJs you rate? I don’t know, if I could rate the local talent here in El Paso, they all have something awesome to bring to the table. Some are dope battle djs, other hold it down in the bar and club circuit and the rave/ underground guys. We all hold it down in our own way.
8. How do you decide what you’re going to play every night? Banging my head up against a wall in frustration. Just kidding... it really depends where I'm going to play and what the predicted crowd might be like. You have to try to please the crowd without having to alter your style or the vibe you are trying to project.
9. What is the key ingredient in a track? Breakdown? Style of production? Bass-line? Melody melody melody! If you can’t sing to it (even with no vocals) it's definitely not going to register with anyone. Feeling the music is everything. Every part of the song is a key. 10. One thing you would change about the current local music scene? The endless competition holding us back as a city. We all need to work together to put everyone on the map and make El Paso a thriving event city. After5ive.org :: (PAGE 42)
